  • I am a reader rather than a speaker of French and I agree with you - their songs do indeed reach out to the universal language of poetry. They do a lot for me, a learner of French. I can only guess at their effect on someone who is familiar with the local flavour and language. A purely local variety of French or of any other language can have a universal reach.

  • Apart from the scans of the CD all the photos are from the internet - it took quite a while to find them all, more by luck than by judgement in point of fact.

  • The poetry expressed in Canadian French in the McGarrigle sisters songs is absolutely astounding. I don't know if they convey the same strength in English and I don't know if they just strike a cord with me because the local flavor and the language is familiar to me? But I really feel that ir reaches the universal language or poetry.
