One of my many favorite songs from HURT. I always listen to this song back to back because it makes me think. Its a powerful song and I cant believe many never heard it or heard of the band...
this song is about a girl he loved who married someone else, then she dies, and he doesnt want to beleive it because hell never have the chance to have her love, and realising that will drive him crazy
Love this song, but I'm trying to figure out why he says 'eyes' as 'ees' two out of the four times he sings it...?
Also, the first time I listened to this, I was doing something else at the same time and didn't realise that the song hadn't ended yet, so I put on some Coheed and Cambria and the little music bit at the end blended in so well with my favorite song that I didn't even notice it until suddenly out of my speakers comes this creepy woman's voice and scared the shit out of me! lmao
How is this band not more famous than Justin Bieber? When i heard them a few years ago i was sure they'd become the standard in Rock and Roll yet they seem to have faded into obscurity and every song off of there first 2 albums is genious there 3rd album is not bad.
I had been on a Hurt listening spree, missing my other half who's out of town for a bit, and dozed off. Just slightly. And the end part... "I love you so much" startled me awake.
I hate it and the people who label and relate every single thing to their religion just to make themselves feel better. Love the song, will definitely buy the album.
same here. for both parts. I already have to album! ^^
In this next statement, I'm not saying religion is wrong or anything, but:
"You may never change if you don't think you are wrong."
Many people run into "road blocks" in life from the way they have acted and/or the way they think. Many times they don't know how to change it, because they think they are right.Part of that statement got me to the theory that.People do what they think is good .not based on morals, but in the instant it happens
It's a song about a Mary of magdaline from the perspective of another who knew her, she loved Jesus and killed herself due to the crucifiction of her son. He said unto her..I didn't mean mean any harm and I pray for you my brethren for you do not know what you do..Don't fear, for I bleed for you.
I'm not really sure about this, but this might be right. If the house carpenter is actually supposed to be Jesus, then his lover is dead, right? She's in heaven. Is it just a story about his lover dying and him suffering? I love this song.
Hurt arent even my faveorite band, but it would be pretty insane to believe that they are not the most musically, and lyrically talented musicians to ever release music. such emotion, and deep thought in the music... i know i sound like im sucking them off BIG TIME but i cant describe it any other way.. this album should be rated one of the best of all time across every genre.
This is the most amazing, deep, honest feeling song i have heard in such a very very long time!! I am so engulfed by this song and this is the very first time i have listened to it!!
Awesome song... But i just dont understand y most of the people i know havent heard of this talented band. I mean i showed them to my previous gf and she loved them but everyone else is missing out on some great music. I dont want my fav band failing cuz no one pays attention to em. Its like losing a patent to cancer who never insisted on using a new cure cuz he/she never heard of it. How can something so great go unnoticed?!
@pred140 Man its a diamond in the rough anyone who is loves this music needs to find it themselves. One of the many pitfalls with popular (politically engineered) charts. It has so much more meaning and impact personally if you discover it for yourself.
The "arbitrary" and unconventional song design (e.g. verse|verse|chorus|verse|bridge|chorus|chorus) is what gives that impression.
It takes a good musician to create a song using unique structure and keep it form sounding like a blob. Tool and Hurt are two bands that pull this off beautifully. I can't say either way that Hurt was influenced in such a way by Tool just because this style requires massive amount of originality and doesn't "follow" Tool's style/structure.
I'm pretty sure it's the Celtic thing, 'cause doesn't Nickle Creek have a song about the same folk song ? Or am I mistaken ... I adore J. He's the nicest celebrity I've ever met; he truly loves his fans. : )
every single one of Hurt's songs show true beauty and pashion for their music and fans. Katy Perry maybe whats "popular" now but her songs have no genuine impact on your mind whatsoever except for a catchy tune. Hurt's music leaves it's mark on your mind, your heart and your soul and for that reason Hurt will be far superior to most music.
the first time it's ship, the second time it's shit. I have the book with the lyrics. There are a couple of other small mistakes in the video, but overall it's pretty good.
There is song called house carpenter by a completely different band called nickel creek but the idea and some of the lyrics are similar "I heard your married to a house carpenter , your heart will never be mine"
My interpretation of this song is: In the bible, Jesus was a house carpenter. Christians are told to put there love of god before that of their spouse, and so essentially its him morning the idea of not being first in love.
@LackOfAWittyName completely opposite actually the closest interpretation ive heard ( i cant remember if it was confirmed by J) was that it is about the devil coming to earth for his lover. only to find that she was married to another man (not Jesus). Then she gets on a ship with him and leaves. Its from some Old English poem. Again i will try to figure out where i heard this and find out more.
Hurt is like an Inkblot. Their songs can mean so many things that in all likelihood, whatever you think the song means, tells you something about yourself. If you think a song is about problems with God, maybe you have those same problems. Relationship problems? Missing your child? Hating your parents? Feeling disconnected from society? All there, can all be interpreted differently in different songs. I fuckin love Hurt for that.
lmfao dude u didnt just compare Katie Perry to rock, >.> she is pop nowhere near this type of music, incase you've been misinformed or unupdated on the real world music has change and now their are genre's

nickel creek "house carpenter" im not sure if they were the original writers of the song, but they do a good job. its cool to see the two takes on the song, or idea of it. they have some different lyrics.
@droopee2005 Uhm, this song is clearly about someone he loved. Jesus was supposedly a house carpenter. I read a statement from the band, saying that this song was about someone who was unable to love one of them because she had given herself to God.
@free2breathe Actually I think that the song isn't actually about the Daemon Lover but a reference to it, since The vocalist (I believe) had a lover that died. He's referencing the story because it was as you said the devil that came back for her so his symbolic counterpart would be the house carpenter she leaves in the story. That being said he more or less is saying his lover is in heaven in contrast to the story. The rest of the lyrics also show the person in question was important to him.

If this song is about Jesus they have a screwed up concept of him, I mean do dont get me wrong I love this song, and Hurt kicks ass. But I don't kno i mean this guy is talking about killing him. "I heard your buried wit the house carpenter." I mean that is crazy and if you read the Bible it dose not say he was married. Just my thoughts on the matter.
my only problem but this song is that i think that almost 2 minutes of only the sound of rain fall is a little too much. other than that this is one of my favorite songs
The Rain is what makes the connection between Vol. 1 and Vol.2, this is the final song on Vol. 1, and if you listen to Summers Lost, it starts with rain, and is the first song on Vol. 2.
These albums were made to be listened to together.
That last part has always given me chills. No one ever listenend to it, but when i first heart it i was like mortified its just so beautifully ghastly... its a perfect conclusion. I wish they did something similar in Summers Lost.
Was wondering if you could send me where you found to play this or if you have the music uploaded and could send it to me. I would love to play this on guitar.
Actually, both songs are based off of an old British ballad name The Daemon Lover. Google it, it's quite interesting, and Hurt's version is one of many many by musical artists of various genres. Bob Dylan is one of the more prominent of those artists.
no nickel creek's song isnt the same though they have same name. this song is about jesus. jesus was a carpenter read a bit in the bible he only traveled the last 3 yrs of his life
Well, normally I would see your point, but having come from a guy that takes his name (J.
