TrueUSA you are right that 60% or a bit more of China is poor. The rural people are poor but the city dwellers are increasingly wealthy. China is really two different countries. City urbanities who are getting rich and then "old" China which is farming and poor people.
The cities are what the tourist see, they are what Hollywood shows, they are an illusion of what China is. They are, I agree, very nice but a mere facade of the face of China. Go five miles out of Shanghai, you can do it on Google earth, and you will see infrastructure is nonexistent, the roads are gravel and the conditions are horrible

That is changing, quickly. Chinas big cities are modernizing quickly and they are catching up to America. It's nt quite the "mere facade" you suggest, but I'll concede that most Americans never see the China outside of Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong etc.
Have you heard of STRATFOR, and George Friedman. He wrote a great book called "The next hundred years" and it is pretty reassuring for the US.
Friedman doesn't say so, but I think China may be heading for a revolution in the years to come. I also think that is the reason they have such a large standing army. They really have little navy or AF capabilities, I think its for civil unrest that they want to keep hidden from the world. Hence their utilitarian censoring
China relies more on us then we do on them. They own about 18% of our debt, so lets say they dump their T bills on us tomorrow. Our currency will take an 18% hit, but then we will Tariff or Embargo trade with them and since they sell 60% of their goods to us, they will take an even bigger hit.

Go five miles out of Shanghai, you can do it on Google earth, and you will see infrastructure is nonexistent, the roads are gravel and the conditions are horrible

Have you heard of STRATFOR, and George Friedman. He wrote a great book called "The next hundred years" and it is pretty reassuring for the US.
Friedman doesn't say so, but I think China may be heading for a revolution in the years to come. I also think that is the reason they have such a large standing army. They really have little navy or AF capabilities, I think its for civil unrest that they want to keep hidden from the world. Hence their utilitarian censoring

China relies more on us then we do on them. They own about 18% of our debt, so lets say they dump their T bills on us tomorrow. Our currency will take an 18% hit, but then we will Tariff or Embargo trade with them and since they sell 60% of their goods to us, they will take an even bigger hit.
Of course bad things happened in war, but to a lessor degree then any other war preceding Vietnam. The civi casualty rate in V was 40-45%, WWII was closer to 55%, and most were from the commies

Most were killed by the N Vietnamese. We were so kind to the S vietnamese that when we were leaving, they threw their children on a plane in 75 to get them out before the N broke the peace treaty. The plane crashed with 230+ children aboard and they said, bring another plane, we have plenty more children that we do not want murdered. The north was horrendous

Vietnam was actually supported by most americans, Nixon was elected because they thought he was going to win the war by elevating the fight. Most historians will also tell you that LBJ, the man who declared the war, lost it as well by attempting to tie. Its true, we tied in Korea and that is what LBJ went for in Vietnam, but it is a sure way to lose a war.
The majority of the populous was pro Viet Nam and anti the war protesters.

Vietnam was actually a battle against communism and was part of the Cold War. It was fought because we were being tested by both Russia and China, and it did prevent a communist endochina. The only reason we didn't go back when the Vietcong broke the peace treaty was the proxy was lifted in the Senate, little trivia for you, it was lifted by the late senator K.
