@andy I agree totally with what you have said, and it was John wyer that started his own company J.W automotive engineering that continued with the original mk1, infact like you said he totally redeveloped his original cars and built 3 M1 Mirage gt40's that were more advanced and lighter than the original mk1's, one of the first guys to use carbon fibre infact, after ford bowed out after the mk4 win at Le Mans, with no involvement from ford or America he went on to win in 1968-69 then later we
Yawn! If you are on about the mk3 which the 427 is, production started on the 1st of January 1965, but the first 2 car's were sent to USA in Oct 1964, they were sent unpainted and as rolling chassis's, they were mostly finished at shelby's workshop by the legendary phil Remington ( Mr Fixit ), there was a total of around 300 mk3 cars sent over from UK to shelby to finish at his workshop in 1965-66 including the competition .27 narrow fender versions. Hope this true history helps and not the bia
GT40 is a Lola a car built and designed in the UK, the engine was one from the C.Shelby stable usa......it was meant to be a Lola but Mr Ford needed a sportscar to take on the iconic Ferrari because he wanted full control of Ferrari race department and when Mr Enzo said @** the dumb Yank threw his toys out of the pram and had to beat the Ferrari at Le Man's, which he did due to Ferrari having no Funds and Ford spending whatever it took..bit like Audi during the 1930's nazi era.
And it was Henry Ford the II's idea to stick it back to the Prancing Waste of Money. Ferrari never returned to Le Mans with a LMPT car afterwards, thanks to the efforts of those involved.
Umm, there's this guy called Carroll Shelby, you should read about his involvement. Most of the credit goes to him and Lola for the Ferrari thrashing cars. Oh yeah, I'm British for what it's worth
@sanatatic mr Shelby had no involvement on the mk1, a little on the mk 2 quite a bit on the mk4, mostly by sticking the biggest engine in that was possible, but the most famous le mans victory 68 an 69, he had nothing to do with it/them and neither did ford really, they pulled out of all sportscar racing at the end of the 67 season and washed their hands of the GT40 from there on in
"The agreement with Broadley included a one-year collaboration between Ford and Broadley, and the sale of the two Lola Mk 6 chassis built to Ford. To form the development team, Ford also hired the ex-Aston Martin team manager John Wyer. Ford Motor Co. engineer Roy Lunn was sent to England; he had designed the mid-engined Mustang I concept car powered by a 1.7 liter V4. Despite the small engine of the Mustang I, Lunn was the only Dearborn engineer to have some experience with a mid-engined car.
I could have sworn the mk II's were right hand drive! In which case, why would an American manufacturer (if they did design and manufacture the entire thing) put the controls on the right?? And it has nothing to do with the location of the race, it's in France and they have left hand drive cars there too.
Just curious, was the camera man black? he jumped alot everytime you heard a backfire... didnt know if he was dodging a bullet or something haha would REALLY love to have one hour alone with the GT tho badly! Screw it lets take the jumpy camera man with us. I think he'd love to go 150 sideways with me! lol
Ok I've seen about a thousand different people on here claiming what they say is right about the GT40 and so far no one really is. The fact of the matter is Carrol Shelby was not the chief desiginer of this car, his name is always tacked onto it as it is the Cobra. But this is not a Lotus design either. It is a colaboration between Ford and Lotus who were partners, go look up the Ford Fairlane Lola GT. Ford and Lotus did the design work of this car together. It really was Ford challenging
Ferrari at Le Mans. Ford and Ferrari were supposed to have a merger in the early 60's. Ferrari snubbed Ford and this upset them greatly, so they decided to knock Ferrari off their high pedestal. Shelby's main contribution to the car was the engine swap to a 427 and some aero tweaks. Shelby wanted a hand in what was going on so he took the design and made it his own, like he did the AC ACE (Cobra) So the GT40 is not a British car or an American car, it's a British design with an American engine,
in otherwords a COLABORATION. That's why the majority of the teams were British, it was easier to get a hold of the car there. Hope that clears it up for some people. Before you start making wild conjectures about it do a little research and get a little history on these things. I'm sure everybody has their own story and somone will come in and try and disprove me so whatever. But this information is good.
@AnAngryPossom The Cobra existed before shelby put his hands on it, the Ace, and the Cobra were both seperate cars and both in production at the same time by A.C.
@jackrussell19a I know I was saying that. The Shelby Cobra is A.C.'s design just with Shelby's own touch and a 427 in it. A.C built the Ace in 1953 and debuted it at the London Motor show, where Carol Shelby fist saw it. 8 years later in 1961 Shelby almost exactly cloned the '56 model of the Ace, with a few design changes, and threw a Ford V8 in it. And thus the Shelby Cobra was born.
@AnAngryPossom Lotus had nothing to do with this car whatsoever and Shelby had nothing to do with the MK1, which is the most famous for winning LeMans in 68 an 69 and these cars had been redesigned for the 68 season, Ford motor co. incidently had nothing to do with these cars as they had pulled out from this project at the end of 67 as they had done what they had set out to achieve, even the top half of the engine was British, therefore like the AC Cobra it is a British car
@andyj288 I meant Lola not Lotus. The chasis and body were originally designed by Lola and were supplied with Ford power when Ford purchased the designs from them to fight Ferrari. The cars may not have flown the Ford flag after that but they still had Ford power. And I never said Shelby had anything to do with the Mk1 GT40s. The AC Ace is a British car, the AC Cobra is a myth. It never actually existed. Shelby picked up the design and changed it and added his own flavor.
@AnAngryPossom The AC Cobra is definitely NOT a myth. ALL Cobras were built by AC in England, although Cobras made for the US (which was most of them) were only built to rolling body/chassis stage for Shelby American to finish. Cobras built for the UK/European markets were built entirely by AC with no involvement from Shelby. Shelby certainly instigated the Cobra, but contrary to what many Americans seem to think, he never took an Ace and fitted a V8. AC built the Cobra as a Cobra from day 1.
@t45tube ac-cobra was built as an a/c ace.....shellby asked a/c to build a left hand drive chassis that could take a v8..the birth of the 'cobra'....shellby has sole 'cobra' nameing rights....which means its his name period!...all a/c cobras from 1960 on-wards were american....the 427 badged cars actualy had 428 motors!
@OHNGAI The Cobra was developed from the Ace, but it was not built as an Ace and converted into a Cobra by Shelby. All the original development work to take the V8 was done by AC and the Cobra was built as a new model in its own right with bespoke body and chassis. And while Shelby came up with the Cobra name, be sold the rights to it to Ford in 1965. No Cobras were American. The Cobra is an Anglo-American collaboration - just like the GT40 (apart from the MkIV which was all American).
@t45tube It doesn't matter where the car was built; the AC Ace was hot-rodded like 30s Fords in the 50s. Hot Rodding is quintessentially American. Hot Rods can be built anywhere - and are, but their theme remains quintessentially American. Shelby wasn't a trailblazer with the Ace, he was just doing a 60s version of 50s American hot rodding, but his vision for the Ace made the Cobra an American vision. It is not likely that the Ace would have lived/evolved if it hadn't become an American hot rod.
@t45tube Before anyone suggests that it's not just American to change an engine and make a race car, it's important to understand that ingenuity alone doesn't makes hot-rodding a car a quintessentially American thing to do, it's simply the fact that America has a cultural history of shoehorning it's V8s into lesser-power cars & transforming those cars into competitive racing cars of their era. The Ace survived by becoming part of US hot-rodding culture, envisioned by an American hot-rodder.
@scaryGTM Actually, the concept of shoehorning a bigger engine into a car to make it go faster pre-dates hot-rodding. Several famous race cars had their original engines replaced by massive aero engines back in the 1930s. And the concept of fitting a big American V8 into a lightweight British sports car pre-dates the Cobra by a long way too. Sydney Allard started using Cadillac V8s in his sports cars (most famously the J2) around 1950, and like the Cobra that was aimed mainly at the US market.
@t45tube Like I said, sure it's been done and sure it wasn't great ingenuity BUT it remains a concept popularized by the American hot-rodding era and nothing will remove any of that. I'm talking about a CULTURE of hot-rodding. That culture remains an American culture.
@scaryGTM I see what you're getting at now. I actually made a remark to an American car journalist at a British car show a few years back about American car culture being a history of hot rodding and British car culture being a history of sports cars. I suppose the Cobra sort of brought the two together.
@t45tube I agree; British car specials were custom sports cars... U.S. car specials - modifieds/hot rods. In Ace becoming Cobra, it did indeed become a bit of both but I think it's fair to say that the vision for Ace to become Cobra remained Shelby's - the Cobra took on the specific spirit of American hot rodding through Shelby's specific vision. There was nothing wrong with the Ace as it was, but whether it would've become a V8 hot rod without Shelby/American hot-rodding culture is doubtful.
ha i love how everyone is super pissed that they dont get their claim on the GT. Guess what foriegn assholes you can't get recognition if it has an AMERICAN company name. + American muscle cars are the most fun cars to drive hands down. i drove a Ferrari F430 and a Lotus 300RR probably the least exiting cars in the world compared to the 1970 Boss 429.
i wish the whole "american vs british ford" thing would stop.... ford is, and has been for a long while, a GLOBAL company, like most other manufacturers.... but the UK gets the focus RS, and on that note, the brits piss me off!! lucky bastards..
Talking of AC Cobra, as Jackrussell was, I remember reading that John Willment actually put a V8 in an AC Ace before Shelby put his 10 gallon hat on it, but as yet have found no pics etc. The AC version of the Daytona Cobra (AC 98) was also an interesting car, no money behind it, but ran well at Le Mans for a while.
@fordv8man To FordV8 man- Like your comment about shopping trolleys, but Rolls Royce,Bristol,Aston Martin and Lotus have all designed V8s, to name a few.
hey the local bait dealer said he bought a brand new 289/and his brother the 427 both were under 3500.00.lol,if they only had them cars today .They wrecked both of them, I am driving a factory5 replica, 1965 shelby cobra, man the looks I get
Well the 427 cobra were beating everything else in road races sure the 5.4 would be better but it wasn't available back then. The AC Bristol my have handled ok but it lacked power. Thats why Carrol Shelbl started to put 289ci V8 in them.
That's a GT40 from the 1960s backfiring. That's why it has that "Crazy Sound." It's a straight exhaust, No Cat, shorty racing headers, & the exhaust tailpipe sticks about 10in out & 3ft off the ground near the rear fin....A backfire is excess pressure in the exhaust that builds up and it doesn't release immediately as it should, instead it quickly builds & bursts in pops. Many problems can cause this, like too much power from the engine for the exhaust to handle.
You guy s need to do your homework. The original was an AC Bristol that was built in England that Carrol Shelby drove and he put the 289 V8 into it. Then when the 427 came out Carrol Shelby wanted to use that engine in it. but the frame was to weak. So Carrol had FORD in the USA design and build a frame that would handle the the 427 and this is the AC Cobra and that is a registered name that belongs to Carrol Shelby
A few years back I saw Carrol Shelby once randomly driving his new (at the time) Shelby 'Series 1' Roadster.
He was in the area and I live on a windy and curvy back road. I'm outside by the road and hear a loud exotic sounding car coming around the corner, he slowed to around 20mph and rolls by & waves with a smile as he passed & punches it and off he went.
I didn't believe it, but later that day I found out he was doing a Signing and Mini-Car Show nearby the next day.
The AC Cobra is over rated. It doesn't stick to the road, unlike it's 289 British predecessor, which like most British Cars is light, a tuned high rev smaller engines, good power to weight ratios & most importantly good & nimble handling.
The GIANT 427 nearly doubled the front end weight. If they overhauled suspension, added about 8in to the width of wheelbase, Wide 275 front-325 rear tires, add front and rear spoilers. The added traction would benefit the car in every way.
Still, what he did with the AC Cobra was ahead of it's time, but a little bit of overkill.
Today engines, drivetrains & parts of all sorts are swapped in all major car manufacturer's models.
But, the AC Cobra was meant to be the ultimate roadster (least that's my guess to what Shelby was thinking.) He failed for one reason, he added too much power. The 327ci(5.4l) would have added more power per lb. than the 427, and kept the F/R balance. The AC-Replicas are more practical.
@427Sparky WRONG, the chasis was a beefed up version of the bristol, Ford had nothing to do with the chasis, Carrol Shelby had an input in the design and of course stuck a 427 engine into it, the cobras were made in Britain and then assembled in the States
@andyj288 WRONG the Caroll Shelby wanted to put the 427 engines in them he went to Ford to design a new frame coz the 427 wouldnt fit in the orginal or handle the torque. Also they were all built by hand in LA California at Caroll Shelbys shop
developed and taken to victory by Americans. I have nothing against British cars I build and race those as well but lets give credit where credit is due.
Designed and built in Bromley and Huntingdon in ENGLAND, by ENGLISH engineers. The only american involved was Roy Lunn who in the year and a half of design and engineering spent 4 weeks in the UK.
I suppose you'll be thinking the AC Cobra is american next !!!!!
@jackrussell19a Now lets look at who paid for all the funding and research that developed it. I think you'll see a lot more America with that. So grow up. England is great and all, but they're still in the pocket of the U.S.
@SirWilliamLeys Sure you may have funded a part of it But like a comment has already said... How much of your great American brains went into you're machine? Next you will be telling us that the Bell X1 rocket was 100% American brains and required no Stolen technology from the british??
well you guys can look this dirrection but it hampers our future a great deal .. me i like to think in terms of tesla , riech , von neumann, morley, ect the list is long and destinguised.. Dave.
@KPKonliner replica of what? The GT40 was a British car, then it was sold to Ford later on after a couple of years. So if it wasn't for the British, the GT40 would never have existed.
@jackrussell19a the atomic bomb was developed primarily by german scientists in germany before being smuggled out of the country. If you were asked who developed the first atomic bomb, its doubtful that you'd say germany. BMW X5's were redesigned by BMW of North America and built in South Carolina, yet it is still a German automobile. Save the Yankee hatred, the car is american because of its soul, and what it stands for, not who puts the pieces together.
@wazzupriders Great logic...... The Car was built, designed, paid for, engineered, conceived, and manufactured by the British, then sold to Ford a few years later on when the British no longer wanted it. Just because the Americans bought it, doesn't change it's heritage. It is American owned now, but it is a British car!!!
@jackrussell19a glad you can follow a conversation. you just keep repeating facts that while true are not relevant. Cars are about soul. the cobra and gt40 have the soul of an american car
@wazzupriders i agree the 427/7ltr stainless steel valved engine was in more than a few galaxie 500 and fairlanes too with its own cross boss setup it pulled hard
@jackrussell19a oh yeah ? my father work at le mans track ,have a renault clio wiliams, have 18 000 little cars collection ! and my brother works at WR like engineer so you can close you mouth ! i know more than you about cars ! ,you just don t accept the GT is american ! and just start from a lola GT ! you are english no ?
@jackrussell19a Don't try and take all the credit for this machine or the Cobra. If it weren't for Carol Shelby you wouldn't care or know of either of them.... AN AMERICAN I might add. lol
@xciteful Of course we would know the cars without that fool shelby, because BOTH the GT40 and the Cobra existed for a few years before shelby wanted to put an engine in them. The GT40 was about for 4 or 5 years, and the Cobra was around for nearly 30 years before shely contacted the manufacturers asking permission to use them. So i'm afraid you are VERY wrong. We already knew of them BOTH before Shelby came begging to use them............
@jackrussell19a It's kinda pointless to sit and argue about such things. No matter, it had an AMERICAN ENGINE, AMERICAN DRIVERS (besides Ken Miles and Bruce McClaren) and AMERICAN TIRES. The initial setup was done in England but Roy Lunn had developed a car in 1961 that already had a mid-engine, so Ford was headed in that direction BEFORE going to Lola.
@jackrussell19a You may be overgeneralizing a bit. While the first GT40 MkI was basically all British, the MkII (first one to win Le Mans) was further improved with help by Carrol Shelby, and the MkIV GT40 was completely designed in the US. Long story short, the more americanized the cars got, the more successful they were at racing. Hmm...
Oh really ? Because I cant see it quite like that. Out of the 4 LeMans wins, only 1 was run by an all american team. Which was incidentally USAs first and last win EVER at LeMans. The 2 last years was won by a brittish GT40 team.
And is it really so incredible that next years improvements actually.. improves the car ? Imagine if americans just ONCE could be honest and admit that yes.. Americas biggest icon WASNT a fully american effort. Just like the AC Cobra. Shelby just put his name on it.
@Janusha because the MkIV was all-american in design. Are you going to tell me the racing team also determines the nationality of the car? By that argument the Gulf Porsche 917s must've to some degree British? Don't be a retard.
No just makes the americans sound dumb for constantly waving their fucking flags everywhere claiming everything good is American.. Which it isnt.
Same with the new Ford GT. Built entirely out of exsisting parts from European sportscars. Handling set up by Lotus. Ford just lifted the engine out of a Ford pickup truck for americans to get all patriotic over and sold it as an american product.
@Janusha well it bascially IS an american product since it is sold by us and our name is under it. Yes you did build the main frame, but we put the heart into it "the engine". And this was probably one of the most powerfull engines at the time built, it can even be classed today as a supercar.
Well the new Ford GT is certainly the closest USA ever came to a supercar.
But what do you mean I built it ? I believe most people that built it are dead by now. Im not brittish or a car builder. Nor am I trying to claim ownership to this thing on behalf of britain. Im just saying how it is. And I resent the constant relentless american flagwaving over any topic regardless of actual facts.
@Janusha oh I thought you were british, didnt bother checking because 90% of the time people who defend this are. And I didnt mean you, I meant to say "you guys" as in British in General, but since your not british then nvm.
Also the Corvette ZR1 (650HP SC) is a supercar. It has more power then a Enzo ferrari and can take turns just as good as a Lambo.
ZR1 is certainly quick enough but spends 8 minutes in a factory being welded and spray painted by robots and except its speed is about as exciting as a midrange BMW or Mercedes. Supercars need style and finesse and the Corvette is sadly lacking both.
Then there is the fact that when you sit inside one, it wont let you forget that you are sitting in a GM. Loads of cars are quick. That doesnt automatically qualify for supercar stardom. I think thats where US-supercar attempts get it wrong.
@Janusha ZR1 ecciting to a BMW and Benz? LOL? and you know this how? have you ever been in a zr1? Those things have so much torque and power that the only reason they have 0-60 in 3.2 sec is because the wheels cant get traction from all the power. And its RWD which means it is 30000 Times more fun then any ferrari or lambo, bmw and benz combined. And super cars are not about "wood and style" Corvette has plenty of style, look at its wide body and curves, its modern and classic at the same time.
@Janusha And your telling me a SC 650HP v8(not v10 or v12 like most european super cars) STOCK out of the factory doing 0-60 in 2.9-3.0 sec and pulling over 0.60 G's in turns is not good enough for you? where in that did the US super car go wrong?
All your doing is trying to find out the most horrible things about American cars to make America look bad since for some reason your pissed at us.
And have you ever tried a Ferrari or Lambo ? I have. And there is no point quoting figures to me because I know it all. Like I said, the ZR1 is certainly quick enough but lacks style and refinement.
But lets look at US-supercars. The SSC is a kitcar put together largely by parts out of other cars on a kit-car budget and sold what. 10 cars. Moslers, Saleen S7 are racecars with numberplates that sold 20 cars? And thats the end of the list. There are 50-60 Euro-supercars and 4-5 from elsewhere.
Because while americans are eager to support their own brands. Leap forth fist in the air to wave flags in their honor at any sign of criticism... when its time to step up and actually buy one, they chose a Ferrari instead.
Every single US-supercar attempt has gone down the same road. Vector, Saleen, Mosler, SSC. Fit a huge engine to get all patriotic over into a steel tubular skeleton frame (as used in racecars since the 60s) shout BEST IN THE WOORLD, sell 20 cars and go out of business.
@Janusha And most Americans who buy ferrari's over US supercars are rich idiots who know nothing about cars. 90% of these guys are doctors or company owners who buy the ferrari because of its Name brand. Only small people know what a SSC or ZR1 are. They are just idiots who want to show off what they can buy.
And we put engines the same size as europeans do. Why does a lambo or Vanquish need fucking 6l+ v12's? I dont know about you but those are big engines.
@Janusha I dont need to try out a lambo and ferrari, I KNOW a zr1 is much more fun just by looking a way a ferrari and lamo handle. And I dount you have been in any one, and if you have im 100% you never have gone over 60. Don't use lies in your argument to make you seem more right, no point. And only few SSC's Aero(fastest car in the world made by shelby) is the second fastest selling production car in the world. Next to Buggatti veyron. And Saleen S7 well I dont know too much about it.
The ssc is the second fastest selling production car in the world ? What the fuck are you talking about ? Who tells you these things ? At what point is it allowed to use your own brain and not believing all this shit you read on the net.
@Janusha o my god your an idiot, I did not mean "fastest" as in "sells the most cars by buyer". I mean it is the fastest car in the world that is sold (production). OUT OF THE FACTORY.
Veyron- 255.81 mph
SSC UA-256.14
And funny thing is the SSC is a supercharged v8 small block while the Veyron is a 16W cylnder using 4 turbo's and STILL and is only .01 seconds slower then the veyron in 0-60 and 0-120 time.
I think youll find number of cylinders does as much for speed as number of cupholders. However.. feel free to sprinkle patriotism on that kit-car all you like. Its still going to be rubbish at the end of the day.
"sells the most cars by buyer" Go to school and learn to write. It helps communication.
RIGHT there tells me you don't know anything about how a internal combustion engine works. Cylnders does not do much you think huh? so why doesn't Honda make a 1000HP supercar with a 4 cylnder or v6 with their 2l Engines? Why does the veyron need a 8L 1000HP Quad turbo V16? why don't they use a Civc engine instead? "sells the most cars by buyer" is a legit sentence strucutre, you know what, you ask and go off subject WAY too much in this whole conversation. Your kind of....hmm...annoying.
Dude youre weird. Honda does make a 1000hp 2 litre engine. Its what they use in F1 you silly arse. Honda was an engine supplyer for years after they quit racing themselves.
As for supercars.. Do you think Ferrari, Lambo and the rest DONT produce 1000hp supercars because they are unable to or because its utterly pointless?
Think about it. Does USA have a history for quality vehicles or supercars? Not at all. Still still every single american kid thinks they know better than Euro-cars. Amazing.
Was I talking about Liters? we were talking about cyilnders. I said show me a honda that is under a v6 and a 2l Producing 1000HP+. A typical Formula 1 race engine is a four stroke v8 (8 cyilnders) which is natrually aspirated (meaning no type of turbo, pro, super ect chargers of any kind installed). YOU said cylnders don't matter. So if they don't matter show me a 4 cylnder 1000HP engine that works and can do a quarter mile in 9 sec like most v8-v10 ect engines can.
@Janusha When the fuck did I say Ferraris and lambos dont produce 1000HP? my whole point of the argument is that lambos and ferraris and Buggati's (euro super cars) use v10 v12s and v16 engines to produce power). AND YOU SAID That American only makes their cars fast by big engines. HEY IDIOT euro super cars USE big engines. American super cars use smaller engines. We invented the fastest street legal production car in the world (SSC) And it uses a smaller engine then euro cars.
Oh my... YOU represent the kind of american that makes people think all americans are hate spitting flagwaving bewildered fuckwits. Congratulations on that achievement.
@Janusha O look, the typical "I cant think of anymore to say so Im just going to switch subjects and go for the insults because that way I feel better about myself and not feel like I lost".
I just proved you wrong and with with your stupid child ignorance you just can't accept your wrong with your Bullshit. You obvsiously have some problem with Americans, did one of our B-52's by accident drop a 2000 LBL GBU bomb on your house on a training mission? or are you just a emotional little girl?
@Janusha tell you what so you can have the last comment between us ok? since you want to try to feel like you over dominated me, I will let you finish me off. Please call me a idiot and what ever your anger feels like spitting out.
I think you forgot all Porches and the proper Ferraris, Koenigsegg, Gumpert... none of them uses V10-V16. When I think of super cars, Bugatti is definitely not the one I'm thinking about, or even a Lambo. It's ZR1, 911 GT3, F430 Scuderia, something like that.
Compare USA 6,2l->8,3l to Euro 3,8l->7,3l (Zonda).
I consider Bugatti as a fast car, but it wasn't really made to be driven on the track, thus it's not a super car, _IMO_.
yeah. Shelby. The all american hero that never actually built a car himself. He spent his life fitting blowers to god damn mustangs and for that.. Hes an immortal american hero like Elvis. Immune to criticism.
He laid his holy hand on the AC Cobra and Ford GT40 and instantly.... It became an american car.
They are doing the same today. Hennessey Venomo GT. Its just a tuned Corvette engine put into a Lotus 300RR chassis and sold as an american product. Lies and scam.
@GTplayer77 You clearly know nothing at all about cars. Go do some homework before you bother replying to anything again. AC Cobra, and GT40 are classic and quintessential British cars.
@jackrussell19a dude, you must be the biggest idiot. the GT40 and Cobra are American. You english motherfuckers are just pissed that 2 of the worlds most amazing cars are american and England only has Jaguar and Aston, which were owned by an american car company. The GT40 was raced at Le Mans by the U.S. team, not the british. and The Cobra...or should I say Shelby Cobra was the brainchild of Carroll Shelby. who was an american.
@NIGBEATS You stupid fucktard. The AC Cobra is called the AC Cobra because it is made by AC. The AC Cobra existed long before Mr Shelby decided to put a Ford Engine in it. Try looking on wikipedia, or the AC company site, and tell me then if the AC car company is American you dumb Fuck. & you can read anywhere, the GT40 was designed, engineered, and built by Lotus and Lola in the UK by the British, then Ford bought it later on you fucking twat. Do some research before you spout off.
@NIGBEATS type into google... wiki & GT40... you'll see it was built and designed by the Brits (Lola and Lotus). Then A.C. Cobra & wiki, and you'll read ALL about how AC is an ENGLISH car company. Shelby just stuck a different engine in his version but the AC Cobra is a British car, thats all you stupid fucker!!
@NIGBEATS when Ford failed to buy Ferrari, they said 'they wanted to beat the italians in their own backyard', but they couldn't come up with a car to beat them, so they asked Lotus to build one for them..... Lotus and Lola came up with the GT40, and sold it to Ford. Built and designed by the Britis!!!!! The Yanks couldn't build a car as good as the GT40 or Cobra, never!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for loving these great british cars anyway toy fucking twat!!!!!!
@NIGBEATS So you have a video on your channel on the AC Cobra, and you don't even know the history of the car you fucktard? AC is a British company... the Cobra is a british car, which shelby decided to put a ford engine in. The AC Cobra is the brainchild of the AC car company (not carol shelby as you said in your own words). he just toook a cobra and put a ford engine in it. COBRA = BRITISH CAR!!
@jackrussell19a do you know why Shelby teamed up with AC? It was because they were a bunch of British schmucks who couldn't do anything right and were in danger of going under. Yes they made A cobra before Shelby arrived, the 289, which was shit. Shelby hated Ferrari with a fucking passion because they always placed (usually 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and Shelby wanted to beat them. So Carroll Shelby teamed up with AC and redesigned the 289 cobra to make the 427.
@NIGBEATS So British car manufacturers can't do anything right??? Britain has always lead the way with prestigeous cars. Ask anyone given the choice what they'd prefer... A Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, Jaguar, Range Rover, TVR, Morgan,..... or i suppose you think they'd prefer a Chrysler or maybe a Dodge???
@jackrussell19a ....The 427 Cobra which was indeed owned by a British car company, so on paper it was as British as a Jaguar, BUT it is considered AMERICAN due to who its father was. Now the Cobra, which was a roadster could not compete in the GT class because ,by design, had no roof; Though a hard top was available. So the 427 Cobra raced in the "open cockpit" class which was where the Ferrari GTO raced.
@NIGBEATS Not quite sure who you mean considers it to be American. AC is a British company... just because some Yank twat decided to put a Ford Engine in it , doesn't mean it's an American car. It's British, just as the GT40 is a British car with an American Engine. Ask anyone on the Planet, and they'll tell you the Cobra is British. You Yanks are just jealous, 'cause you can't make a decent car. Shelby isnt the 'father' of the Cobra.... AC is, you fucking mongrel.
@jackrussell19a ...In order to race in the GT class, AC needed a fixed roof coupe. Shelby then designed the Cobra Coupe Daytona. There were a total of 6 made, with the first being custom designed to fit Ken Miles, a Brit engineer and Racing driver. It took so long to make the body that Shelby and AC didn't really have any time to test or fine tune any of the body work but it turns out that that shape of the car was damn near perfect. Then in order to make the other 5, Italian craftsman made em'

AnAngryPossom 1 year ago
Ferrari at Le Mans. Ford and Ferrari were supposed to have a merger in the early 60's. Ferrari snubbed Ford and this upset them greatly, so they decided to knock Ferrari off their high pedestal. Shelby's main contribution to the car was the engine swap to a 427 and some aero tweaks. Shelby wanted a hand in what was going on so he took the design and made it his own, like he did the AC ACE (Cobra) So the GT40 is not a British car or an American car, it's a British design with an American engine,
AnAngryPossom 1 year ago
in otherwords a COLABORATION.
AnAngryPossom 1 year ago
@AnAngryPossom The Cobra existed before shelby put his hands on it, the Ace, and the Cobra were both seperate cars and both in production at the same time by A.C.
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a I know I was saying that. The Shelby Cobra is A.C.'s design just with Shelby's own touch and a 427 in it. A.C built the Ace in 1953 and debuted it at the London Motor show, where Carol Shelby fist saw it. 8 years later in 1961 Shelby almost exactly cloned the '56 model of the Ace, with a few design changes, and threw a Ford V8 in it. And thus the Shelby Cobra was born.
AnAngryPossom 1 year ago
@AnAngryPossom Lotus had nothing to do with this car whatsoever and Shelby had nothing to do with the MK1, which is the most famous for winning LeMans in 68 an 69 and these cars had been redesigned for the 68 season, Ford motor co. incidently had nothing to do with these cars as they had pulled out from this project at the end of 67 as they had done what they had set out to achieve, even the top half of the engine was British, therefore like the AC Cobra it is a British car
All built in the UK
andyj288 6 months ago
@andyj288 I meant Lola not Lotus. The chasis and body were originally designed by Lola and were supplied with Ford power when Ford purchased the designs from them to fight Ferrari. The cars may not have flown the Ford flag after that but they still had Ford power. And I never said Shelby had anything to do with the Mk1 GT40s. The AC Ace is a British car, the AC Cobra is a myth. It never actually existed. Shelby picked up the design and changed it and added his own flavor.
AnAngryPossom 6 months ago
@AnAngryPossom The AC Cobra is definitely NOT a myth. ALL Cobras were built by AC in England, although Cobras made for the US (which was most of them) were only built to rolling body/chassis stage for Shelby American to finish. Cobras built for the UK/European markets were built entirely by AC with no involvement from Shelby. Shelby certainly instigated the Cobra, but contrary to what many Americans seem to think, he never took an Ace and fitted a V8. AC built the Cobra as a Cobra from day 1.
t45tube 3 months ago
@t45tube ac-cobra was built as an a/c ace.....shellby asked a/c to build a left hand drive chassis that could take a v8..the birth of the 'cobra'....shellby has sole 'cobra' nameing rights....which means its his name period!...all a/c cobras from 1960 on-wards were american....the 427 badged cars actualy had 428 motors!
OHNGAI 3 months ago
@OHNGAI The Cobra was developed from the Ace, but it was not built as an Ace and converted into a Cobra by Shelby. All the original development work to take the V8 was done by AC and the Cobra was built as a new model in its own right with bespoke body and chassis. And while Shelby came up with the Cobra name, be sold the rights to it to Ford in 1965. No Cobras were American. The Cobra is an Anglo-American collaboration - just like the GT40 (apart from the MkIV which was all American).
t45tube 3 months ago
@t45tube It doesn't matter where the car was built; the AC Ace was hot-rodded like 30s Fords in the 50s. Hot Rodding is quintessentially American. Hot Rods can be built anywhere - and are, but their theme remains quintessentially American. Shelby wasn't a trailblazer with the Ace, he was just doing a 60s version of 50s American hot rodding, but his vision for the Ace made the Cobra an American vision. It is not likely that the Ace would have lived/evolved if it hadn't become an American hot rod.
scaryGTM 2 months ago
@t45tube Before anyone suggests that it's not just American to change an engine and make a race car, it's important to understand that ingenuity alone doesn't makes hot-rodding a car a quintessentially American thing to do, it's simply the fact that America has a cultural history of shoehorning it's V8s into lesser-power cars & transforming those cars into competitive racing cars of their era. The Ace survived by becoming part of US hot-rodding culture, envisioned by an American hot-rodder.
scaryGTM 2 months ago
@scaryGTM Actually, the concept of shoehorning a bigger engine into a car to make it go faster pre-dates hot-rodding. Several famous race cars had their original engines replaced by massive aero engines back in the 1930s. And the concept of fitting a big American V8 into a lightweight British sports car pre-dates the Cobra by a long way too. Sydney Allard started using Cadillac V8s in his sports cars (most famously the J2) around 1950, and like the Cobra that was aimed mainly at the US market.
t45tube 2 months ago
@t45tube Like I said, sure it's been done and sure it wasn't great ingenuity BUT it remains a concept popularized by the American hot-rodding era and nothing will remove any of that. I'm talking about a CULTURE of hot-rodding. That culture remains an American culture.
scaryGTM 2 months ago
@scaryGTM I see what you're getting at now. I actually made a remark to an American car journalist at a British car show a few years back about American car culture being a history of hot rodding and British car culture being a history of sports cars. I suppose the Cobra sort of brought the two together.
t45tube 2 months ago
@t45tube I agree; British car specials were custom sports cars... U.S. car specials - modifieds/hot rods. In Ace becoming Cobra, it did indeed become a bit of both but I think it's fair to say that the vision for Ace to become Cobra remained Shelby's - the Cobra took on the specific spirit of American hot rodding through Shelby's specific vision. There was nothing wrong with the Ace as it was, but whether it would've become a V8 hot rod without Shelby/American hot-rodding culture is doubtful.

427Sparky 2 years ago
That's a GT40 from the 1960s backfiring. That's why it has that "Crazy Sound." It's a straight exhaust, No Cat, shorty racing headers, & the exhaust tailpipe sticks about 10in out & 3ft off the ground near the rear fin....A backfire is excess pressure in the exhaust that builds up and it doesn't release immediately as it should, instead it quickly builds & bursts in pops. Many problems can cause this, like too much power from the engine for the exhaust to handle.
Not-uncommon in tuned cars.

Jonrummage 1 year ago
The AC cobra did not have an american engine, lol but you know that. the Shelby cobra 427 did
nightsoul2003 1 year ago
You guy s need to do your homework. The original was an AC Bristol that was built in England that Carrol Shelby drove and he put the 289 V8 into it. Then when the 427 came out Carrol Shelby wanted to use that engine in it. but the frame was to weak. So Carrol had FORD in the USA design and build a frame that would handle the the 427 and this is the AC Cobra and that is a registered name that belongs to Carrol Shelby
427Sparky 2 years ago
A few years back I saw Carrol Shelby once randomly driving his new (at the time) Shelby 'Series 1' Roadster.
He was in the area and I live on a windy and curvy back road. I'm outside by the road and hear a loud exotic sounding car coming around the corner, he slowed to around 20mph and rolls by & waves with a smile as he passed & punches it and off he went.
I didn't believe it, but later that day I found out he was doing a Signing and Mini-Car Show nearby the next day.
Very cool moment.
tftmc 2 years ago
@427Sparky
The added traction would benefit the car in every way.
tftmc 2 years ago
@427Sparky
-pt.2
Still, what he did with the AC Cobra was ahead of it's time, but a little bit of overkill.
Today engines, drivetrains & parts of all sorts are swapped in all major car manufacturer's models.
But, the AC Cobra was meant to be the ultimate roadster (least that's my guess to what Shelby was thinking.) He failed for one reason, he added too much power. The 327ci(5.4l) would have added more power per lb. than the 427, and kept the F/R balance. The AC-Replicas are more practical.
tftmc 2 years ago
Shelby put the engine in the Cobra....... not the Bristol.
Jonrummage 1 year ago
@427Sparky WRONG, the chasis was a beefed up version of the bristol, Ford had nothing to do with the chasis, Carrol Shelby had an input in the design and of course stuck a 427 engine into it, the cobras were made in Britain and then assembled in the States
andyj288 6 months ago
@andyj288 WRONG the Caroll Shelby wanted to put the 427 engines in them he went to Ford to design a new frame coz the 427 wouldnt fit in the orginal or handle the torque. Also they were all built by hand in LA California at Caroll Shelbys shop

We already knew of them BOTH before Shelby came begging to use them............
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a It's kinda pointless to sit and argue about such things. No matter, it had an AMERICAN ENGINE, AMERICAN DRIVERS (besides Ken Miles and Bruce McClaren) and AMERICAN TIRES. The initial setup was done in England but Roy Lunn had developed a car in 1961 that already had a mid-engine, so Ford was headed in that direction BEFORE going to Lola.
xciteful 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a You may be overgeneralizing a bit. While the first GT40 MkI was basically all British, the MkII (first one to win Le Mans) was further improved with help by Carrol Shelby, and the MkIV GT40 was completely designed in the US. Long story short, the more americanized the cars got, the more successful they were at racing. Hmm...
k6k6k6Darkie 1 year ago
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha because the MkIV was all-american in design. Are you going to tell me the racing team also determines the nationality of the car? By that argument the Gulf Porsche 917s must've to some degree British? Don't be a retard.
k6k6k6Darkie 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a lol sadly it wasnt american until mr shelby put his name on it ;)
DrSloer 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a so what does it matter if it was built in the UK? is this suppose to make UK sound smart?
DarkHour404 1 year ago
No just makes the americans sound dumb for constantly waving their fucking flags everywhere claiming everything good is American.. Which it isnt.
Same with the new Ford GT. Built entirely out of exsisting parts from European sportscars. Handling set up by Lotus. Ford just lifted the engine out of a Ford pickup truck for americans to get all patriotic over and sold it as an american product.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha well it bascially IS an american product since it is sold by us and our name is under it. Yes you did build the main frame, but we put the heart into it "the engine". And this was probably one of the most powerfull engines at the time built, it can even be classed today as a supercar.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
Well the new Ford GT is certainly the closest USA ever came to a supercar.
But what do you mean I built it ? I believe most people that built it are dead by now. Im not brittish or a car builder. Nor am I trying to claim ownership to this thing on behalf of britain. Im just saying how it is. And I resent the constant relentless american flagwaving over any topic regardless of actual facts.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha oh I thought you were british, didnt bother checking because 90% of the time people who defend this are. And I didnt mean you, I meant to say "you guys" as in British in General, but since your not british then nvm.
Also the Corvette ZR1 (650HP SC) is a supercar. It has more power then a Enzo ferrari and can take turns just as good as a Lambo.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
ZR1 is certainly quick enough but spends 8 minutes in a factory being welded and spray painted by robots and except its speed is about as exciting as a midrange BMW or Mercedes. Supercars need style and finesse and the Corvette is sadly lacking both.
Then there is the fact that when you sit inside one, it wont let you forget that you are sitting in a GM. Loads of cars are quick. That doesnt automatically qualify for supercar stardom. I think thats where US-supercar attempts get it wrong.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha ZR1 ecciting to a BMW and Benz? LOL? and you know this how? have you ever been in a zr1? Those things have so much torque and power that the only reason they have 0-60 in 3.2 sec is because the wheels cant get traction from all the power. And its RWD which means it is 30000 Times more fun then any ferrari or lambo, bmw and benz combined. And super cars are not about "wood and style" Corvette has plenty of style, look at its wide body and curves, its modern and classic at the same time.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
@Janusha And your telling me a SC 650HP v8(not v10 or v12 like most european super cars) STOCK out of the factory doing 0-60 in 2.9-3.0 sec and pulling over 0.60 G's in turns is not good enough for you? where in that did the US super car go wrong?
All your doing is trying to find out the most horrible things about American cars to make America look bad since for some reason your pissed at us.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
And have you ever tried a Ferrari or Lambo ? I have. And there is no point quoting figures to me because I know it all. Like I said, the ZR1 is certainly quick enough but lacks style and refinement.
But lets look at US-supercars. The SSC is a kitcar put together largely by parts out of other cars on a kit-car budget and sold what. 10 cars. Moslers, Saleen S7 are racecars with numberplates that sold 20 cars? And thats the end of the list. There are 50-60 Euro-supercars and 4-5 from elsewhere.
Janusha 1 year ago
Because while americans are eager to support their own brands. Leap forth fist in the air to wave flags in their honor at any sign of criticism... when its time to step up and actually buy one, they chose a Ferrari instead.
Every single US-supercar attempt has gone down the same road. Vector, Saleen, Mosler, SSC. Fit a huge engine to get all patriotic over into a steel tubular skeleton frame (as used in racecars since the 60s) shout BEST IN THE WOORLD, sell 20 cars and go out of business.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha And most Americans who buy ferrari's over US supercars are rich idiots who know nothing about cars. 90% of these guys are doctors or company owners who buy the ferrari because of its Name brand. Only small people know what a SSC or ZR1 are. They are just idiots who want to show off what they can buy.
And we put engines the same size as europeans do. Why does a lambo or Vanquish need fucking 6l+ v12's? I dont know about you but those are big engines.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
@Janusha I dont need to try out a lambo and ferrari, I KNOW a zr1 is much more fun just by looking a way a ferrari and lamo handle. And I dount you have been in any one, and if you have im 100% you never have gone over 60. Don't use lies in your argument to make you seem more right, no point. And only few SSC's Aero(fastest car in the world made by shelby) is the second fastest selling production car in the world. Next to Buggatti veyron. And Saleen S7 well I dont know too much about it.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
The ssc is the second fastest selling production car in the world ? What the fuck are you talking about ? Who tells you these things ? At what point is it allowed to use your own brain and not believing all this shit you read on the net.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha o my god your an idiot, I did not mean "fastest" as in "sells the most cars by buyer". I mean it is the fastest car in the world that is sold (production). OUT OF THE FACTORY.
Veyron- 255.81 mph
SSC UA-256.14
And funny thing is the SSC is a supercharged v8 small block while the Veyron is a 16W cylnder using 4 turbo's and STILL and is only .01 seconds slower then the veyron in 0-60 and 0-120 time.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
I think youll find number of cylinders does as much for speed as number of cupholders. However.. feel free to sprinkle patriotism on that kit-car all you like. Its still going to be rubbish at the end of the day.
"sells the most cars by buyer" Go to school and learn to write. It helps communication.
Janusha 1 year ago
RIGHT there tells me you don't know anything about how a internal combustion engine works. Cylnders does not do much you think huh? so why doesn't Honda make a 1000HP supercar with a 4 cylnder or v6 with their 2l Engines? Why does the veyron need a 8L 1000HP Quad turbo V16? why don't they use a Civc engine instead? "sells the most cars by buyer" is a legit sentence strucutre, you know what, you ask and go off subject WAY too much in this whole conversation. Your kind of....hmm...annoying.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
Dude youre weird. Honda does make a 1000hp 2 litre engine. Its what they use in F1 you silly arse. Honda was an engine supplyer for years after they quit racing themselves.
As for supercars.. Do you think Ferrari, Lambo and the rest DONT produce 1000hp supercars because they are unable to or because its utterly pointless?
Think about it. Does USA have a history for quality vehicles or supercars? Not at all. Still still every single american kid thinks they know better than Euro-cars. Amazing.
Janusha 1 year ago
Was I talking about Liters? we were talking about cyilnders. I said show me a honda that is under a v6 and a 2l Producing 1000HP+. A typical Formula 1 race engine is a four stroke v8 (8 cyilnders) which is natrually aspirated (meaning no type of turbo, pro, super ect chargers of any kind installed). YOU said cylnders don't matter. So if they don't matter show me a 4 cylnder 1000HP engine that works and can do a quarter mile in 9 sec like most v8-v10 ect engines can.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
@Janusha When the fuck did I say Ferraris and lambos dont produce 1000HP? my whole point of the argument is that lambos and ferraris and Buggati's (euro super cars) use v10 v12s and v16 engines to produce power). AND YOU SAID That American only makes their cars fast by big engines. HEY IDIOT euro super cars USE big engines. American super cars use smaller engines. We invented the fastest street legal production car in the world (SSC) And it uses a smaller engine then euro cars.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
Oh my... YOU represent the kind of american that makes people think all americans are hate spitting flagwaving bewildered fuckwits. Congratulations on that achievement.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha O look, the typical "I cant think of anymore to say so Im just going to switch subjects and go for the insults because that way I feel better about myself and not feel like I lost".
I just proved you wrong and with with your stupid child ignorance you just can't accept your wrong with your Bullshit. You obvsiously have some problem with Americans, did one of our B-52's by accident drop a 2000 LBL GBU bomb on your house on a training mission? or are you just a emotional little girl?
DarkHour404 1 year ago
@Janusha tell you what so you can have the last comment between us ok? since you want to try to feel like you over dominated me, I will let you finish me off. Please call me a idiot and what ever your anger feels like spitting out.
I am done with this bullshit of yours, good bye.
DarkHour404 1 year ago
I think you forgot all Porches and the proper Ferraris, Koenigsegg, Gumpert... none of them uses V10-V16. When I think of super cars, Bugatti is definitely not the one I'm thinking about, or even a Lambo. It's ZR1, 911 GT3, F430 Scuderia, something like that.
Compare USA 6,2l->8,3l to Euro 3,8l->7,3l (Zonda).
I consider Bugatti as a fast car, but it wasn't really made to be driven on the track, thus it's not a super car, _IMO_.

@Janusha you re wrong shelby start design the ford gt from a lola gt ,it doesn twant to say it is british !
GTplayer77 1 year ago
yeah.
Janusha 1 year ago
@GTplayer77 You clearly know nothing at all about cars. Go do some homework before you bother replying to anything again. AC Cobra, and GT40 are classic and quintessential British cars.

NIGBEATS 1 year ago

Shelby just stuck a different engine in his version but the AC Cobra is a British car, thats all you stupid fucker!!
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@NIGBEATS when Ford failed to buy Ferrari, they said 'they wanted to beat the italians in their own backyard', but they couldn't come up with a car to beat them, so they asked Lotus to build one for them..... Lotus and Lola came up with the GT40, and sold it to Ford. Built and designed by the Britis!!!!! The Yanks couldn't build a car as good as the GT40 or Cobra, never!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for loving these great british cars anyway toy fucking twat!!!!!!
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@NIGBEATS So you have a video on your channel on the AC Cobra, and you don't even know the history of the car you fucktard? AC is a British company... the Cobra is a british car, which shelby decided to put a ford engine in. The AC Cobra is the brainchild of the AC car company (not carol shelby as you said in your own words). he just toook a cobra and put a ford engine in it. COBRA = BRITISH CAR!!
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a do you know why Shelby teamed up with AC? It was because they were a bunch of British schmucks who couldn't do anything right and were in danger of going under. Yes they made A cobra before Shelby arrived, the 289, which was shit. Shelby hated Ferrari with a fucking passion because they always placed (usually 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and Shelby wanted to beat them. So Carroll Shelby teamed up with AC and redesigned the 289 cobra to make the 427.
NIGBEATS 1 year ago
@NIGBEATS So British car manufacturers can't do anything right??? Britain has always lead the way with prestigeous cars. Ask anyone given the choice what they'd prefer... A Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, Jaguar, Range Rover, TVR, Morgan,..... or i suppose you think they'd prefer a Chrysler or maybe a Dodge???
You're fucking mental !!!!!!!
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a ....The 427 Cobra which was indeed owned by a British car company, so on paper it was as British as a Jaguar, BUT it is considered AMERICAN due to who its father was. Now the Cobra, which was a roadster could not compete in the GT class because ,by design, had no roof; Though a hard top was available. So the 427 Cobra raced in the "open cockpit" class which was where the Ferrari GTO raced.
NIGBEATS 1 year ago
@NIGBEATS Not quite sure who you mean considers it to be American. AC is a British company... just because some Yank twat decided to put a Ford Engine in it , doesn't mean it's an American car. It's British, just as the GT40 is a British car with an American Engine. Ask anyone on the Planet, and they'll tell you the Cobra is British. You Yanks are just jealous, 'cause you can't make a decent car. Shelby isnt the 'father' of the Cobra.... AC is, you fucking mongrel.
jackrussell19a 1 year ago
@jackrussell19a ...In order to race in the GT class, AC needed a fixed roof coupe. Shelby then designed the Cobra Coupe Daytona. There were a total of 6 made, with the first being custom designed to fit Ken Miles, a Brit engineer and Racing driver. It took so long to make the body that Shelby and AC didn't really have any time to test or fine tune any of the body work but it turns out that that shape of the car was damn near perfect. Then in order to make the other 5, Italian craftsman made em'
