I know what Karate is, I train Karate myself.. Karate started as the martial art called Te (Hand) then become Karate-Do (The way of Chinese/empty hand).. My post had nothing to do about that but rather that this was not a Karate kumite......
1. The gi used looks like TKD
2. The fighting looks like TKD
3. The flags on the Shoman shows USA and Korea meaning the facility is located in USA and the martial art is Korean (TKD), not Japan
if you look at the gi you see the black edges. that's typical for TKD gi and less common for karate. even thou there are many types and colors of gi.
many martial arts originates from other martial arts, that has nothing to do with my statements. tkd is not a branch of karate but based on many different styles. if you want to know that tkd read some about it before you speak! start with wikipedia...
they both suck, in 2 year martial arts (because it take approximately 2-4 years to becom a black belt) you dont really get good and usefull untill like 3rd+ degree black belt (because in total that takes 7-10 years to reach 3rd.) point sparing isnt bad if you actually punch hard, like in karate kid.

I can say out of experience that sparring with a girl can be awkward. This guy was probably afraid to give it his all in fear of hurting her, so to be honest I'm not overly surprised by the outcome.

i dont see how these two are wearing black belts. their technique is not very good. the girl seems to have a better grasp of what she does know though. i even seen a few combo kicks. i'd have to say that the taller person would maybe be a red belt where the girl would probably a red or brown belt. i have seen alot of TKD and karate schools that reward belts prematurely because they think that will keep the students coming back longer. that seems to be the case here.
There is a bit too much tension in here.... ok, this is a low-level point fight, probably a local tournament, and the girl won. So what? Do everyone have to be world-class athletes to post videos on youtube? Or only KOs fights are "allowed"? Of course one can think point fighting is not really a fight, your opinion, but that doesnt mean it shouldnt exist or something. She was more skilled, she won, good for her.
That's the difference in fighting within rules of engagement and REAL fighting on the street. Clearly these two were WAY mismatched. But when the fight is reduced to rules, regulations, points for this, points for that, stepping over lines, etc, then hell yeah, it's easy for lesser experienced fighters and small females to win. However, this is not representative of truly "winning" a fight but merely fighting within a bunch of BS rules that let you win based on technical points. Thumbs down.

@molonski Actually... Yes. Speaking from experience, I attended a TKD studio for traditional Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido for 8 years. Our Sabumnim (Instructor) was a woman, and her two daughters were also black belts. You went into the studio with that attitude, they would beat it out of you. You learned to train and fight against them like any guy or they would step up the beat down until you were forced to respect them as an opponent regardless of gender.
most of his kicks are taken from outside the ring as she charges. he is kicikng her gaurd and she is double kicking to get him to block the first, then going around it. she's pretty good. she closes fast adn connects. he throws flashy kicks in front of her face. in front of, not on. he hit her in the back twice which doesn't count in most point sparring.
Can't stand Tae Kwon Do only for the reason that they give black belts out like prizes in a cracker jack boxes. How can a 14 year old be a black belt? It should take 8-14 years in most martial arts to get a black belt. In TKD you can get one in months.
@cooljj82 actually it does take a long time to get to black because the gradings are 3 months apart for the first 3 and then for the rest they are 6 months apart and there are 11 grading before black belt and then after black belt there are 1st - 9th dan which you need a year til the first 2 till second and so on so in the end you would have spent an awful long time getting it right :)
@Themanwhich Thats still under 5 years to black belt. To my knowledge that has never been done in several other martial arts. It is also my knowledge that different gyms or dojos have different rules and I have been told directly by 3rd degree black belts in TKD that you can get a black belt in a matter of months. It has basically become a business and parents aren't paying big bucks for little jimmys self esteme if he is stuck at white and yellow belt for a year.

As part of the W.T.F world tae kwon do federation and as a student i think its ridiculous. when i was orange belt i fought 3 black belts at same time all at least 20-30 years of age in a competition. I had to throw combos good thing i had wing chun or i would have lost. :D

What a kiddie show. Lol and so short. I remember one guy you would practice full contact sparring, would always have to kick you in the head.. Shorter than him? Just didn't have to kick as high to kick you in the head...(I fell into this category) Point sparring? STILL kicks you in the head.. One of the best at that school though, first place at competitions.
im a 3rd degree black belt in shotokan (traditional japanese karate ). for someone with my skill level its fairly easy 2 pick tae kwon do apart...all the kicks are slow and telegraphed...both of these kids could use more practice. though i did spot points that should have been awarded 2 the boy, i do agree with the girl winning. she made more clean contacts than he did.
@jeremyat11 Ahhh my Dad is a 2nd degree in Shotokan, its a pretty awesome art but dude I do Taekwondo and with all the people I train with, we don't telegraph our kicks and we execute them very fast, because no speed = no power, also just because your a 3rd Degree doesn't mean you can beat up shit, going in cocky and arrogant like that will get you knocked out no matter if its a white belt or someone who hasnt done any martial art, and being a 3rd Degree I thought you would have some respect.

Thats why I hate point sparring, it is completely subjective to the referee(s). I am a black belt in TKD and lost a match by one point to a red belt, and when I watched the video, I could clearly point out every point I made, and to make it better, I could only find two real points that the other guy got, it was like I was fighting a punching bag and it won because someone decided to give it a higher score.
I'm not specifically dissing you, but point fighting. If you want real martial training, use the Chinese rules. No direct hits to the balls or eyes. Anything else goes, until pin-down or knockout.
Having been a judge with the NASKA, I can say that I support the win. A lot is considered in awarding points, it must not only be a hit, but a valid, controlled hit, and technique is considered. If point fighting were done as free sparing, or true nhb, people would be killed. Even UFc, MMA, and others disqualify certain techniques to keep the sparring safe for the competitors, sans that sparring would not be possible at all. Nicely done.
and by the way, it's fucking obvious to any rational person the guy won. I mean just like at the fight, the girl seems scared and has very poor technique. Wanna know why she won? I'll tell you why. Feminism. They give everything to girls now, even when they don't deserve it.

First of all, if you like sparring stop with the point sparring. It is for weaklings. Start training for the No-Stop sparring system, it is for the advance fighters.
A tip i give you, train your stamina the most, learn to have better control over your breathing and stick with the basics.

@OneBigMistakeAmerica if you have a blackbelt you should have real fighting skill. the kid fell on a damn spinning back kick, and if thats not bad enough it was way horribly aimed. he did it completly wrong and didnt look before he kicked. if your a black belt you better know how to throw a kick like that correctly. people who actually deserve blackbelts these days are few and far between for the very reason that people want the title without the work and money talks.

@HorsesWithAmie There really isnt much of a difference except Taekwondo sparring is much more competitive and relies more on athleticism than Tang Soo Do. The forms are also different (of course) but Tang Soo Do and old school Taekwondo have almost identical origins and techniques.
I find it funny...I think I am a whimp. And when I am able to hold certain rambuncious girls easily in the grasp of my weak arm when I think they are getting out of line...then it turns out when I let go they go and kick a dozen of these girls asses along with `owning` a couple of tough guys(bad leroy browns)...then they look at me with puppy dog eyes when I require an accounting of their actions, because their parents cant control them...ironinc.
In a real fight, she would have easily kicked his ass. He is tall, way taller than her, and he keeps kicking very high, and doing his stupid back and forth dance on his feet. The boy is trying to look cool. Since she is smaller, she can crouch low and trip him instantly, as seen in this video as the boy falls on his ass hard. His legs are long, and when he kicks high, his crotch is exposed to her. All she needs to do his place a solid punch to his unprotected nuts...the fight will be over!

I am a black belt in Song Ahm Tae Kwon do and I dont know how the judge is scoring because I have it 7-4 in favor of the guy. He is scoring all over the place and not getting the points, probably because he is sparring a girl. She even gets kicked and nearly goes to the floor and gets the point? Please. She got her ass kicked.

i dont see how these two are wearing black belts. their technique is not very good. the girl seems to have a better grasp of what she does know though. i even seen a few combo kicks. i'd have to say that the taller person would maybe be a red belt where the girl would probably a red or brown belt. i have seen alot of TKD and karate schools that reward belts prematurely because they think that will keep the students coming back longer. that seems to be the case here.

There is a bit too much tension in here.... ok, this is a low-level point fight, probably a local tournament, and the girl won. So what? Do everyone have to be world-class athletes to post videos on youtube? Or only KOs fights are "allowed"? Of course one can think point fighting is not really a fight, your opinion, but that doesnt mean it shouldnt exist or something. She was more skilled, she won, good for her.

That's the difference in fighting within rules of engagement and REAL fighting on the street. Clearly these two were WAY mismatched. But when the fight is reduced to rules, regulations, points for this, points for that, stepping over lines, etc, then hell yeah, it's easy for lesser experienced fighters and small females to win. However, this is not representative of truly "winning" a fight but merely fighting within a bunch of BS rules that let you win based on technical points. Thumbs down.

@molonski Actually... Yes. Speaking from experience, I attended a TKD studio for traditional Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido for 8 years. Our Sabumnim (Instructor) was a woman, and her two daughters were also black belts. You went into the studio with that attitude, they would beat it out of you. You learned to train and fight against them like any guy or they would step up the beat down until you were forced to respect them as an opponent regardless of gender.

most of his kicks are taken from outside the ring as she charges. he is kicikng her gaurd and she is double kicking to get him to block the first, then going around it. she's pretty good. she closes fast adn connects. he throws flashy kicks in front of her face. in front of, not on. he hit her in the back twice which doesn't count in most point sparring.

Ugh, one of my most uninformative memories as a youngster is being forced to spar against the girls in karate.
I don't want to sound sexist but a 14 year old boy DOES NOT want to kick/punch a girl his own age.
Her titties just started growing, he wants to bang a girl so bad, the last thing he wants to do is seriously spar with a girl.

Can't stand Tae Kwon Do only for the reason that they give black belts out like prizes in a cracker jack boxes. How can a 14 year old be a black belt? It should take 8-14 years in most martial arts to get a black belt. In TKD you can get one in months.

@cooljj82 actually it does take a long time to get to black because the gradings are 3 months apart for the first 3 and then for the rest they are 6 months apart and there are 11 grading before black belt and then after black belt there are 1st - 9th dan which you need a year til the first 2 till second and so on so in the end you would have spent an awful long time getting it right :)

@Themanwhich Thats still under 5 years to black belt. To my knowledge that has never been done in several other martial arts. It is also my knowledge that different gyms or dojos have different rules and I have been told directly by 3rd degree black belts in TKD that you can get a black belt in a matter of months. It has basically become a business and parents aren't paying big bucks for little jimmys self esteme if he is stuck at white and yellow belt for a year.

As part of the W.T.F world tae kwon do federation and as a student i think its ridiculous. when i was orange belt i fought 3 black belts at same time all at least 20-30 years of age in a competition. I had to throw combos good thing i had wing chun or i would have lost. :D

What a kiddie show. Lol and so short. I remember one guy you would practice full contact sparring, would always have to kick you in the head.. Shorter than him? Just didn't have to kick as high to kick you in the head...(I fell into this category) Point sparring? STILL kicks you in the head.. One of the best at that school though, first place at competitions.

im a 3rd degree black belt in shotokan (traditional japanese karate ). for someone with my skill level its fairly easy 2 pick tae kwon do apart...all the kicks are slow and telegraphed...both of these kids could use more practice. though i did spot points that should have been awarded 2 the boy, i do agree with the girl winning. she made more clean contacts than he did.

@jeremyat11 Ahhh my Dad is a 2nd degree in Shotokan, its a pretty awesome art but dude I do Taekwondo and with all the people I train with, we don't telegraph our kicks and we execute them very fast, because no speed = no power, also just because your a 3rd Degree doesn't mean you can beat up shit, going in cocky and arrogant like that will get you knocked out no matter if its a white belt or someone who hasnt done any martial art, and being a 3rd Degree I thought you would have some respect.

Thats why I hate point sparring, it is completely subjective to the referee(s). I am a black belt in TKD and lost a match by one point to a red belt, and when I watched the video, I could clearly point out every point I made, and to make it better, I could only find two real points that the other guy got, it was like I was fighting a punching bag and it won because someone decided to give it a higher score.

Having been a judge with the NASKA, I can say that I support the win. A lot is considered in awarding points, it must not only be a hit, but a valid, controlled hit, and technique is considered. If point fighting were done as free sparing, or true nhb, people would be killed. Even UFc, MMA, and others disqualify certain techniques to keep the sparring safe for the competitors, sans that sparring would not be possible at all. Nicely done.

First of all, if you like sparring stop with the point sparring. It is for weaklings. Start training for the No-Stop sparring system, it is for the advance fighters.
A tip i give you, train your stamina the most, learn to have better control over your breathing and stick with the basics.

@OneBigMistakeAmerica if you have a blackbelt you should have real fighting skill. the kid fell on a damn spinning back kick, and if thats not bad enough it was way horribly aimed. he did it completly wrong and didnt look before he kicked. if your a black belt you better know how to throw a kick like that correctly. people who actually deserve blackbelts these days are few and far between for the very reason that people want the title without the work and money talks.

@HorsesWithAmie There really isnt much of a difference except Taekwondo sparring is much more competitive and relies more on athleticism than Tang Soo Do. The forms are also different (of course) but Tang Soo Do and old school Taekwondo have almost identical origins and techniques.

In a real fight, she would have easily kicked his ass. He is tall, way taller than her, and he keeps kicking very high, and doing his stupid back and forth dance on his feet. The boy is trying to look cool. Since she is smaller, she can crouch low and trip him instantly, as seen in this video as the boy falls on his ass hard. His legs are long, and when he kicks high, his crotch is exposed to her. All she needs to do his place a solid punch to his unprotected nuts...the fight will be over!

I am a black belt in Song Ahm Tae Kwon do and I dont know how the judge is scoring because I have it 7-4 in favor of the guy. He is scoring all over the place and not getting the points, probably because he is sparring a girl. She even gets kicked and nearly goes to the floor and gets the point? Please. She got her ass kicked.
