@niksanbgbg If you look closely, twists his foot about 15 degrees when he hooks, which is perfect. And he does twist his hip right before the hook. He explains it pretty well for a 1 minute 30 second video, instead of an hour of lecture. This guy is a professional, and I don't think you are.
@MapleSephiroth Exactly, Marvin was a tough fighter in the 80s he fought under Jimmy McCallister who fought Willie Pep to a draw he was a good trainer. Marvin fought cats 10 pounds heavier than him and still punished them. He is 50 + but he will still whip these faggot cats who always got something to say about those who know, but they never have any how to videos. If you think you can beat him he's on North Av & Druid Hills in Baltimore Maryland go see him...
remember when u pivot on that front foot u still gotta maintain ur balance, right?? so you gotta shift your weight to ur back foot as ur making contact......thats what i do.
Your moves are so wrong man, like first with your right hand your not covering your head, second when you hit with your left hand you are going back and than you are hitting the bag, third your movement with your legs and body is all wrong. I'am telling you because I 'am proff boxer.
@AutoKiller47, he's not training, he's instructing and it only lasted 90 seconds. He could've worn a tuxedo and still got the left hook punch technique right.
Leaning in and dropping your hand is recipe ofr a devastating knockout. I think the man demonstrating was being lazy about carefully explaining or demonstrating. Never lean in, work your into the punch.
i dont know but if i see trainer who wears pair of jeans and safety boots just can take it seriously apart of that every time he throws that "hook" hes off balance and proper hook should be with high elbow and thumb faceing floor.Shittest coach ever.
WTF? You don't throw a left hook with all your weight on your left foot! You transfer your weight to the back foot, lift your left heel, and pivot on the ball of your left foot, with your right heel down. Anyone with more than a weeks training knows that.
@cypresscoach you can throw it either way, front foot would be more for a lead L hook leaping into it whereas the back foot would be for a hook from the stance..pref going high..correct me if im wrong.
Expert village should be more in debt in the teaching aspect, for instance the gentlemen demonstrated the hook pretty nicely but the instruction was not there. He should of spoken of the proper balance and hip rotation.
Make sure you're financially straight to pay $50-$80 dollars a month or $250-$300 for seven months to a year for a membership. Then, open up your Google search and look for a boxing gym nearest to your location. Call them up and get their information or go there (recommended), and you'll be set in no time. Getting in shape for gym training would also be a great idea. A good routine would be 50 push-ups and 200 sit-ups three times a day and run at least 3 miles a week for a month.
@iAMcooooooool lol have you seen expert villiage you fucking dumbass? six people agree with me 0 people agree with you. Maybe you really should idolize me it might get you somewhere in life
Who cares if they agree with you? This is youtube, known worldwide for having the stupidest comments on the planet. And I'm sick of everyone having nothing better to do than criticize videos all the time. That's all you negative pricks do: find a useful video that's there to help you free of charge, and then attack. To call you people 'assholes' is to be so kind. Expert village is giving you tons of free, useful information, and your response is that of treacherous ingrate.
#1 how can you attack me for being negative when you are being a thousand times more negative. Critizing someone for negativity doesn't justify even greater negativity on your part.
#2 Expert village has some of the worst advice on youtube.
#3 If you were smarter maybe you wouldn't get verbally destroyed on the website with the dumbest comments in the world (your words not mine)
#1 You failed to respond to point #1 on my third post, thanks for admitting you got owned.
#2 "says who?" says me, a youtube viewer
#3 "if you dont like it leave your negativity away", once again I turn this right around on you by saying if you don't like my post, then don't read it. Once again you criticize my negativity with even greater negativity of your own, contradicting your entire point.
Your first point was so stupid, I ignored it to spare you the embarassment. But since you insist, there's a difference between being negative towards a neutral party, one that is doing you good (free advice), and being negative towards the prick who did that. You transgressed, I punished. That's the difference. That also responds to your third point.
"Says me"
And what gives your opinion any worth? That's not an objective judgment. If you don't like'em, leave'em. Simple.
#1 you can't justify bad behavior with other bad behavior, you are doing the same thing as me, you just can't admit it. You didn't respond to my point because I am right and you can't prove me wrong by saying "its stupid" and your angry comments demonstrate your awareness of how bad you are losing the argument.
#2 "says me" I am a youtube viewer, I am the intended audience therefore my opinion is valid, I have also watched plenty of expert village vids (more than you).
I did, but I think your primitive intelligence is showing its limits. Let me use an analogy for your simple mind: when a bully beats you up, that's wrong. When your older brother beats up the bully, that's not wrong. Assault on an innocent is wrong; punishment isn't. Criticizing EV is asshole-ish; criticizing the asshole who did it isn't.
"my opinion is valid"
No, it isn't, a wild generalization ("most their stuff sucks") means nothing whatsoever.
@iAMcooooooool So this is basically boiling down to our differing perceptions of expert village. If they do in fact suck then you are wrong and if they are good and "innocent" in this instance then you are right. If you go through the trouble of watching their videos you might realize that they are horrible. Also the fact that 4 people agree with me and 0 agree with you might make my opinion 400% more valid than yours.
@Arcturistheballer Depends on how inept you are to learning. I learned some submissions from EV before i started mma training and my coaches told me they were being executed perfectly. so like I said all depends on who does it
@kelvyi You should learn all your submissions before your start mma training, (lie #1). I don't think there is a school with coaches retarded enough to tell you that you are doing it perfect on your first try (lie #2) where do you train? Mike's martial arts?
@Arcturistheballer 1 I dont recall saying first time? Do you see "First time" in there at all? I practiced them alot before I went anywhere for actual training. 2nd I know alot of grappling infact I have a purple belt in Judo a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and I wrestled in highschool. And last I'm a black belt in isshinryu karate at Elite Martial Arts Rockaway New Jersey where i also lead an MMA class for people who want to get in the sport. faggot
@dootsonboi sorry, I meant to say he said on another of his videos to breathe through your nose. I thought breathing with your mouth open would increase the chances of a broken jaw
Nice. Right to the point. No 10 minutes of useless mechanics that most people forget after 1 watch, just dig in with your lead toe, swing your hips and do the motherfuckin "twist"
Join my Facebook group.Nechells group Nechells.Check my new videos boxing, carpet cleaning, tiling and gardening too if you like.1/2 hour on the punchbag.
Why are you punching the bag at a person's shoulder height?!?! Punch at head height. Don't forget the bag represents your opponent. Are you planning on fighting a 10yr old kid?
and if u want tips for boxing and fighting read jack dempsey championship fighting on pdf just google it. i thought i knew everything about throwing a punch but my straight left is a killer since i learned fall stepping from that book.
I asked on another video, but I'm curious for some other opinions. When throwing a hook, are you knuckles meant to face the ceiling or the opponent? Mr. McDowell seems to throw his angled a bit, so I'm curious.
@TommyGun7111 The pivot doesn't have to be exaggerated. It can be very subtle and be enough to land with authority. It can be as much as a visible pivot, where as the fighter is stepping with the punch to achieve a better position upon the punch landing. Or it can be as little as a shift in weight just to maintain balance upon throwing a big shot.
jeeze if your in a street fight power and technique arnt that important, its quick reactions and no hesitation, and it does sometimes help if u have a base fighting stance like boxing
@Lambretta1995 doesn't matter huh? lol. tell ya what. next time you get in a street fight, try and make it against a pro boxer. run in there windmilling punches like most so called street fighters do. watch the pro defend himself, relax and stay calm, then when you leave yourself open because you have no technique, watch yourself get knocked the fuck out. then come back and reply to your own comment about how power and technique aren't important. lolol
@bandit7498 ok... not exatly what im saying, i am a boxer. and i shouldnt have put technique just power what i meant to say is that technique makes the power. but the main factor in winning a street fight is staying calm, keeping your hands up not trying any fancy stuff and to throw the first power punch, and quit the hatin
Useful info for a beginner, covers basics and emphasises repetition, both of which are key. All wannabe hard men out there, try to find holes in your opponent's defense, not in McDowell'sexcellent videos. Tough guys, and I don't mean mere street thugs I mean smart ones, study techniques and ask themselves whether they're beneficial to them and how they can apply them.
What's with all the youtube badasses who are boxers/mma fighters but don't have a single fight vid up? I'm by no means the next fight phenomenom, I just live around a lot of punk kids who will rob you or sometimes beat you up just cause they're drunk. The basics this guy has taught me have already saved me a whuppin once. This guy's not trying to teach you how to be the next Mayweather, he's teaching you basics. I bet most you guys don't even know what it's like to throw a punch with gloves on.
I think this is the best punch to use for a liver shot. Too many people try to hit the head when you have that big old vulnerable liver just sitting there begging to be hit. Go ahead and break your hand on someone's skull if you want, but a punch to the liver takes the fight out of a guy pretty quick and it's usually a nice soft place to dig your fist.
I love reading some of the comments for these tutorial vids of these tough-guy internet kids who think they know better than this guy.
Everyone wants to be a UFC fighter now, you're all tough shit because you watch the fights every week huh? Boxing has alot more skill and precision involved, although UFC isnt without it brutal charm.
I bet almost all of you have never been punched in the face before and you still think you have paper skin and glass bones, yet you still try to act tough here.
@xXFocusRecord Did you just say mike tyson cant box? Dont let his pressure fighting approach confuse you into thinking its just some big brute wailing his fist in the air. Mike tyson was quick n strong and atleast was a good boxer for his time.
@reaperofgenocide Mike Tyson is a hybrid fighter, a mixture of different approaches. Classic boxer M Ali, Tyson's more like a smooth Frasier. Boxers dont stay on your chest.
It would be easier to call ahead and let them know you'd be trying to land that left hook instead of telegraphing so much.lol

I asked on another video, but I'm curious for some other opinions. When throwing a hook, are you knuckles meant to face the ceiling or the opponent? Mr. McDowell seems to throw his angled a bit, so I'm curious.
cet0708 1 year ago
Stylistic preference. I think most American gyms hook with the knuckles facing opponent?

doesn't look like he's pivoting on his left foot... so you don't get as much power.
TommyGun7111 1 year ago
@TommyGun7111 The pivot doesn't have to be exaggerated. It can be very subtle and be enough to land with authority. It can be as much as a visible pivot, where as the fighter is stepping with the punch to achieve a better position upon the punch landing. Or it can be as little as a shift in weight just to maintain balance upon throwing a big shot.
bandit7498 1 year ago
@bandit7498
i pivot. it gives you more power.
TommyGun7111 1 year ago
@TommyGun7111 I never said it didn't. I think I already gave a pretty good explanation of the pivot. Not going into it again.
bandit7498 1 year ago
jeeze if your in a street fight power and technique arnt that important, its quick reactions and no hesitation, and it does sometimes help if u have a base fighting stance like boxing
Lambretta1995 1 year ago
@Lambretta1995 doesn't matter huh? lol. tell ya what. next time you get in a street fight, try and make it against a pro boxer. run in there windmilling punches like most so called street fighters do. watch the pro defend himself, relax and stay calm, then when you leave yourself open because you have no technique, watch yourself get knocked the fuck out. then come back and reply to your own comment about how power and technique aren't important. lolol
bandit7498 1 year ago
@bandit7498 ok... not exatly what im saying, i am a boxer. and i shouldnt have put technique just power what i meant to say is that technique makes the power. but the main factor in winning a street fight is staying calm, keeping your hands up not trying any fancy stuff and to throw the first power punch, and quit the hatin
Lambretta1995 1 year ago
@Lambretta1995 what hatin'? lol. funny guy

Useful info for a beginner, covers basics and emphasises repetition, both of which are key. All wannabe hard men out there, try to find holes in your opponent's defense, not in McDowell'sexcellent videos. Tough guys, and I don't mean mere street thugs I mean smart ones, study techniques and ask themselves whether they're beneficial to them and how they can apply them.
madmax8903 1 year ago

Go ahead and break your hand on someone's skull if you want, but a punch to the liver takes the fight out of a guy pretty quick and it's usually a nice soft place to dig your fist.
ericarmstrong1 1 year ago
I love reading some of the comments for these tutorial vids of these tough-guy internet kids who think they know better than this guy.
Everyone wants to be a UFC fighter now, you're all tough shit because you watch the fights every week huh? Boxing has alot more skill and precision involved, although UFC isnt without it brutal charm.
I bet almost all of you have never been punched in the face before and you still think you have paper skin and glass bones, yet you still try to act tough here.

@wajida1 Mike tyson doesn't box, if you want to learn how to box watch pernell whittaker, or the sugar man
xXFocusRecord 1 year ago
@xXFocusRecord Did you just say mike tyson cant box? Dont let his pressure fighting approach confuse you into thinking its just some big brute wailing his fist in the air. Mike tyson was quick n strong and atleast was a good boxer for his time.
But pernell whitaker was great too.
reaperofgenocide 1 year ago
@reaperofgenocide Mike Tyson is a hybrid fighter, a mixture of different approaches. Classic boxer M Ali, Tyson's more like a smooth Frasier. Boxers dont stay on your chest.
xXFocusRecord 1 year ago
@xXFocusRecord Yeah he did have his mix of strength, agility, and inside fighting. But he was also a force to be reckon with in his day.

@reaperofgenocide When boxing picks up in the next 10 - 15 years you will see shorter stockier fighters influenced by his style.
