@SorceressRika well I really meant supergroup as a band like chickenfoot, you know, A band formed by a bunch of well-known musicians cuz many of the people in TSO did work with some pretty big bands like Savatage (of course), Megadeth, and Alice Cooper. but I guess that can work too \m/
Nothing is eternal. Stars will burn out, galaxies will die. The universe will expand until it rips itself apart as matter and energy fizzle into the night never to be seen again. Only the void of nothingness will be left, and it's reign shall be eternal.
This concept album raises an important point. If Beethoven had done nothing else, nothing at all, but live long enough to write the "Ode to Joy" which was his final symphony, would his life have been considered "worth it"?
And, more importantly, what does that mean to the many people who wonder why they are here on this planet?
To leave a comment on such a song would be pointless. The lyrics, the beutiful tune, everything speaks the magnitude of greatness this song forever will be. May it stand the test of time until Judgment day takes us all to our heavenly creator, and then may it still echo in our earthly memories.
Seriously, who the heck would dislike this song!?!?!?!? The five people (and hopefully no more will come) who did need to be strightened out and learn the true meaning of epic.
@Dolphin11742 They were probably metal and rap junkies. You know, the people with no taste in music. No offense if you like one of those genres, but they aren't that good.
@derfishy Hey, I tried to be as fair as possible. And you have to understand, most metal junkies wouldn't like this music because of how classical it is. If I "weren't thinking," I'd be saying that all metal and rap fans are stupid and should be shot, but I tried to be fair by the general consensus. Granted, the "no taste in music" thing was a little far, but screaming into a mic or just talking blandly in a beat isn't my idea of art.
@chaos396 Then why do you like TSO? They're metal. In fact. Metal as a genre is one of the more complex and intricate as far as the technical aspects go. At least, more so than the "copy drum/bass beat #15 at tempo x" nature of most pop and rap. Even so, pop and rap do carry SOME sort of message, however simple or complex it may be, and the definition of art is something that conveys a message from the artist to the audience. Is something not art just because you dislike its aesthetic qualities?
@perciusmandate Firstly, TSO is rock (metal) classical. The violins really make it. Secondly, there is plenty of art I don't like but is still art. I also know that if I continue this discussion I will offend a lot more people, so I'm gonna stop right now.
@chaos396 Look: listen to progressive and symphonic metal - they favor clean vocals, orchestras, choirs, and heavy guitars. The only commonality about metal is a focus on electric guitars.
Believe me: I used to steer clear of metal and refused to listen to it, but then my sib brought back a Kamelot album, and my opinion of the genre was forever changed. It wasn't screaming, but operatic singing with orchestral elements and clear harmonies.
@chaos396 You forget that Jon Oliva, main-songwriter of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a metal singer. Metal is the best music on earth right now, because it is lyrically intellectual and musically ambitious.
@TDGRoach Actually I didn't forget that: I never even knew that! Even so, TSO ISN'T pure metal, as I said previously. Just metal, and I will stick by my opinion until I decide otherwise, isn't that good. Sorry guys, I will continue to be unreasonable with this, so you might as well stop trying.
This is the best song I have ever heard. It brought me to things much further than tears will take me. I loved it so much, I kept repeating it louder and louder until I nearly bursted my eardrums. No matter what it contemplates, this song is eternal.
I have cried over this song it brings all my feelings and Memories into one place, this is such a dramatic and emotional Track, absolute magic, thank you.
I really don't understand how some people don't like these kind of songs. I only have 2 cds but i am a total fan. Seen them 2 times in concert and they were both GREAT!!! Ps: Violinest is CRAZY AND AWESOME TSO RULES!
@dkarwashan I have been to a concert of them in Amsterdam, was freaking awesome and indeed the violinest was crazy xD he need 3-4 new sticks cus he destroyed them all xD :D was a great, best concert ive ever been 2

@KierausW Yeah, that L in their logo looks like an S. Upon further inspection it is an L. I didn't realize this till you mentioned it. Thanks for the info.
@KierausW Er...no it's not. I'm surprised a "MAJOR FAN" wouldn't consider that when their official website displays the name as "Trans-Siberian Orchestra" that perhaps they know what their own name is? The "L" you are referring to that appears on many of their albums and other merchandise I believe is an archaic form of an S with some artistic flair. Their newest album that a "major fan" would certainly be aware of, Night Castle, uses a different font and the S is very clear.
Sorry guys, I woulda responded earlier, but the second after I clicked "dislike", just to see what would happen, my house was hit by lightning, and it shorted out my computer. I only just got out of hospital. I've learned my lesson: NEVER AGAIN will I dislike a TSO song.

This whole album is basically the soundtrack to the greatest rock opera that never was. Just like when you listen to the CD for Phantom or even The Wall or any musical, there are parts that don't happen in song. Conversations, descriptions, backstory, ect. Those are all in the liner notes instead, because even the TSO stage show did not include them.
@boneymcdead You do realize that the album comes with liner notes that detail the entire story right?
Mephistopheles is the devil, come to collect B'thoven's soul but offers to let B'thoven go to heaven if B allows Meph to remove all of his music from the world.
With the help of Fate and Twist, B signs a contract to only give Meph his just finished 10th Symphony. When Meph is unable to destroy it, it's revealed that B'thoven is the second child born to his parents named Ludwig von Beethoven.
@boneymcdead (cont'd) Since the contract specifically spells out that Meph has all rights over the first born's music (of which there was none) Meph leaves in a fit of rage.
Fate explains that Meph was lying to B in the beginning when Meph said that B must go to hell for his sins. B's soul was destined for heaven all along, where he will be reunited with Theresa.
Meph has no idea that B had an older brother who didn't survive, and he had no particular part in his death.
This and "The Dark" are very close to me. What is Eternal touches on what i wonder every day... and "the dark" speaks to me. Especially the guitar solo... i havent heard a guitar sing to me in forever..
The ending of the Overture song from here and (I think) Midnight (if that's track 2) hold a special place in my heart, because two of my muses (writer thing don't ask lol) have come out of those songs... another came out of a song from The Lost Christmas Eve. I love TSO's music, it's just so epic and it's hard -not- to get lost in it and let your mind wander and just envision what plays out in the music so clearly... ^^;; or maybe that's just me...
Kick Mephistopheles in the nads and run away. Sure, you're doomed, but you can always tell people in the afterlife how you kicked death/the devil (I forgot which one he is :\) in the nuts.
@TakuunX mephisto is neither the devil or death, he is the demon prince of deal. he accomplishes whatever it is that one has sold their soul for, then he returns to collect their soul.
@rebsofthesacredheart: Mephistopheles (Mephistophilus, Mephistophilis, Mephostopheles, Mephisto and variants) is the demon in the Faust legend.
Shakespeare used the name as a synonym for Satan in the Merry Wives of Windsor, and ever since he has appeared as the Devil himself.
In this opera Meph has dominion over hell and control over the souls which are sent there. M tells B that he must accept the deal to save his soul from hell.
B had no prior deal with him. Fate gave B his music.
both What is Eternal? and Mephistopheles' Return will always have a special place in my heart... the youtube rating system does not have enough stars to properly rate these two songs...
@DarkRaven4649: Did you know that 3 of the 4 founding members of TSO originally worked together in the metal band Savatage? (Savatage isn't very good though. They were like a Judas Priest wannabe type thing.)
Kinda like Glen Danzig, Jon Oliva decided he'd rather work in a goth-rock opera style.
@its419able dont knock Savatage, those guys are pretty amazing, and TSO covers a lot of their stuff, not the other way around. so what they didnt make it on the mainstream charts, their loss, our (metalheads) gain.
@arrowisb - I'm not knocking Savatage. They spent many years building up a small but loyal fanbase who hated the new sound, and their ambitions were often curtailed by executive meddling. Gutter Ballet was their best album with such an extreme focus on influences beyond the power/speed metal they had played for years.
The next Savatage album (Streets) and many more after that were basically just what TSO became famous for, but even Jon Oliva admits no one listens to them.
This is a dramatic song about Brutus killing Caesar.

both What is Eternal? and Mephistopheles' Return will always have a special place in my heart... the youtube rating system does not have enough stars to properly rate these two songs...

Ah, beautiful song, this. Excellent voicework, excellent music, blah-blah-blah-all-the-other-excellences-that-make-up-TSO. 10/5.
