Van is a great blues singer, but he should give up on the pretensions of being a saxophonist because he is way below the level of the rest of his musicians and his own singing. He needs to stick with pros like Candy Dulfer and Pee Wee Ellis who can play the shit out of the horn to avoid lameass blowing like he puts out on this cut.
@kingpleasure As a person who ADORES Van and spent a small fortune following him around to attend the "Astral Weeks" concerts, I have to totally agree with you. The piano, the guitar, the saxophone, the drums, I just chuckle when he plays them. His harmonica playing is fantastic though.
@kingpleasure Sure, compared to guys like Candy and Pee Wee, Van's sax playing isn't quite up to par, but he can still hold his own, a great example being Tell Me What You Want off Too Long in Exile. No doubt it's his voice and lyrics that are most captivating, not to mention his harmonica and guitar playing... so I like to think of the fact he can blow on the sax a bit too, well just as a nice bonus.
never heard van do this number before, one of my fav. blues songs, he kills it vanstyle obviously, but brilliant ,funny iwas watching the last waltz 2 hours ago, the fim by scorcese about the band ,and vans performance kills
We all need more Van, without all the hype...the man has put on some remarkable shows that the ppl know nothing of...check him out be4 it's too late!!!
You will not find a better version of this song anywhere...and it has been done a fair few times ;)

What a genius voice when he sings, but when he plays the Saxophone it sounds like a Kazoo... I like John Platania´s Solo !
