During their performance at the 1992 English Reading Festival, the band experienced "technical difficulties with their audio equipment" and were forced to stall their set. Quickly, the crowd grew restless and began throwing mud onto the stage. Lead vocalist Donita Sparks removed her tampon on-stage and threw it into the crowd yelling "Eat my used tampon, fuckers!". Sparks has remained unapologetic about the incident. It is considered the "most unsanitary pieces of rock memorabilia in history".

Really great grunge band here. But, like so many other great grunge bands Screaming Trees and Posies just to name a few others they were overshadowed by the enormous bands of the era like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. As a result, they never received due credit.

@JefPorkins You're right you know... RIP Larissa Strickland. L-Seven opened for The Birthday Party in the early 80s in Detroit. They still had the Birthday Party setlist when I hung out with them in the early 90s. What a let down to find out it's the Sub Pop band.

it's not a rumor. she did it for sure at more than one show. i was at one of them - reading festival. except the tampon didn't make it to the crowd and got stuck in the scaffolding around the stage and stayed there for all of next act's set (nick cave) :)

The "used" tampon rumor is only partially true, not having quite reaching it's full potential at absorbancy, the fan who was hit in the face with it put it up for sale on ebay at a discount, Parris Hilton bought it but was never able to use it due to it's pohibition in jail, she gave it to Brittany Spears who wanted it, but couldn't keep it in long enough due to her lack of panties. The latest leed is that Hanah Montana has it but isn't sure where it goes :)
