@Honda599Girl Heya! My action isn't super low but I think having brand new strings definitely helps as the older / duller they get makes it harder! You've got great bass videos BTW!
Nice video. I've been doing regular slap bass for some years now...never really taking it that seriously. I can play some chilis and bungle stuff. But this looks like a a good trick I've been missing. That extra percussive note could work wonders. Thanks for the lengthy explanation. Watching TV will never be boring again lol.
Are you doing a hammer on or something like what les claypool does in my name is mud? Watching this kinda makes my mind wander on what other kinds of things can be done with the left hand, its pretty much ignored when I try to develop a technique, thanks for the lesson and inspiration.
i recently figured it out. i think i has a lot to do with your bass. as far as the neck with or how high you strings are. another factor is the strings themselves. i reccomend ernie ball slinkys. but considering im in a finantial pinch now, i had to figure out a way to make do. i learned that if you rest your hand on the string and just move your thumb, you can mute it and make it sound better. also, instead of hitting the third or so fret, you can the very front of the fourth fret. good luck.
Sounds like you could be hitting too hand, try it more relaxed - and don't concentrate on hitting the whole fret line, even just the top is cool ... let me know how ya go ! Paul
@SENIORTACO101 maybe you're not muting the notes correctly... besides the left hand slap should have the same feel as the thumb slap, hit and let go, don't let the notes ring
Wow! That's really interesting. I have been playing bass for about a year, now but I have to admit that I don't know some of the proper techniques of bass playing. My bass is ready now and I am going to try the technique that you showed.
Do you need really low action to get a clean sound?

@paultaite Thanks Paul.
Maybe I was born without a left hand slap gene.
I just can't seem to do this.
It eludes me.
