this is a mahogany body Bolt with the stock carvin pickups....regular AP11 single coils in the middle and neck, and the C22 humbucker. This was the BEST sounding Strat style guitar I have EVER heard...and I have owned about 75 strats!
I appreciate all the kind words...I'll try to post some more videos soon.
Is that an alder body? Are those the twin blade humbuckers in the neck & middle? What's the bridge pickup? Fabulous sounding guitar! That Wilkinson trem isn't thin sounding. Sounds good.
I just ordered one of these with a mahogany body about 4 weeks ago and I still have about another 3 or 4 weeks til it arrives. Damn I wish I had a time machine!! lol
Damn, that thing has better tone than my '89 American Strat... gota love carvins! I got a '86 V220 as well and it sings, C22's on it... Awesome vid brotha!
I ordered a Bolt Plus and DC 127 in 2011 which I had to return because of unfixable fret buzz. The finish on both guitars, however, was excellent. Total shipping costs and a pro guitar set on the second guitar costs me over $400. That’s $400 out the window and good deal of time wasted. Disappointed since most the guitars at half the price like Ibanez seldom have bad fret buzz. Maybe I just got 2 lemons. Probably my fault for buying something over the mail w/o trying it first. Buyer be warned.
carvin now makes a tele type strat. with 3 singles, or HSS. its the TLB60, with a bolt on neck and a pickguard. comes with s60 alnico pickups. supposed to give the sweet strat tones. My carvin is set up like the one you are playing...I will sell my gibson before i sell my carvin. i payed more for the it, but by far carvin is better. also the gibson feels like im playing a 2X4. they still make the TL60 (neck through tele). . that new design for a headstock from Carvin looks stupid.
Hahaha...just read your comments on your regret at selling. Have to admit, I agree with you...favorited this vid and come back to it on occasion...your awesome playing definatley helps the cause bro. I have a Bolt and a TL60T and I think Carvin can do no wrong...the most satisfying playing experiance by far....can't get many past that 'big name' stigma though. Oh well, you can always order another! haha ...love the finish, by the way.
Well does look like a cool guitar but honestly, you cant sell off amazing skill like you have. Your playing would sound good on a twelve year old squire!
You made a big mistake selling that great sounding guitar. I learned a long time ago that we are brainwashed by the media and sometimes dont have the courage to be "different". A Carvin is a cool axe for proper that dont give a shit about hype and love quality. Enjoy your new Fender.
ive become really interested in carvin lately. these bolt guitars arent incredibly costly and if i can make mine sound half as good as yours does here, then theres no reason why one of these shouldnt be my next guitar.
i currently own an esp h1000 and it is pretty sweet, but i have always considered getting a carvin, but i would go with neck thru model cuz i no longer believe in bolt on necks and tremelo's anymore since i've owned my esp because it's the first the guitar i ever owned that had good tone and stays in tune. by the way that playing was awesome bro! :op
i just bought a carvin today but it doesnt say "bolt" on it anywhere. how do you tell if its a bolt? mine has the same looking pickups as this one and it has the little toggle switch by the volume knob. mine is a different color of course but it looks like this one only mine doesnt have the tremolo bridge. it has an ebony fretboard and graphite nut also. any help is appreciated.
ok ty. mine does have a bolt on neck. its not heavy at all either. its really nice to play and im glad i bought it. i just bought an american telecaster with an ash body and maple fretboard. between the 2 guitars i can get alot of sounds that ive always wanted. thanks again for clearing that up for me.
@clewi1091 You're Tele sounds sweet. I'm a bass player but I really like instruments in general. Carvin is all I've used for 20 years, with few exceptions. Although a jet black Ric would be cool.
i want a carvin but theres so many options to choose from what would look nice on a carvin just the color with fretboard, hardware knobs etc. i like dont like blue, green, funky lookin sunbursts. just pickup covers pick guards color fretboard headstock i like the infine logo hardwareknobs i like jumbo frets and wilkinson trems. but everybody give me good ones. thanks
very good demo! if this video doesnt make anyone believe that a Bolt can compete with any Strat, I dont know what will. I love mine, and its just about all i need i have others, but the Bolt can do it all. Great demo
the white pickguard sucks. change it to black and you'll have a really nice looking Bolt. Liked the playing alot tho; you're defintely in my band! (lessons, please)
To Chainsaw: pretty music, ugly guitar, word. Bought my first Carvin in 1975. Loved it. Have owned several, loved them all. Amps too. Went to the factory, it was great. I know my shit. Nub has CD out; do you? Sa-ite. Some like white pickguards. I don't. Usually. sometimes. depends.
Woo, touchy! CD's called Desperate Demos. Everytime you sit down with another guitar player you learn something new. Thus, lessons welcome. My opinion. Jimi was lefty. I started playin' cuz of Him. Let's bow our heads for a moment of silence. Oops, the tour bus is leaving! Layta!
hey man who cares what it looks like as long as it sounds good, right I mean look at Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar it looks terrible but it sounds so good...
you will hear different opinions from different people, but i dont really think its just all that great. its tone is really similar to alder, and i will admit while it sounds a little more refined, i personally think its just more expensive than what its worth. with koa you pay alot for the rarity and the beautiful appearance. If you want good tone at an appropriate price, look somewhere else. But you wont find a prettier wood.
Yep. Any USA custom made guitar usually cost between 2500 and 5000....usually. Carvin custom made guitars will cost, with juicy options, anywhere from 1200 to 2200. And I believe after reading reviews that 7 out 10 are shipped and you need to do very little setup.
You just answered my question. I thought for sure it was swamp ash finished in vintage yellow. Cause it looks so orange. I just got a CS3. Mahogany in deep brown stain. Almost looks like walnut. Just love it. Do yourself a favor and buy another Carvin. You wont be happy till you do. Trust me. I sold a DC400T about 5 years ago, and have not been happy with any fuckin guitar until I got another one myself. I know your pain.
That sounds absolutely amazing!!!! Holy crap! I'm looking for a strat style guitar and this is one I'm definately going to have to try. Absolutely killer playing. What other gear are you using in this?
You're right...I regret selling it! I know this sounds REALLLLLLLY stupid...but you know why I sold it? I think the headstock looked cheesy. Okay, Carvinites..CRUCIFY ME!!!! I own other carvins, but they all have the CT style headstock.
@jefbateman what headstock did it have? Cause the standard bolt headstock is the most standard, nice looking headstock I can think of dude. A CT headstock on a bolt is just plain wrong. On a CT, CT headstocks look great.
@jefbateman Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! noooooooooo!!!!!! Its all about the sound. I told my self long ago no matter how tough things got I would never sell my (good) guitars. ;..<
I actually agree with you on the headstock. I have considered buying the kit so I could reshape the head to my liking but I'm wanting an electric 12 string and already have 6's that I love.
@andysharifi Use the Tung oil finish that Carvin suggests. It's very easy to apply, it doesn't stink up the house like lacquer and looks very good. The kit gives instructions on how to do apply a Tung oil finish. Tung oil can be bought at the local hardware store. I was surprised at how nice my Carvin kit looked and that it is one of my top favorite guitars.
It's a mahogany body with a natural finish. I HATE that I sold this guitar...it was the absolute BEST sounding and playing strat style guitar I've ever had...and i have owned a LOT!
Got my Bolt being built right now. Same setup too (HSS), cept hardtail instead of the wilky. Watching this demo makes the wait for it even worse :) What amp were you using for the demo? I've got Carvin's Vintage 16 and a V3 combo that I'm dying to try out my Bolt with when it gets here. Sweet demo man. Thanks.
Nice Tone! I fixed my friends Highway One Strat by replacing it with a prewired pickguard from Carvin with a C22B humbucker in the bridge and 2 AP11 single coils. The tone is brighter than a stock Strat. I beleive it is because Carvin uses 500k pots and Fender uses 250k. The 250k pots are warmer and darker. After hearing his new sound I purchased a Bolt kit with Sperzal locking tuners and a humbucker. With shipping-$465- The best value for an American guitar. awhrecordings for complete review.
thanks for the complements, guys...the guitar is sold, and I regret selling it.
I've been playing a little more lately and have fallen in love with Ernie Ball Music Man guitars. I play through Bilco Electronics Amps and have a few pedals:Reverend Drivetrain II, Xotic BB Preamp, Robert Keeley modded tubescreamer, and just an 80's cheap ibanez modulation delay.
i am planing to buy bolt t and dc400c.Can you compare the carvin bolt with fender strat( about quality not the price..)Because im living in turkey both guitars are expensive.
Sure...I have played fenders and carvins for a LONG time and I worked in music retail for a while, too. In my opinion, the Carvins are a LOT more consistent than the Fenders...best for the money!
If you need quality Carvin has it. The guitar will stay in tune like you wouldn't believe. I can go a week without tuning it. The pickups have great Single Coil sound. If you want some crunch I would recomend getting a humbucker in bridge position. Also, with Carvin you get to choose your paint style, what color you want your pickups, cover style. Carvin is bang for the buck being sold Factor Direct. If it was sold third hand like Fenders the guitar would be over $1000.
what did u finish the guitar with?

what does the mini-toggle switch do?
metallideth83 2 years ago
if you get a humbucker in the bridge, it splits the coils in it, so you can simulate a single-coil sound.
If you get a Single Coil in the bridge, it acts as an always-on switch so you can get neck/bridge combinations or all three on at once.

What do you think of the bolt's neck? It's the only thing on that guitar i can't find anywhere online. What would you compare it to?

thanks for the complements, guys...the guitar is sold, and I regret selling it.

Both guitars fender and carvin bolt t 1400euro same price... it shouldnt be best for the money and for me... i need quality
