  • if they are anti-imperialists , why they use american dell computers !! fucki'n ASS HOLES

  • @napalcatraz BECAUSE they are made in China ass hole.

  • The sign at 1:00 is saying "Sales & Customer Service" but why in English? Aren't North Korea a closed country, it's not like foreign people would visit and want to buy a phone...

  • Fuck comunismus ...u dirty fucking bastards motherfucker...i hope u die

  • the video uploader is from north korea! the CIA should track his ip address and send a predator drone to his house

  • Normal people cant have cell phones. You have to be part of the chosen ones.

  • @Dusty696969 800,000 people are as of now subscribed to Koryolink. That's a lot of "chosen ones".... Idiot. telecomasia . net / content / n - koreas - koryolink - passes - 800k - subs

  • @policestory Im glade you believe that. Outsiders can't even use there cell phone there, unless they buy there cell phones or get a sim card for there's and they charge a shit load of money. So if everyone "could" get a cell phone, they couldn't afford that off there rationing. They cant even call out side NK. Hell they cant even call outside the capital. Maybe you should move to NK since its so great. Hell maybe the Great Leader will let you wipe his ass.

  • does anyone know what network frequency they run on? I assume it would be UMTS 2100

  • Let me guess, Kim Jong Il wanted an iPhone.

  • Cell phones in north korea? I don't buy it.

  • As usual, the haters are in denial! Why does that not surprise me. LOL!

  • I wonder if SPRINT 4G phones are compatible with koryolink's 3g network XD

  • This movie was made by North Korea citizen living in Japan (在日朝鮮人, 재일조선인)

Anyway, although I am Japanese, I dont have mobile phone.

    I envy North Korean!!!!

    지상의 락원 조선민주주의인민공화국 만세!!!!

  • Poor people :(( they have dreams and they want a normal life but that motherfucker dear leader killed all their dreams

  • north koreans knows how to use "DELL" computers...wow

some new shit i learned today...XD

  • Dream on North Koreans, those are not for you guys. They are for the elite class.

  • If you jailbreak a phone , you'll get a life sentence. Period!

  • Only party people allow to have cell phones and it only work in small area where the cell tower that work for that cell phone. There are no repeater system spead out in DPRK. It might not work across the river (short range).

  • here's my question: how accessible is this service to the average north korean? i'm sure one wouldn't be allowed to have one before an extensive background check is done.

  • That guy at 1:30 has a Huawei U120 mobile phone.

  • @IonutzEne

haha the North Koreans are using Chinese phones... with menus in Englishand operating systems designed by a small firm from Finland.

  • WindowsXP made by the delightful capitalist pigs in America. Thanks for your service to capitalism North Korea ^_^

  • When I was in south korea I couldnt use my iphone unless I paid a hefty fee to get my IMEI registered with SK telecom. If I go to North Korea, can I use global roaming or otherwise rent or buy a sim card to use there? I would like to make international calls back to NZ and sms my dongpyo in NK. Thanks

  • @ndog37 Good news for you, Koryolink simcard and phone can be bought at Sunan International Airport in Pyongyang for foreigner's convinience.

  • hey how do i get a koryolink phone? how much does it cost in USD for the base model?

  • They probably implemented it so Kim Jong Il could have an iPhone.

  • Win 7

  • Since you're only allowed to call people within your own village and the subscription to do that is more than the average NK montly income these aren't very useful.

  • These cellphones are legal to have and very easy to acquire.

The only thing you are allowed to do with their cellphone is to do an ECHO TEST. you are also allowed to call your own number too!

That is the FREEDOM you will get from NK!

  • Can you Kim John ill me now?

  • American Dell computers?

  • @NWguy83 And, as seen in other 'life in NK' vids, American HP computers, too, with preloaded American Windows XP. Dell and HP are made in China, Shenzhen, I think. The PRC has free trade [for hard currency] with almost no restrictions for "American" products into the DPRK. Besides, Dell and HP don't really have much control over their Chinese partners; like, what, are they going to have their products built somewhere else; like USA [hahahaha]? That's not likely.

  • probably records every text and conversation you have!

  • @kimhs616 So may I ask why they can't do international calls? If you can give me ONE good reason why I should not be allowed to talk to people in other countries, I might believe you.

  • @jwh30385 You just replied to Kim Jong Il's grandson (kimhs616), it was on the news lately.

  • @0:23: Inauguration Ceromy of the 3G mobile communication service.

    WTF....

  • people have have cell phones there now? o-o

  • im sure every phone is bugged. A mere word saying a word US or kill kim jong ill would send troops crashing to your home. Im also sure there are no international calls either.

  • isn't it illegal to hv cell phones in north korea?

  • @esteetey only for tourists and I guess, only partymembers are able to get cellphones :)

  • @Bluedino549 They take your phone once you cross into the DPRK plus it's crazy hard to get a visa if your American.

  • @OrganicPoptart91 Yepp, as I said, they are 'illegal' for tourists. :D

My Parents were able to get to NK because they had their passports from East-Germany with them.

And their new germany passports as well. My parents told me, there were still people speaking german due to the relationship between NK and East-Ger. Even their subways are from former East-Berlin. ^^ Anyway, I've never guessed it was possible to get to NK being american...

  • @esteetey

    @thatamericankid

Technically no it's not illegal to have a cell phone. But if you buy one, you get sent to a work camp. Cell-phones are banned from use and Internet is Forbidden...

  • @OrganicPoptart91 then what the hell are we looking at on youtube right above us?

  • Has SAMSUNG and LG chips in it? MADE IN USA! cell phones but no cell towers? what good is condom with out girls? do you get it?

  • I'm pretty sure if north korea still exists in 2080 they would still be using the same cellphones that they showed in this video

  • LOL they even show North Koreans how to use a cell phone? Are they fucking serious?

  • international calls are banned punishable by death.

  • how come North Korea joined with Orascom why not smuggle cellphones from the south and do a reverse engineering? Same as applying chinese and russian technicians to create a mobile phone?

  • @Amoneth

Better the old school reverse engineering... then create cellphones under the ministry of state security haha...

  • the female model looks prettier than most actresses from the south

  • LOL, I wouldn't mind having the phone number for that beautiful woman at 1:49!

  • Does it come with a "No Motherland Without You" ringtone?

  • @whitedogsrule Yes. Popular Korean songs are available as mobile phone tones.

  • @atiu88 the next exploit of iphone 4 by steve jobs itune

  • @whitedogsrule

    it is a free download

  • i see in the video they not even show 3g capabilities such as video call and mobile internet... here in my country even countryside has 3g, HSDPA moreover!! This is just another propaganda by Mr. Kim Jong Ill...

  • "Can you hear me now?"

  • So... I can call smb from DPRK?

  • Thought the spy radio in each kitchen in the capital was enough, guess Kim decided he wanted to have mobile spies lol

  • Comment removed

  • One other question: who's going to use it? Kim Jong Il and his posse?

  • @tokyotowerrr ha ha ha ... Ha

Thanks for your original cia-inspired humor

  • @tokyotowerrr There was a pretty good doc about NK done by a Chinese reporter. She had a lot of access since China and NK are currently on friendly relations. She talked about their cells and the plans and said it was very expensive and you have to save up for it for a good while. So probably the party elite use it the most. People who live in Pyongyang have the salary for it. She showed people around talking on cells.

  • @tokyotowerrr She said that foreigners can rent out phone's if they want while in NK since you have to turn over your phone before entering the country. I'm pretty sure they have their own NSA.

  • Windows XP! Made by Microsoft :)

  • useful idiots seating at the front.

  • @manoynav

You said it pal........, as ever with the Totalitarians, useful fucking idiots.........

    Heil Maobama!

  • @equinoxranch You're an idiot and just proved it by your comment. If Obama was anything like Mao or Kim Jong-Il you wouldn't even be able to view this and say that pathetic shit. So yes hon you're a pathetic idiot. You can still say that shit without getting arrested. Moron.

  • This is all a lie. Comunist propaganda. Lie, lie, lie.......Yarkkk, yob....

  • @singelo1000 Lie lai laiii lie it is a LIE! DPRK poisoned the net with hallucinates!!! Don't believe in your senses!!!!!!

  • would it be affordable????

  • Politics, propaganda aside.... Girl @ 1:49-1:53 HOT!

  • There is always this bunch of idiots commenting against whatever happens in DPRK.

This time they say whatever stupidities their dads had taught them. They don´t even notice that in their countries, their governments charge taxes for the occupation of the land that they think that their dads own. As a matter of fact there is not a single country in the world free of taxes...

  • @jnovais2 But socialism usually will result in higher taxes.

  • @jnovais2

    dads??

  • @china6786note yes dads paps moms cias dias usas OK?

  • you can afford it probably only if you dad is a general in the army

  • now, kim il sung will have an insight in korean people`s thoughts.

  • what's the use of a 3G network when they dont even have to use roaming=.=

  • What the people say about North Korea is right. North Korea is the best Korea!

I wouldn't mind taking a Cleveland Steamer over there for a vacation!

  • lol the imperialist technology, Microsoft windows haha

  • 3g in north korea? how much does it cost?

  • @ejecthunter

The price for everything that's just a bit advanced, is, of course: your life! Pay!

  • They do have cellphones in North Korea now. Don't be arrogant and ignorant. Educate yourself. Shanghai makes them just for the DPRK. China attempts to modernize and aid DPRK to make it more stable. Basic law of economics and politics is the better the economy and welfare of the nation, the more stable and better the politics.

The phones are from Shanghai and they cost either 3 weeks or 3 months of salary, i forget honestly. If anyone really cares, I'll go check for the correct datum.

  • @ComradeHowell

The 3G network is censored as well, only websites in the DPRK are allowed. And yes, the do have "internet." It is an intranet system where only websites the government built are accessed. Only within the DPRK can you access them, for it is intranet.

  • @ComradeHowell

calling one arrogant and ignorant is pretty funny. You see, when there was a cold war, countries behind the iron curtain were rumored in west to be like in middle age. Many tourists from the west that came to my country were almost expecting wooden huts, people starving and women not knowing what a bra is.

Indeed, that was not true. BUT! DPRK is a worse story. A hell worse story. Some rumors may be just rumors, but most of them are, sadly, true.

  • @HergotH01

Do you have any real evidence based on what you are saying about the rumors? ComradeHowell is right. INVESTIGATE FOR ONCE before you post a comment and trying looking like a know-it-all but indeed you look like an arrogant and ignorant guy like those others bellow.

And yes they do got cellphones because china provides them and also internet... China makes commerce with them....considering their close relationship they got.

So for the next time investigate before speeaking nonsense.

  • @kaiserxblue

What do you consider as real evidence? The state official reports? Or the reports of the emmigrants, dissidents, or by simple buisness travellers?

I have read a lot about it. And it is the basically the biggest shithole in the world, crushing human spirit and freedoms in the ways that were rare even in the soviet era. My country went through the communism too. So i am interested in this topic. And what is going THERE is something worse. Much worse.

  • @ComradeHowell Actually, I think everybody's cellphones are from China, if not Shanghai. I've had a Motorola, Samsung and LG cellphone and they're all made in China. Is the Koryolink phone an OEM, or a rebranded other brand?

And for you phone fashionistas, your Apple iPhone is made in China, too.

  • @whitedogsrule actually, iPhone is made in Taiwan

  • @ComradeHowell China helps the DPRK because they share a border with them and don't want an unstable neighbor. The Chinese have a problem with NK people crossing the border to find menial work at very low wages as illegal aliens. Kind of like USA and Mexico, sort of. The last thing they need is a million NK people streaming across the border in search of a job paid for with food alone. NK people are educated and work hard, China should do joint ventures and light industry in the DPRK.

  • They never had cellphones. The last guy didn't even know how to carry the phone when talking.

  • @samp987

They're new. They do have them. Want to see the sources not from the DPRK? I'm not pro-DPRK, I'm just very tired of the ignorant and uneducated responses to this video.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah right cell phones in North Korea are not allowed periodn you'll get excecuted or sent to a labor camp for carryong one! ugh this country must think everyone outside North Korea is just really really stupid!

  • The living hell in the planet.

Many people are suffering in the prison camp by the reson of that they are against Kim's dynasty.

Kim jongil should be ousted by their people and North Korea should open the door to outer world.

  • @cyk90703 I´m feeling that I am living hell of USA.

  • hot girls :)

  • if information flow freely, then , people will find out all the truth about the world , peace will return to Korea , Kim JongIl 's eveil deeds will be exposed soon

  • 0:40 I know who that lady is, that's the widow of Jerry Wayne Parrish.

  • There was a saying in times when commies ruled in my country, reflecting true reality of the time.

Everyone has job. Although everyone has job, nobody is working. Although nobody is working, plan is done on 100 and more%. Although the plan is done on 100 and more %, there is nothing in the shops. Although there is nothing in the shops, everyone has everything. Although everyone has everything, everyone steals. Although everyone steals, nothing is missing anywhere...

    ... and so on

  • @HergotH01

    Which country were you in?

  • @ComradeHowell

formerly czechoslovakia, nowday czech republic and slovak republic.

  • Kinda funny...they try not to be like us capitalists, yet here they go with cell phones!

I read that cell phones used to be banned in the DPRK!

Guess they realize they'll need to get a little modern to survive existence as a crapped-up country.

    It's almost hypocritical.

  • 2 bad less then 5% of North Koreans can own one

  • Its not that difficult. They made up a contract with a private company to build the network. They offer the cellphone calls for high prices and the revenues are shared between the government and the company.

  • probably better than Telcel lol

  • PROBABLY BETTER THAN AT&T.

  • lies

  • I thought mobile phones were illegal in NK.

  • they wanted you to think that..

  • @tmavomodry : For a long time they were. Now they're not. An Egyptian firm (Orascom -- look them up on wikipedia) built the network. But it's still only a very small proportion of the NK population that has access to the new mobile phone network.

  • Another proof that communism and juche doesn't work. Giving into international cell phone producers, and Egyptian business moguls to satisfy the people.

  • I admit, that's pretty interesting, and good for North Koreans. However, who is Kim Jong-Il to tell people they can't make international calls?

  • "Almost everyone"? There were only 19,000 subscribers in NK at the end of March 2009. Not saying you're lying, just saying it sounds like you got the Pyongyang tourist package. Things look pretty nice when you see what they want you to see.

  • @jwh30385

19,000 is quite a bit, as I am sure the lower end of the elite, the elite themselves, and the rich in Pyongyang have them. That tallies to about 19,000 right off the bat. Remember, Pyongyang is basically for the privileged.

  • does at&t work in dprk?

  • LOL, they use Microsoft Windows, which is a US product :")

  • and dell pcs lol

  • the questions are: how the hell they got it?

  • @AFN1991 and knowning North Korea I'm sure they've claimed to have invented the cell phone -_-

  • @AFN1991

    The phones are from Shanghai.

    Research for once.

  • @AFN1991

samsung and htc both have manufacturing plants there, it wouldnt be to hard to backward engineer 4 year old cellphone tech that is solely tower based without satellites

  • @AFN1991 through their socialist work you dump!

  • @AFN1991 I heard a story that Orascom got this contract in exchange of completing the building of the Ryugyong Hotel. Orascom is a large company, and it has a construction division too.

  • @AFN1991 dont believe everything cnn tells you

  • LOOOL.. Juche my ass.. lololol

  • 주로 누가 구입하는가?

  • okay.. an average north korean person serriously cant afford it. it is 1 years of their salary to buy one of those which is 3500 won per month. that means an average north korean survives on 28usd per month which is 1 dollar or less a day!!!!!!!

  • Sweet I'll get one of those phones imported to me

  • whats the name of the song?

  • IT'S FOUR DIFFERETN SONGS.

  • I have just been to NK. Our main guide and the bus driver had cell phones. The network was only for internal use, not for calls abroad. Tourists get their phones sealed and are are not allowed to break the seal until they are outside NK.

  • in Sweden we have 4G

  • yeah well fuck sweden

  • Only the elitist of the elite class in North Korea will afford this.

  • but in North Korea the people can't use the cell phones.....

  • I also wonder if this network will have exclusive iPhone rights in North Korea :D

  • Haha, they're so anti-US that they have the British spelling of "centre" on the front of the building at 0:46.

  • I must admit, Koryolink's logo is nice...

  • Propaganda at DPRK's finest. A full on network built for 1% of their people. What was the Egyptian company thinking to invest in such a little ROI.

  • I think the cost of setup is reduced significantly as they don't have to pay for forced labour. Also, the fat dictator can now use phones to keep his generals loyal(by giving them phones as incentive).

  • @calfullerton Brainwashing is not possible around here... Brainwashing first of all, needs some brain.. Anyway... Obama! Faier ze Misseles!!

  • Idiotic Americans (not all) you have no idea what you are talking about.

The ones who are given PROPAGANDA but don't realise it, are YOU!

Sure, most people in DPRK cannot afford a mobile right now. But the goal is an equal society for all, and mobiles will become more and more common.

They do not put bark in the bread! It was a short period in the 90s

Their trouble is they were not prepared to go it alone at the end of the USSR. They are threatened by the US and have to spend on defense.

  • i agree with you at some points. but their leader seems to have many problems. their next leader will do some challenges for the nation, to be like china or vietnam. we have to watch them not to fail, again. current leader did try once in the early 2000s, but failed. his beaurocrats didn't welcome the seoul business ways. i think korean-chinese and hongkongese business men will do better next time. the next leader knows the hongkong customs and have some connections as well.

  • I doubt most North Koreans will be seeing phones anytime soon. It's not necessarily a matter of money, although North Korea are certainly pretty short on that.

The main reason is that the masses aren't considered politically reliable enough to be trusted with one. Phones have always been prohibited without government permission.

Those who get one are party officials and political elites who've ingratiated themselves with the regime.

  • Equal society for all? You truly think that? There are still labor camps for families whose relatives somehow disrespected their "great leader." Children are shorter in NK then in SK because of malnutrition. The people have one news source and it is directly controlled by the government. In the meantime, Kim Jong Il has an extensive library of movies and tons of food available every day. Doesn't sound equal at all to me. Elitists get all the benefits while the people starve.

  • North Koreans are threatened by their leadership and their leadership ONLY. If I'm fed propaganda, please tell me why when going to NK as a tourist, I can't rent a car and go where I want, I can't see what I want to see, I can't leave my hotel room without a guide, I can't bring my own cell phone without getting it confiscated, my passport is confiscated, I can't talk to people in the countryside, and I'm not allowed to question ANY of this. Until you can answer this, you have zero credibility.

  • @jwh30385 : Hi, I have an offer to work there, can you please tell me more about work and life there in NK?

  • SO TRUE!!

When I went to North Korea, I had the same experience. All I was thinking was "I hope I'm going to come out of this alive" after they took my passport and then I thought later on in the week "What the hell are they so edgy about if their country is meant to be so great and prosperous as the Tv broadcasts say so?". What were they trying to hide from simple westerners? Do they think the rest of the world doesn't know that they are neck high in shit? lol

  • yeah well if it's propaganda that we get from our government, then why can't I speak to someone in North Korea about it over one of those mobile phones that I see in the TV broadcast?

99% of North Koreas people will not get mobile phones because their communist government, or ANY government, doesn't trust it's own people! The biggest difference between communism and capitalism is that under capitalism, you can speak out against the government and NOT get sent to a labor camp or get killed.

  • Good day,

From your command of language, I guess your education level is below college, and your "wipe you out over and over" is like a kid. A desperate one, though.

If I were in your situation, I would try to find something more constructive to do, rather than having hatred feeling towards a developing country who finally has 3G mobile phones.

    Please have a nice time.

  • bad day,

someone gave a negative thumbdown on my comment and i believe that person is someone associated with that dwarf kim jong ILL...if i were in your situation, WAKE UP! coz all that appears above is PROPAGANDA!

  • @trespasserinhk North Korea isn't just any "developing country who finally has 3G mobile phones", but a country that systematically runs Nazi-style concentration and extermination camps. Anyone criticizing North Korea for this is in their full right to do so.

  • I think it was mexican.

  • I hope they realize every frequency transmission is intercepted with pre-ww2 technology.

  • THEY CAN CALL SOUTH KOREA!

  • Can they really?

  • no they cant! i was just craking up... this video is a big purpose only for propaganda! a louse propaganda too even in this video cannot be seen.

  • LOL!

Yeah, I know, I was thinking the same exact thing.

  • this was simply a LOUSY propaganda! a kid can even say this video SUCKS!

  • Aww I love how DPRK takes care of their people!!!

  • Danny, the DPRK only "takes care of" a small group of people who protect Kim Jong Il from coup d'etat. In return, he gives them food, housing, furniture, and now cell phones. 90% of this nation does not
