  • ONLY A FAGGOT HATES CHEAP TRICK...LOL

  • At 4:10 is Rick giving his guitar to Dick Clark??? If so Wow!! A great gift to a great guy! I would imagine Mr. Clark was very happy to receive it!

  • No matter what era, Cheap trick was great. Great vocals, catchy tune, they should be in the hall.

  • 'Tonight It's You' is a really great tune. 'Rock All Night' was good too. I think what most fans perceive as the 80's CT lull was that they just couldn't accept Jon replacing Tom. Jon's a fine musician no doubts there, but it was Tom's counterpoint bass playing against Bun E.'s bouncy pocket that was the original chemistry that drove the guitars and vocals to rock & roll nirvana. Just had a chat w/Bun at a drum clinic. He's such a regular guy he makes you forget he's a ROCK GOD.

  • I had this album in the 80s. I liked it a little, but I thought it sounded a bit corny and juvenile - and wondered if the band members felt silly performing the songs. It also seemed like the production was being pressed too far toward the "Twisted Sister / Cinderella" glam band stuff that was beginning to get on the air. Late 80s were not kind to Cheap Trick, they had to follow too many dictates from the record execs to get published.

  • Hey this song is pretty cool. I've never heard this one before.

  • If I was Robin's sister, there'd be incest going on!

  • love ya Danny, but your assessment of these two great albums is WAY off. I love the old 80's lip synched shows, Rick FINALLY gets his jacket off and has no picks on his mic stand. Travesty!

  • amazing... I wonder how old I was then.. I don't see a date.. but no wonder I never got into them.. sorry..

I love them now though and super bummed that I missed them in their and my prime time.

  • 1985! ;-)

  • Robin's one of the best at lipsynching.

  • dude i went here they were pretty good

  • haha back in ussr... i love them they're so beatles and so themselves too .. =)

  • Insert long dark haired bass player here.

  • I have the Doctor on LP I wore out several copies of standing on the edge on cassette.

  • My favorite song off of Standing On The Edge.

  • Love cheap trick, but had never heard this one. I liked it.

  • What's wif all the cranky comments...this is a cool song. Relax and enjoy =)

  • 3:10 is the ultimate disgrace.

    No Tom either.

  • 3:10 is the ultimate disgrace.

  • they tried to mash up all thier previous styles like She's Tight, California Man and Surrender and it just didn't quite workout the way they hoped. The chorus is what killed it for me.

  • I love the album the Doctor, I still have that shirt Rick is wearing and one with the cover of the Doctor as well. Aahhh the good ol days lol!

  • The Doctor album was the beginning of the end, that album sucks.

  • lol cool chic, great taste u got,,, lol SS55

  • I can see the Beatles doing this song.

  • I love CT am completelyconfused that Madonna is in RnR Hall of Fame and they are not (Hall of Shame is new name I understand) that said ROBIN less blush pls Man is more beautiful than most models

  • This is an era I missed. Rick looks great!

  • Whoever posted this: For me, it's very IRONIC that you didn't care for this album for this reason: Although I became a CT fan in 1979, it was the release of THIS album that I had decided that CT was my ALL-TIME FAVORITE BAND and they remain so to this day.

STANDING ON THE EDGE is in the running for MOST UNDERRATED CT album. I'm glad EVERY DAY that I chose CT as my all-time favorite band!

  • CT's my all-time favorite band, as well...While I will agree that 'Standing On The Edge' was underrated, I have to say I also think 'The Doctor', 'Busted', 'Woke Up With A Monster' and Cheap Trick '97' were AMAZING albums that hardly no one paid attention to...It's sad, really, 'cause they're still proving today that they are the BEST band ever, and Robin is the best vocalist ever:)

  • Robin at his sexiest.

  • Oooooo I I I I I like it when you talk talk talk dirty dirty to me

  • Yep. As said before THE Greatest American Rock Band.

BTW - This is not one of my 50 favorite Cheap Trick songs, but seriously, how many HOOKS can you pack into one song? (that radio stations ignored) Jeez Louise!

(For some of the biggest missed opportunities for hit singles see: Lap of Luxury - "Let Go" and "All Wound Up".)

  • I know radio should have picked up on this, you would think. I've always said this about Cheap Trick they are the American Beatles! Heck Heavens Falling, and the whole One On One record should have been HUGE!

  • OOO has highly underrated songs, but where this band was doomed was in their production; with the exception of their first album and ASU of course. RN himself says he wishes he had stood up to the studios who were running the show. P.S. Todd Rundgren wrote Heaven's Falling. Long live Trick!

  • This is on one of the best CT albums around... what a great band

  • The interesting thing about this band is that they just wanted to be working musicians ... just make money playing ... ultimately, that meant they had to adapt to every change in the music scene, every knucklehead who screwed them at the RCs, and oddball producers who didn't understand their music whatsoever. But, through it all, Cheap Trick kept playing. They are, by far and away, the best American rock band of all times and could have been bigger.

    FAX

  • This song is NOT a live performance - this is a totally lip-synched thing performed recorded music.

  • Wow yer a frickin' genius!!

  • Thank you! I knew my education did me some good . . .

  • A true American pop band.

And only the best of em come from Illinois!

  • I love this album and thought they were still on top of their game. Busted, The Doctor and Special One are the only records I hate. But even each of them has a gem or two.

  • Its easy to bag on mid-80's CT, but this album is underrated. "Tonight Its You" is one of the best songs they have EVER done, this song is killer, so is "How About You" and "Standing on the Edge" as well.

  • I agree. When the hell are they going to give this album and "One On One"etc... the remaster treatment?! And with soundtrack tunes,etc... as bonus tracks!!

  • ROBIN IS SO HOT :D ! <3

  • When I first heard this song I was blown away. I couldn't imagine why Epic didn't make an official video for it. This lip-synched performance doesn't do CT any favors. Robin,Robin,Robin....who dressed you and did your makeup. You're a little swishy here dude.

  • ...its considerably more than 10 people my friend! And CT is always good to their fans. I've met and hung out with these guys and they are way cool. Had a chat with Robin Zander about the high price of gas..very interesting.

  • Well, as one of the "10" people that loves these guys I can only say they are better than your favourite band, The Jonas Brothers. Get a life, Cheap Trick still kicks serious ass and they still sell out wherever they play.

  • This was not the kind of 80's that I preferred, so I lost track of CT then, and re-found them later. It does show how they have really been able to do various genres. It's really a matter of whether you like the style of music with which they are working. (This particular one doesn't do it for me.) Thanks Danny!

  • I like that girl on the left who goes crazy during this song! Does anyone have her #? I know she'll be 23 years older now but I'm cool with that!

  • Thanks for this! I have sooooo many Trick CD's, and I rarely listen to "Standing on The Edge". But this is a great video, and I've never seen it until now.

  • awesome video.don't get to find this vid very often. I first saw cheap trip in 1980, Fresno CA. Been in love with their music ever since. I can jam on my guitar several of their songs. I love um!!! Thanks for sharing

  • Very underrated song!!! Thanx for the clip!

  • alt.music cheap trick forever

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Hi Danny, just wanted to thank you for posting all these great Cheap Trick videos. I fell in love with this band on April 1, 1977 when they opened for The Runaways at the Santa Monic Civic Auditorium in California. I had never seen anything like them and I've followed their career ever since. What do you think of the "Rockford" cd???

  • My opinion about this era : always good tunes ( maybe less than 70's) ruined by bad productions (sound of the 80's). How many bands would be glad to appropriate some of the Cheap Trick bad tunes. And then, the 90's were a resurection. Danny, I'm asking you to make allowances.

And always thanks for your incredible stock of videos

  • I couldn't. It was over. We flirted a bit during Lap of Luxury, but that was it - until... 1997's Cheap Trick. The passion came back, as if it were our very first album together.

  • busted has a few killer songs as does woke up with a monster....yeah there were a few mediocre lp's but even those had their moments.....ah, everyone has their faves and their not-so-faves.

  • @DannyFnSaint fickle!

  • @aplaceinfrance early nineties where good but you also had the all the clone bands which frankly didn't have the songwriting skills of the people they where copying not to mention the beat to death use of octave riffs, guys trying to be kurt cobain, or alice in chains, rap music was still good, then you have the 2000's and sorry but mainstream music sucks 80 percent of the time

  • Standing On The Edge album.

One of the best songs by the "Brant era".

Do you have a live version of this one ?
