  • He is only 4 months old. I guess it takes years for them to grow. I use to have one that was about 6 inches but is died when it was 5 years old. My friend gave it to me and it was already fully grown, so thats why I am curious about how long it would take for them to grow. Thanks for the advice, I will certainly cycle my tank before I add the rainbow shark. I when I get my 77 gallon fish tank set up in december, I will post a video. Thanks for the info. Just wondering if it is a male or female.

  • @freedom0g23skyline In my opinion this is a Male, but it is extremely difficult to sex them when they are older. But for now I know that the Red Tailed Black Shark (RTBS) is a female because of the outlining on her anal fin. This is also a diagnostic characteristic for the Rainbow Sharks (RS) BUT on mine, there is no outline, in addition to the fact that on an angle he is somewhat green black and brown so that indicates male.

    CANT WAIT TO SEE!

  • How did your rainbow shark get so big! I got one about 4 months ago and he hasn't really gotten big. He probably grew half in inch. He is currently in a 29 gallon tank. I will soon move him to a 77 gallon tank in december though.

  • @freedom0g23skyline Rainbow sharks are VERY picky about what they eat and what kind of temperature they like etc.. Once you pin point the perfect tank parameters your fish will grow. I would suggest to you that you set up the 77 gallon WAY before you go to move the rainbow shark because if the ammonia or nitrite is high at all it will stress them.

  • @freedom0g23skyline AND if you stress them, they wont eat and that leads to infections and sometimes death. SO my suggestion for you is to set up the 77 test the water, once the water is good throw some cherry barbs and neons in make sure you have about 20, so 10 for each school of fish, AND then wait and test the water after that. Once its again perfect make sure you add your rainbow shark directly into the tank removing his hiding spot from the 29 to the 77.

  • @freedom0g23skyline The reason I suggest to wait , is because you MIGHT have gotten a fish from the store with bacteria on it, SO have the temperature set at 80 and acclimate the barbs to the new tank and once theres no sign of disease then you can put your rainbow shark in. My Rainbow shark is about 5 years old how old is yours?
