Mr. Hooper :(...... i remember when i was mad young n omg. i forgot he is jewish dat makes me hate hitler even more, even when hitler dont got nuhn to do wit hisz death but....... I can giv a whole speech.. Oh myyy..., i really mite cry.... thanks the dah flood of memories.
candy is dandy but liquor is quicker....not only did willy wonka say that i think this guy did too....someone look behind that counter i bet theres a half empty bottle of whiskey there!
I wonder why later on they shortened these which didn't give time for everyoneat hom to figure out which group doesn't belong although the non street versions of 3 Of these Things still had the longer music.
ah good ol' bk/wh days - i love @ :37 when he's like can you guess which group doesn't belong, and the camera's on a black girl and a white kid; and the girl looks soo confused, lol.
I remember the screen split up into four quarters. Each quarter showed a kid doing some activity, while one of the four was doing something strikingly different. The song "one of these kids is doing his own thing" was pretty groovy, although the "game" was an insult to our intelligence; even as youngsters!
I remember him singing a beautiful song that might have been called "When I Was As Little As You Are." He was showing photos of himself as a boy. I haven't seen that bit on Sesame Street since I was VERY little.
That "politically correct" term of the song actually showed up in the late 70's or early 80's. You wouldn't want to give the message that they "didn't belong" because they were "not like the others".
know one really remembers i guess it is obsolete but I know for sure hooper was not singing it but if anybody has at least the late late 80's version or remembers it hit me up
I remember it, but I almost had myself convinced it didn't exist since no one else seems to remember "One of these kids is doing their own thing." I say it to students in my classes all the time and they don't get it.
oh wow i am so happy i am not the only one........i wish someone would post it. If I could go back in time I would record all my favorite ones. Thank you for the reply.
I think that was probably before 1975 because Mr. Hooper pass away around 1980. I couldn't get which pile was different because Mr Hooper was using all "candy".
this is racist :D these ones are blackkkk also he asks to black child :D

I LOVED Mr. Hooper and cried when he died. I watched the episode when that happened even though I was well past the age of watching Sesame Street.

Fair play to him. I think he knows full well he can't sing, so he's not really attempting to sing, but just talking over the music in a jolly way.
We all miss you Mr Hooper.

Ah, if only I had known a creepy shop keeper who could dance and sing off-key when I was little.
Incidentally, Mr. Hooper really needs singing lessons.

There was 1 Hooper skit where he sang a song called " When I WAs Little As You Are." and showed a book that had old photos of NYC when he was a kid.
He sand it quite well.
In this he just says the worrds without really singing and this was not the only time he did that.

This is very very classic. It isn't even in color! Mr. Hooper set the stage for the "Now it's time to play our game" segment.

I think it is in color, I seen some clips that look like they're in B&W but I see a hint of red and green in this one.

so there are four categories in the form.
one category has four "contents"
so the three with three don't belong... because they are not expressions of the whole.

Does anybody have the 90's version "one of these kids is doing their own thing......"
ciandraj 4 years ago
That "politically correct" term of the song actually showed up in the late 70's or early 80's. You wouldn't want to give the message that they "didn't belong" because they were "not like the others".

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA your funny....do remember the more jazzed up versions?

@mstatz
I had no idea that the words of this song were changed for politically correct reasons. Very interesting indeed!
Smartboy8877 9 months ago
Weird, that must be late-90s, because I grew up in the early 90s and I remember the song saying 'doesn't belong', not 'doing their own thing'.
