Herbie Hancock's wife had given birth this morning....shortly after he had gotten a winning ticket in the New York State Lotto. You gotta be in it to win. He won.
Herbie seems like he was off his game here. Almost disruptively so. I'd be pissed if the keyboardist played some of that nonsense while I was building a solo. But these guys are all legends, so what can you say? I love Herbie, just not what he was playing in this clip. Just check out the looks Miles was shooting him. Heh. Nevertheless, Garrett played his ass off, and the rest of the band was tight. Great video.
Hello to all Miles' fans. If you want to delve into his discography, check out my channel : Miles Davis' discography under REVIEW for the first time ever. Cheerio.
Miles Davis may be a jazz giant and genius, but Herbie Hancock is DEFINETLY not from this planet!!! Are you f***ing kidding me?! A master and a true pro.Any style of music, just name it,and he'll play and understand it like a true pro.Just amazing...
I've yet to see a video over 50,000 views without any dislikes. I'm going to make a video about the small minority of 100 or so haters who go around hating.
@jazzpedals are you serious? lol hes a master, they are allowed to have some fun too, look at him, he is enjoying himself, what more could you ask of a musician? and btw, he plays the keytar like no one else and i love it :)
@JDrumbar Hahahaha... Of course I'm not serious!.. He's having fun and he is a Master. That instrument, though, sounds like shite (that's the best you could find at that time, but I wonder what would Herbie say about its sound today)
at a time when gillespie and armstrong were playing to the crowd he decided early on he wasn't gonna smile for the crowd. serious.... miles is serious....
Sorry to say, but Miles was kind of a bastard right...? I know he was a great musician a really genius composer but had was really bad hearted and racist towards white people... I heard that he would do anything to get you out of the picture if he felt threatened... Apart from that great video!!!
He was racist against white people in his youth, wich is not strange when white people was racist against black people like him, but as he grew and met more whites, some that werent racist, he discover that white people was ok. Reas his biography.
I'd really love to read his bio some time because he is one of my favorite musicians ever... All I'm saying is that his character wasn't the best... :-P
he hated white people applauding to his music. he was unique. outstanding. and if someone is a racist, and in the same time the opposite of a massacering b..trd, so why not? he had the carte blanche, you see?! his talented work plus his educated background, hm, that only can result in a monster ego, cuz he had a tough time in the past as we whiteys were not as educated as we are today, or did i miss again? :) yes, i did. because we still are uneducated. worse than ever.
Miles stood up for a lot of his performances because of the slightly different sound you get when playing the trumpet down towards the floor. Its not taught by teachers because it is "incorrect" but it does change the sound from the traditional classical style slightly. Which is why teachers discourage it.
at ticotecar : He,s not rolling his eyes man he,s just into the music. Probably you ain,t a musician for misunderstanding that expresion. no hate just saying. bye bye.
TICETOCAR...Miles was at the end of his life when this concert took place. That may explain his "lack of intensity". Miles was like Picasso, always changing...he was an innovator and while everything he did may not have been the greatest, he wanted to keep moving forward with the music. He was concerned with exploring what was next. And as for the musicians on stage not wanting to be there...I think that is way off. Miles fostered their careers and they had the utmost respect for him.

I don't get why people get so enthousiastic about Mils Davis.. not offering anything to the band as far as playing is concerned.. Hancock kind of mocks him when he trades some lines..and at 8.33 min herbie kind of rolls his eyes .. what the fuck am I doing here.. lol.. I think ALL the players think that cause yes he's a legend.. but when someone can't play with inspiration and intensity... why bother? I'm done with the whole 'Miles is sooooo great' mystique.. cause he isn't.
Not everything Miles did was great.. but some of what he did was just as good as it gets. He was also an innovator, an arranger and a man with an eye for talent whou could put together the most ass-kicking band you ever saw. And he could push a groove so hard that you'd think it was going to explode.
