  • quick question, im building a savage and was jw if that was the factory barrel you have on the gun in this vid? thanks.

  • Not going to dis you as you are honest enough to admit to being less than expert standard. Even so, considering the range, calibre of weapon & general weather conditions, gusting wind, heat haze etc, etc it was pretty fair to good shooting especially from the first shooter.

I saw nothing wrong that practice won't cure but second shooter, work on your position/grip, let the bipod do what it's there for, sort out your breathing & stop moving around/changing your position so much then ENJOY.

  • let me get this straight.

you two fellas are in the middle of nowhere. And you decide to shoot the one thing that will keep you alive? water -_-

  • about how much does that rifle cost in stock trim?

  • i shot at 400 yards with a 223 mini 14 lol

  • pretty dang good ,what s the rate of swist in your barrel

  • Ryan Dunn! I thought you were dead?

  • I noticed you leave your ammo in direct sunlight. Never a good idea as it causes velocity-pressure issues which add to verticle stringing.

  • A .223 @ 1000yds would barely put out an eye...

  • @chimandude You should put on a catchers mit and safety glasses and field some of those 69 grain pills then.

  • @chimandude it has the same energy a 22 magnum would at 50 yards. At 50 yards a 22 magnum would blow the back of your head off.

  • @chimandude .... Can I shoot at you from 1100 yards with one then?

  • Did you adjust your scope to that distance? or did you use hold over?

  • nice video. how did you get two pictures on the screen at the same time

  • will that scope hold up on a 300 win mag?

  • /watch?v=zfeQRjarGHM check out my savage model 11 in 243.

  • 4:20 yay!!!!!!! lol i love the 223 its the best round out there

  • what kinda load where you using

  • If you are having trouble seeing the target through the mirage try using a lower magnification. For a plate that size you really only need about 15X at that distance to shoot it. Very good shooting none the less.

  • Some serious up draft there- where ever this is...Good for hang gliding.

  • i just sent for that bsa platinum scope 6x24 with the mil-dot rec how do you like it.

  • @MrMar21457 I really like my BSA, especially considering the price. Higher Xs get a little hazy, but overall I would recomend it to anyone looking for a quality budget scope.

  • @macaddict34 unfortunatly never is the saying.. you get what you pay for more applicable than with scope optics..

  • @macaddict34 wrong time of day to do that. early morning man im telling you. i was out shooting 880 yrds in the morning in winter and still when that sun was high in the sky i coulndt see crap but the mirage. but earlier things were clear as a bell. The wind seem to gust on you guys and then dye out.

  • @macaddict34 Hey! Im not all that new to shooting, but im turning 18 in march and have saved my money for a rifle. How do you like your Savage 11? I was thinking about getting a Savage 12 bvss. would you say that it would be acceptable for hitting squirrels at over 600ft? i just want a gun that can challenge me in marksmanship that doesn't cost an absolute ton. Much thanks--CJ

  • That's awesome I'm excited to try this

  • there were a few things i'd like to mention, one of them is that was some fine shooting and the other one is the placment of your back leg when shooting prone. i noticed that it was rather far away from your body. just if u want to try i found that if you bring your right leg in farther it takes pressure off and raises your chest makeing your breathing affect the shot a lot less, just somthing to try. but that was still some nice shooting.

  • At that range any little gusts of winds etc. will mess with your trajectory. Good shooting. :)

  • Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it. I shoot a rifle build on a Stevens 200 action in .223 and I haven't had a chance to go beyond 450 meters as of yet. The Sierra 69 grain HPBT over Varget seems to be the best load for long range shooting in .223, although my ideal charge is 25.8 grains ha ha ha.

  • If we have land like that, we will try it. NICE :)

  • what scope is that looks like the night train .

  • yyaayy!!

    4:16

  • Savage is a good gun but I've heard accuracy can be helped by polishing the crown using an $8 tool at Midway USA. Not that that will help you or anything. I think your left-handed friend may need a little more practice but in all fairness, you sighted in the gun for you, a right hander. I think that could make a small difference and if you tell him this it may boost his confidence too. Good job boys!

  • Nice shooting! Proof that the 223 CAN go further than 300 yards. :-)

  • 1:53 Fucking Mouth-Breather

  • @ajw159 U R A Jerk

  • Psh guys I've shot a nickel at 1500 meters with a red ryder bb gun.

    LOL jk

    Nice Shooting guys.

  • what make is your rifle? thats awesome i love seeing someone shoot looking for accuracy and not to just make the neighbors mad

  • 223 lol

  • I love how all these "experts" come out of the closet with stuff like you should be hitting 12 by 12 inches and crap. That is a long long way to shoot anything especially a .223. You guys were doing real good. Looked like a lot of fun too.

  • Nice shooting guys. looked like a fun day.

  • jesus. 1000 yards with a 223 is unheard of for me. first time ive even seen this attmpted. anyone know what the powderload they put in there was?

  • second guy looked a little... awkward shooting the gun. need to loosen up a bit and relax. also move your body around the gun, looked to me that you were laying in one spot and not moving even though it kind of seemed like you were uncomfortable shooting from that exact position. just an idea.

  • i shot a pidgeon of a fence post with a .22 at 200m i felt so ACE

  • Good shooting! I've used that exact load (almost) in my AR.

Do you have any idea what the chamber length is? I ask b/c you might be able to shoot a heavier bullet, maybe a 75 or even an 80.

Sorry, don't want to sound like an expert, but you mentioned that it was getting harder to see the target b/c of heat waves? David Tubb uses a felt pad secured with rubber bands to the barrel to keep mirage out of the sights. Maybe that helps?

  • @bsrman36 I'm actually not sure on my chamber length. Sadly, I don’t think I’ve shot that rifle in over a year. I’ve never tried bullets heavier than 69 grains just cause I found something that worked and stuck with it. Might have to look into it though and try some heavier loads. The mirage tip would definitely be worth a try. That particular day was about 100 degrees out there so I couldn’t say how much of the mirage was due to barrel heat or just the warm earth.

  • @macaddict34

    What load do you use?

Looking for a long range load up to 800yds for my AR15

  • @bsrman36 im pretty sure that twist rate is more important than chamber length?

  • @bjizzle123 yes and no. if you can eliminate the jump from case to rifleing it WILL be more accurate.

  • @danthman114 i take it your re-loading then, you seem to have a good load worked up. ive got a few good ones but i dont have the room to try them out like you guys do. but i can get under a half inch at 100 all day, which isnt much to brag about though.

  • Very nice shooting guys! Down here in southern AZ we are starting to run out of wide open spaces.(Way too many people moving here) Where did you shoot this vid? Colorado? - Utah? I need to move there! Ahhh,To roam the land free of TRASH!!

  • Looks like a blast, would be interested in seeing a target on paper at that range, I tend to avoid shooting that far with a 223:)

  • This si a crosswind isues which is common in 223. Past 400 meters crosswind messes with this round. This is why the military went to a hbar with a 62 grain bullet for years. The SS109 will reach that far but wind will still be an issue past 600 meters. I used to teach my troops to shoot their hbar past 600 meters out to the full 800 max eff.

  • looks like you need more practice estimating cross wind speed

  • i would buy a leupold v-III and use lower bi-pod. i shot my first deer at 750 then my second at 1200. With a 300 wby the first and a 338-38 wby mag the second.

  • Good shooting.

  • That's some nice shooting. I take Bar-B-Que Bamboo Skewers and hot glue gun them to clay pigeons. It works great. (not that far yet...some day :)

  • You guy should look up how to ajust for windage, it really puts you on target and in the future you can almost guess the clicks! USMC Good luck and be safe and have fun!

  • How dare people underestamite a savage

  • @monkey477oft : I would agree !

I was one of them long ago that stuck up my noise at a Savage until a women brought into my shop her low end model 110 in 30-06 for glass a bedding job .

I finished the work on the gun then took the gun to shot it, I was stunned to see every brand of ammunition I shot from that Savage would group not less than a 1/4 group even to 250 yards !

I then loaded 5 30-06 rounds with Nosler 180s with 57gr H414 and found the gun grouped one tight hole @ 150 yards .

  • impressive range for a .223

  • god i hate living in northwest indiana... no were close to do stuff like this... i need to move lol. nice shooting makes me wanna try for the 1000 yard mark some time.

  • Nice video guys & it better then some of the so called pros

  • Curly haired guy ok shooting. You need a better scope. Even the Bushnell Elite 3200 mil-dot would be an improvement. Glasses guy needs to listen to the curly guy & practice.

You both should be hitting a 12"x12" plate regular at that distance with handloads. Practice on clay pigeons for a challenge.

  • @cpaulinus I looked at the Bushnell. Wasn't impressed. Thanks for the criticism, but i never claimed to be an expert marksman or anything. We're just having a little fun.

  • @macaddict34 It's not the scope, its the cross wind. If ever you wish to do serious shooting at 1000yrds get a range finder that gives wind measurements. nice video, keep it up.

  • @cpaulinus maybe you could post a vid of you shooting clay pigeons @ 1km

  • @cpaulinus I have the Bushnell Ledgend on a Mossberg 4x4 270 Very nice Marriage, How is the mil -dot I have`nt tried one I looked through one but could`nt see distance in store.

  • guys you need to lower the bi-pod and buy a 7-08 or move 500yd down range!

  • @stevenleades Thank you so much for the constructive comments.

  • nice gun

  • i love it! 15 pound choate stock and a toothpick barrel! lol

  • @lane1030 Yeah, its something special alright...

  • What grain were you using? 75?

  • @sdearnest1981 69 grainers. I seem to have the best luck with those.

  • its wierd but watching someone shoot left handed makes me all off balance

  • It's an mod. 11, and it's cheap as hell too bro.

  • you have such an expensive savage model 12 rifle but mounted such a cheap BSA scope?

  • @ShootingStuffCanada It's a model 11, and its nowhere near being expensive.

  • @macaddict34 oh sorry i searched model 12's and this came up so I figured it was

  • What model BSA scope is that and what power?

  • @roscoep78 It's a platinum series, 6-24x.

  • @macaddict34 Thank Bruh...Im tryin to get "Long Range" on a budget, LOL

  • I have and old tikka 223. The best factory ammo is federal 55 soft points. Home loads I ues 40 grain hp . Can consistantly shoot rabs and foxes 400yds in hunting conditions. Cheers Steve from Aus

  • Looks like a sporter profile barrel. What's the length and twist rate ?

  • @crankshaft454 It's a 22 incher with a 1 in 9 twist.

  • what ammo is being used here? Ive just bought a Tikka .223 and didnt think it could reach out accurately at that distance. What scope is on the gun?

  • @MrSkosig The scope's a bsa platinum series. Really inexpensive, but it performs well. I'm shooting some handloads I loaded with seira match king 69 grain HPBTs.

  • @macaddict34 thanks, i havent shot my rifle yet but will go for a heavier bullet then.Im going to buy factory loaded to begin with, any good suggestions? Im really a 25metre gallery shooter with my .22 and .357 so this is new science to me. As for the inexpensive scope, totally agree. You dont need mega expensive scopes to shoot well.

  • @MrSkosig I couldn't offer much advice as for factory loads. I initially shot 55 grain remingtons but i got away from factory loads really quick because the groups were god-awful. Savage gives their .223 a faster twist than the norm so the lighter bullets didn't perform at all out of my rifle.

  • @macaddict34

    ok thanks for the thoughts

  • cool video guys, i do the same thing across soybean fields in spring before planting season. had a guy call bs on me and said he would stand at 500 and let me shoot at him. after watching a 20 oz water bottle explode at 500 he quickly changed his mind !!!!!i shoot a savage heavy fluted ss 223 ackley, 75 a-maxes and 69 sierras = death from afar. also have 6br norma 28 inch brl 1 in 8 twist. 107 sierras are awsome in it also. keep dingin em boys, good job!!!!

  • that guy (second one) needs to get a left hand gun, and i never seen/heard any targets being hit??????

  • Is the trigger the accu-trigger or another savage factory trigger, or is it some type of aftermarket(Timeny, Rifle Basix)?

  • @WisconSniper It's just the stock accu-trigger.

  • lol!the guy in white can shoot for shit!

  • @zzztubazzz lol, you told him off, In á CÒòL wáy...

  • how is that scope treating you? how long have you been shooting with it? im thinking bout putting it on a rem. 700 in .243 and just wondering how it'll hold up to recoil.

  • @HungryRom411 I've had it about 2 years now and it's held zero perfectly. I'm really happy with it. It really is surprising that it performs so well when you consider the price. I've got a SWFA super sniper on my .308 and that thing is solid as hell. It was originally produced by Tasco for a mil. contract, but lost out to leupold. This SWFA company took over production and sells them directly. They're able to sell them pretty damn cheap by cutting out the middle man. my 10X42 mil. was $300

  • Nice shooting guys!!

  • Has anyone here shot the Savage Edge? I've seen some good reviews around the web, especially considering the price of those rifles.

  • @macaddict34 Ya, good distance with great handling. Myne was bolt action with a nice 3X12X24 scope on it. Then i got a felony and court orders to hand it in =(

  • @macaddict34 I've never shot but from what i hear it is the best thing savage has done in the way of afordable accuracy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Dmac11a666 That comment does not add up. Elaborate.

  • No reason, besides I don't own any. The scopes a 6-24x.

  • Is there a reason that you use only a bipod, and not shooting bags? I always thought bags were more stable. What magnification is that scope?

  • Thats some mighty fine shootin...

  • beautiful rifle!! wish I was there blastin with you guys. I've never even tried to hit anything that far away. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun

  • Damn that's awsome!

  • Yah once that bullet hits subsonic velocity theirs no telling where it’s going it becomes unstable like a top when it starts to slow down.

  • This video reminds me of the opening minutes to the movie: No Country for Old Men.

  • Love these Savages. I so far have taken my 12 VLP .223 to 985 yards. Attached is a video. Sorry for poor quality, it was a foggy day and the camera only had 20x zoom.

Have you tried the 75gr a-maxes. Better BC of .G7 .212 vs .169 of the Sie 69gr bullets. I like the sierra 69 gr to 6-700 yards.

I now have a wireless target camera so if I can get out should be able to make better videos.

Great job on video, Just live pushing a cartridge to its limits of range.

    Cheers

  • nice shooting mate.. what twist rate is your barrel etc 1:8, 1:10, 1:12... i believe 1:8 would be best 60 grain an above.. but what difference would there be if you used 1:12 at that distance??

  • @plumberontap PM me an e-mail if you like and I will send you an excel spreadsheet I made to compare Stability for various .224 cal bullets with the G7 BC data. It allows you to set temp, pressure, velocity driven at, and twist rate to see stability. Also a graph for bullet selections based on weight and G7 ballistic coefficients

My savage 12 is 1:9 and in the summer can stabilize the 75 a-maxes, it says I won't be able to do that come winter. .

  • This was a year ago so I hope the man in the tan has learned that he was supporting himself on his elbows, was very unstable, and using his non-trigger hand to support the rifle. The man in black was flat on the ground and slightly off to the side for a better view and stability - he also supported the gun butt with his non-trigger hand allowing the tripod to support the front of the rifle. Examples of really good and really bad shooting form and the hits on target showed the results.

  • Nice shooting. Did you work the Savage at all?

  • Have someone with the exact same setup lay at the target and return fire and that would be a cool video.JK Good shooting!!!

  • Cool video...I have the BSA Platinum 36x44 on my Savage .223...great scopes for the money!

  • Have you tried to reload any 75gr bullets. Just looking at the ballistic data should be able to keep them supersonic to just beyond 1000 yards. I am having good luck with the 75gr Hornady amaxes. G7 BC .212 and the 75gr hornday BTHP G7 .189. A little better than the 69 gr Sierra and 68 gr hornady BTHP both at .169 G7.

So far out to only 822 yards with the A maxes but great accuracy. Stability on a cold high pressure winter day may be an issue in a 1:9 twist though.

  • It is fun isn't it! Make your next rifle another savage but with a bull varmint barrel. You'll have 4" more barrel, therefor +/- 200 fps MV and the the barrel will shoot more rounds before it gets too hot and starts to open up the groups. If you learn to "read mirage" (aka HEAT SHIMMER) & you can use it gauge the wind. The dust signature, looks like about 5 to 7 mph at the target. Probably more at peak of trajectory on the way to the target. Keep shoot'n & never stop learning. Semper FI

  • To the second shooter in the video, try getting lower when shooting. Your friend in the black shirt does this effectively. I'd almost bet he was in the military, or taught by someone who does. Good job hitting it though, not an easy shot with .223.

  • Comment removed

  • what did you zero your scope at?

  • Nice shooting, there are a lot of retards that dont know much about firearms, and they are the ones that think this shot is imposable , all i have to say to them is buy a .223 buy some long glass and practice.

  • what size glass are you using

  • nice work man!

  • Contary to some in the posts that can not believe you are shooting 1000 yds with a 223, and are calling, BS.

I have no doubt you can do it with decent loads and REALLY good wind doping.

  • This is some legit shooting. Anyone calling BS, just hasn't pulled a trigger yet.

Those 69gr Sierras are the best out there. Getting a bit heavy for .223, although heavier is better for long range.

Good job hitting that target man, congrats!

  • LEFTYS CANT SHOOT RIGHTY GUNS haha idk really, nice shooting.

  • nice shooting.vid looks legit to me.if you say they positivly cant do it then you wouldnt mind standing at 1000yds and telling them to shoot?go for it.awsome vid guys.

  • Comment removed

  • dunno what the rifle is but my .223 shoots just under 1MOA. dunno what particular rifle they are shooting but i imagine its as good if not better. so at 1000yds they should consistantly hit in a 10"x10" square so these shots are definately possible and difficult to do because any wind will throw the bullet way off target. ex: 5mph wind @ 600m with the M855 5.56 will move the point of impact 40"

  • Very nice shooting! Dont listen to these morons trying to say this is impossible,, they obviously know nothing about firearms and ballistics, or are jealous of your success with a hard shot to make!

  • Nice Shooting. Based on the info and the video I put the target at 1000yds +- 50yds. So those calling you out, just dont know what they are talking about. The ballistics of the bullet when it hits the target are around 108 ft-lb at 840fps (22lr). The angle of the shot (I have you sighted to 300yds) gives 42 MOA. Have fun with the .308

  • @newdreamz Hey, an intelligent comment. Thanks

  • @newdreamz your a person that seems to know alot of balistics and what not quick question, i am planning on getting an ar15 or ar10 but cant choose which one. i want something to use at the range looking for use at the 500-700 range but still want enought energy when it gets there to drop a 2 legged varmint if need be. could a .223 do this or should i just get the .308.

  • I just picked up a Savage 10 fcp-k in .308. That gong's screwed once I save up a bit for glass and some mounting hardware.

  • @macaddict34 what scope is that?

  • @macaddict34 How do you like that Savage? I'm thinking of getting one.

  • @armedandready72 Love it. The thing shoots great, especially for its price.

  • Sure, my rounds at 500 yards are still hitting at approx.. 2300 fps. My loads leave the barrel at 2960 fps. I can't see me hitting targets at 1000 yards. This drop would be huge. It would be like dropping a basket at half court at a 90 degree angle. I just don't see it happening.

  • @craigunilocprof No bullshit about it. That plate's a much bigger target than any prairie dog.

  • @craigunilocprof Just trying to understand your post here. "a crushed unique"

Is that Alliant powder Unique that you have crushed.

If so I'm calling you crazy. To crush a powder totally changes its burn properties (deterrent coatings, speed it up) Also Unique powder is for handguns and shot shells. Alliant does even offer data for rifles. A pretty quick powder.

I won't be surprised if you don't answer, hospital or dead I suspect.

Through Quick load 16gr Unique 2978fps 107000 Psi. Nuts!!!

  • @craigunilocprof Theres a vid of a guy shooting 800+ yards , and then 900 yards with a .223. A skilled shooter can hit this kind of range with a .223, just not as consistent as a .308 or .338

  • @craigunilocprof dude ive seen it done be4 so i call bullshit on u

  • @craigunilocprof

If I can make a 900 meter shot with a Savage FV12 with a heavy barrel shooting 55 grain Remington he can make it shooing handloads. Maybe hes a better shooter than you?

  • @craigunilocprof its completely possible bud....you can take a .308 out to 1500 also...ballistically it is possible just like anything....maybe you should try it...hp bullets in a .223 has negligible effects on BC.....believe it....its real, i could do it myself...all it takes is dialing in and keeping steady.

  • If you listen you can hear a ricochet off that last water bottle haha.

  • Waych my roo shooting videos!!

  • something I never understood. The only problem Id have with that cartridge is the fact that in wind smaller projectiles have a tendency to vary more, but it'll still kill you if you weren't wearing body armour! I shoot 6.5 swede, you don't need anything ridiculously fast or huge to hit "way out there", just a good rifle and a sound knowledge of shooting. Nice job, fellas!

  • what kind of optic are you running, by the way?

  • @siegehammer63 BSA 8-24x platinum.

  • @macaddict34 very nice! I always kind of liked my idea for a US Optics SN-3 5-25x58, but its proven to be a pain to get in canada

  • A .223 at that range might hit it. but the energy would be nothing. i shoot a .308 and max affective range is 800 meters. .223 loses energy at 300 meters. a lot of people get on here thinking they could kill something at that range. my air soft gun would have more energy.

  • Very nice shooting! Cool to see this being done with .223!

  • Such a tiny round and it maintains so much accuracy and range.

  • I use a 69gn SMK on 25gn's of Viht N140. Shoots accurately at 500yds, never tried at these distances... respect.

Personally, I wouldn't try it on live animals beyond 300yds as it's beyond my comfort zone. .308/7.62mm maybe, but not a .223

  • Also, I use 32 minutes from 300 to 500 yds - 50 minutes from 100 to 500 yds. Do you use an M.O.A adjusted base?

  • 4:16 YAAAY

  • ETA on target?

  • @razgriz4977 ~1.83 seconds.

  • Ohhh, okay. Before I was having trouble seeing when the bullet impacted. I got it now. Nice shooting. :D

  • whats the twist rate on tha rifle? and barrell length. is it heavy or no?

  • this is vvhat being an American shooter is all about....not buyin a shooter and feelin tough...but goin outand using it....our basketball/golf ball/baseballs etc fly at 3000 fps....non shooter/anti gun people vvill never understand the math/skill/sport part of shooting.....thx to the framers for givin us the 2nd amendment! great vid...it shovvs vvhat its all about.......godspeed

  • Couldn't have said it better myself

  • @treon123456 what are the math problems to shoot that far?

  • @treon123456 fuck ya, even though im irish

  • @treon123456 The framers are ok, but the teachers I like to thank for teaching me to spell.

  • @treon123456 ra!

  • @treon123456 this is what being a shooter, in any country, is all about.
