  • how longs the run and how long do u get?

  • im joining the army in september, im gonna miss everybody

  • i want to be a path finder but i doubt i have the fitness to be a para :(

  • soggy biscuit :D god bless boys x

  • okay I am joining the royal regiment of scotland, I ant to go to 5 scots which is an air assault role...I know that its not the paras but can you still do parachute jumps like the paras or is it all just helicopter landing/ rappelings ? someone get back soon cause it would be good to know !

  • @vennom212 go into your local army office i did because im joining the infantry when im 16 only 14 15 in febuary but they say the war will be over soon but we might go back in because all the taliban have to do is hold out 18-20 months and america is pulled out

  • @vennom212 . . Its just heli stuff you do. Now other regiment will ever be 'like' the parachute regiment. Even with wings, your a parachutist, not a Paratrooper . Good luck bud

  • @chaddy06 cheers mate, So theres no chance if i went to 5 scots that i could do a static line jump into an opp in the near future lol ? Bone question i know

  • i might join, havent made up my mind though :( and its a hard decision :(

  • Stupid question but are these the paras our are they another regiment.

  • does anyoone know hw lng after basic infantry training till i can join the army commandos?

  • You need to be accepted for it, and if it's anything the same as the SAS, you need to prove yourself in battle, and they are looking for people roughly around 20 - 22 as a minimum.

  • how do u know? are u making that up

  • Nope, I've had friends denied from SAS selection for those reasons.

  • alright ii beleive u

is it true the pathfiinder platoon has only 45 soldiers in it?

  • No idea, but it IS only a platoon.

Also, sorry, I had my information mixed up, I was thinking about another regiment. If you mean commandos as Marines, you can just join into them, straight from basic.

  • yep. all voulenteers.

  • as soon as your out of itc get loaded on a pre commando course first then it will be easy from there. do 59 opposed to 29.

  • To join a infantry unit in 16 air assault that isn't paras do I have to pass p coy?

  • The Chinook is such an important helicopter for the british army, yet there are only 30 supporting 8000 troops in afghanistan and the goverment refuse to buy more when the soldiers desperatly need them

  • If there r any paras or people trainin to be paras, here, can u tell me what state of mind it takes to b a para? I'm interested in joining but i dont know enought about the regiment.

  • yeah mate, been to afghanistan. get your free dvd from the british army website. it does explain a little bit about it. you have to go into training with an open mind. be prepared for the worst because they put you through hell. When you get out there though in Afghanistan it all seems worth it. Everything comes alive. DO NOT GO OUT UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO TAKE A LIFE!!! that i stress most. you will no doubt watch friends die. IED's-deadly but yeah it was the best move i ever made

  • Cool, cheers for the info, i'll have a good think about it, the challenge is what attracts me to the regiment, good luk if u go on another tour!

  • hen527 if you want to do then go 4 it. it's better to try and fail then not even giving it a go. Go 4 it and all the best

  • just applied for the paras got knocked back one year because of my medical fucking gutted. be back next year good luck too everyone who is going for it might c u there one day.

  • to join the household cavalry's para squad do i have to go through p coy?

  • Yes. Its called all arms P Coy, It's still P coy though. Anyone who wants to serve with the paras, Even if your not 1,2,3 or 4 battalion still has to do P coy.

  • i would love to do that omg it looks like a buzz, you guys rule. british army = best, most professional and well trained on the planet, no comparision.

  • im joining para's , done my barb test got interview soon , anyone got anytips for nutriation?? message and good luck to anyone joining, para's are well respected so it goes: )

  • aha. Good luck mate. I'm joining the Army, but haven't decided which Regiment i wanna join. Para's are probably at the top of the list.

  • thanks mate, and there is so many to choose from i was a bit like unsure but wonted a challenge:) and might see you if you go para's

  • fair play to you mate-one good piece of advice i could give RUN WITH WEIGHT, coz once your in there you never run without weight- my sister is almost finished at sandhurst so i had a lot of tips from her. bro i wont be in my prime till im 24,25. have only just started fillin out proper, my grandpa was a paratrooper so its in my blood, still hard work and not even in phase 1 training yet- need to quit smokin :(

  • ill be off harrogate or winchester m8

  • why not catterick- because of your age?

  • ye mate, well im hoping to go in september but got a feeling it will be fill an will go in januray lol and cool well my grandad was in army to so in my blood to :) and smoking well i dont but i bet it is hard man lol

  • yeh man well hard to quit, goin out for a run in a min shame you cant go str8 to catterick, i would of probab seen you there lol wish i would of done this when i was your age instead of waitin till now, just go for it bro maybe ill see you in a few years in 3para......

  • ye see u in 3 para hopefully, have u noticed loss of weight with running coz since i have been running ive gone from 11 an half stone to 10 its like were it all gone lol

  • nah man, got me time down to 9.08 now and done a 5miler in 41mins. i only weigh 10stone ne way m8 got no fat on me jus muscle lol. need to put fuck load of weight on before afghan, i heard some people lost like 3 half stone out there fuck that lol

  • oright m8 got selection on june 20th so time to get some running done, got exams before hand tho with school :@ lol dont u feel like u cant push u self when on ur own but with other people u could run all day coz people say when u have someone their motovating you , you perform to the max

  • yeah i know what you mean but if you can push hard by yourself , u can push yourself even harder with the lads- i got my meds sent bk to me recruiter now and jus waitin for medical clearance,- booked in for para insight course on 31july by me csgt whos in 1para!! im lookin at phase1 beginin of sept i reckon

  • oright m8 i passed selection and start training soon :D:D:D got 9.02 on the run :O

  • Slow poke lol. Well donw mate, good luck to you.

  • fair play mate, i got my selection two weeks. so i will know then, if all goes to plan i should start september- runnin mid 8s now so fingers crossed lol. good job mate...

  • well good luck for that mate. and 8 mins :O lol guessing you wont to finish first what ever you do come about 3rd i came 3rd out of 70 lads and if you come first its guranted they will beast you and expect you to shine on every aspect so try not to finish first m8 aim for 3rd

  • imj running mid 8s my best is 8.28- i can understand what your saying lol i guess i will have to wait and see what happens. 3rd out of 70 is good man what the average time? 1st would be nice but i doubt it theres always someone faster or better lol- my recruiter can run 7.59 i dont know if i could ever get that. maybe? how many heaves do you need to do at selection for the paras?

  • How dare you beat my precious 8.36 lol. Anyways look, I'll PM you a big write up on ADSC that I wrote myself when I was there.

  • @ForeverTottenham can you send me one please

  • @jhobson1994: PM me your e-mail address fella.

  • well the guy who came first got like 8.56 or summot and you have to do lifting if you get over 120 on the static lift you can do the run within 9.40 but if u get less than 120 on lift you must run it under 9.18

i did 12 heeves i think u need to do 6 peice of piss m8 there palms facing you

  • 120lbs or kg?

  • What is selection like these days?

I was in in 58, 69 started but only 13 passed out.

    15 years in 3Para.

  • i maybe wrong but i belive its 1.5 miles in under 9 mins 30 sec and then 50 press ups + in 2 mins and 50 sit ups + in 2 mins

  • You are refering to the yearly fitness test.

If you failed these your pay was cut.

i do not understand why the Police Force dont do the same sort of thing.

They do need to be fit.

  • yer that test is all you gotta do to get in that and really basic numracy and litracy tests aswel as you barb test which is simple touch screen tests but timed. the fitness parts done in pirbright over a 2 day period. i totaly agree with what your saying about the police i know they have a fitness test etc to get in but then its just down to there own disgression if they want to stay fit

  • can't wait till it my years 2 serve! joing the royal amrine commando's soon just checking and aprreciating the other regimants that r around!

  • Comment removed

  • if you want a very hard challenge mate i'd advise you to attempt the Parachute Regiment, however you need a fierca amount of determination to prevail, if you do not want such a hard challenge try the Light Infantry or one of the Guards regiments (although a mate of mines in the grenadier guards and he says it's really boring standing there all day 'guarding the queen'' but hey who knows you might enjoy it , good luck whatever you choose anyway m8

  • im joining infantry in 2 years, just trying to figure out what part to join.

im doing work experiance in the army when i go back to school in a week. lookin 4ward 2 it

  • thats why you allways have the recconisence corp to go in first to reccie the area

  • the problem is that they are all light infantry. If they have to face armour they r totally fuked

  • so this is just the air assult of the infintry not paras yea?

  • Does everyone in the 16th Air assault Brigade, even if they aren't in the parachute regiment have to do P company and all that harder infantry training?

  • No, you can be badged 16 AA and get the maroon beret but not do P-coy.

  • woohoo joining parachute reg but have to wait 2 years :(

  • it depends really mate. usually you have one gpmg per 8 man section but some infantry platoons have a fire support group with gpmg's a 51mm mortar,AT4's etc. an FSG is a flexible asset you can move around the battlefield to provide fire support to sections that are in the shit

  • Just a question to people who know -maybe paras :), but would there really be multiple GPMGs lined up next to each other in one place like at 2:39 of the video or are they like that for the camera? It just seems strange to have so many machine guns so close to each other in my opinion, but I wouldn't know my arse from my elbow when it came to military tactics.

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to join the Paras with glasses?

  • get contacts

  • Why dont they advertise it as 'The Paras' anymore?

  • coz they dont use parachutes asmuch any more they use helicopters

  • So does that mean they still go through that hell on earth training and wear parachute wings on their arms?

  • yeh it does, makes them the best in the business

  • o yer

  • Using parachutes in the armed forces is not more than tradition nowadays 'cause the losses you get during a drop are far to high. Only the "skydivers" are still using parachutes today, like in long range recce or the SAS!

  • I've not seen much news or reports indicating losses of troops during parachute jumps? Safe as houses as long as you listen in your training and put that into practice.

  • I'm not talking about a normal drop, but combat drops always mean casualties. Just look at history, especially during WW2! No para drop could be counted a full success, just look at Arnheim! 8.000 British Paratroopers killed, or D-Day, when most Paras were shot down before even touching the ground...

I'm in the German Army, Airborne Recce, and we are taught this stuff. When we go into operation we deploy by chopper.

  • I've always admired how crazy/brave those brits are bouncing around Iraq in those barely armored Land Rovers.

  • compaired to???

  • Compared to an up-armored Humvee or MRAP

  • infanty does all of it...paras jus does the paras

  • so being in the air assault infantry doesnt mean you're gonna be in the paras?

  • Nah, its a popular misconception that the

16th is nothing but paras. It can be anything from air landings (C-130 scrapes on makeshift runways), helicopter assaults as seen above or the parachute entrance. The thing is parachuting isn't really a viable entrance onto a battlefield in this day and age, what with Triple-A air defences. The last operational jump was Seirra Leone in 2000, and that wasn't against an army, just a tribe.

  • Sgt Ginge, I'll forgive you your ignorance of Parachute Assault concept of operations. I've been doing this since 1976 and still doing it.

Don't add a throwaway comment like that unless you fully understand our concept of ops - you clearly don't

  • 250 ft at night, supported by Adv Forces/SF, MR2,FGA,CAP etc. It's a capability that gives us an insurance policy. 1000's of Europeans alive today because the Belgians & French retained this capability & used it at Kolwezi. Ask Gen Noriega if he thinks para assault is out of date - he was on the receiving end lol

  • well, in that case, my apologise. However, my understanding is that air supiority or supremacy has to be obtained before u can start landing troops, as par the example u gave above.

If you can deploy a shedload of troops without them being shot from the sky thats fine, but it seems to me that the only people who regularly make the jump into the combat zone tend to HALO it. I'm not saying the idea is past its prime, but the downsize of british airborne units wud seem to indicate otherwise

  • HALO is for small, highly specialised groups of Advance Force or SF - perhaps to recce, secure & mark a DZ for the main assault troops. You can't put a Bn Gp in by HALO. It has to be low altitude, below radar height which is why we have the LLP. N Afghanistan, Panama, Grenada, Kolwezi, Suez was all low level, mass para drop. As for downsize, we only had 3 Regular para Bn's in 1948, and guess what? We've still got 3 regular para Bn's. It's an option that gives us strategic reach in a few hours.

  • Para assault gives the ability to project force over long range, quickly. Helis don't have the range or lift capacity, and ships take too long. Sure, there's risk, but without giving away trade secrets, there's a whole package that supports it to make it work. it's not just a lumbering stream of hercs in broad daylight, there's a lot more to it than that. OK,UK hasn't done a mass para drop since Suez, but we haven't nuked anyone either - doesn't mean we want to give up that capability.Ins policy

  • excellent army video. total action.

  • Hi, can anyone tell me, is the air assault infantry the parachute regiment or not???

  • Nope. This is Infantry.

  • the parachuute regiment is an air assault infantry

  • I am surprised to see 3 Para championing the idea of stepping out of a Helicopter instead of Jumping out of a Plane. that's Airborne not riding around in a posh taxi!

  • Most paras would agree with you. But simple fact is that it is quicker, cheaper and safer to deploy by chopper. If you make a parachute drop against a well organised, entranced enemy with heavy weapons (US Rangers in Grenada) have to be prepared for 1/3 of the men to be dead before they land.

  • It almost makes me want to join the British Army

  • Wow, it looks amazing.

  • Thanks for the vid man!

  • the prince of wales own are air assault they are part of the yorkshire regiment.....

  • are there only paras that make-up the infantry air assault?

  • No,not always. The British "five bridade" was a "air landing brigade" its task was defense of the western flank of NATO. Transport was C140s and Pumas. The area for landing was remote parts of Zealand for the defense of Denmark and the British Oilfields in the North sea. At the time one of the Battalions was Para two were Infantry.

  • cheers for that mate

  • philippine army is the best army in the world...

  • lol ya right ryan

  • well thank you blair....

  • it was sarcasm

  • there you are, arrogant person
