  • i am very sceptical about this type of grafting... follow up would be very interesting to watch. in my country its impossible to graft pecan or walnut outside, because of the low temperatures.

  • HI Cathy, It looks like spring while u doing the pecan demo. is the scion wood last season wood?

  • The 4 strips of bark on the graft wood...did you allign that with the slits in the tree or the bark?

  • Where do you get the parafilm tape also where does the cultivar from?

  • Awesome. I learned something here that I can use.

  • Wow! That's really neat :) Thanks for Sharing!

  • Hi Cathy.

  • grafting can only be done on closely related species apples and cherrys are distantly related so are not graft compatable.apples to apples. pears to pears or quince. cherry to cherry. than necterine peach apricot and some plums are graft compatable. i have done some apple grafts. but if they donot start producing well soon they will be pulled out and something will be planted that is easier for me to grow. the stone fruits and relatives that grow in this area are usually really small any ways

  • the genetics donot cross as a rule. the scion will always be that selection. there is a slight chance with some species the roostock can affect the pollen and therfor the offspring/seedlings.grafting is done to keep a good variety going on a larger scale seedling just take allot longer to produce. quality and viger can also be questionable in seedlings. grafting i also done for rootstocks vigour and soil disease resistance. own root grapes die in florida from pathagens accept muscadine

  • What becomes of the 'new tree' as the years go by? Does one genetic makeup cede to other? Can you plant more trees from the new child scions?

  • que mujer tan admirable , felicidadez, es una manera facil y ojala que enseñe mas tecnicas

  • what is grafting for???

  • can you use this technique for walnut grafting?

  • OMG this is really cool! Can you do this on any tree?

  • It depends on the species of tree. There are different types of grafting and depending on the species of tree determines which grafting technique should be used.

  • Ok, thank you!

  • So is any tree game to graft to like say a cherry tree stock to a apple sion?

  • Comment removed

  • If you wrap the whole sion wood all the way to the top, where will the shoots sprout?

  • The parafilm is thin enough that the buds will break through.

  • Outstanding grafting demo. Graft to get a better variety of any fruit. Seedlings usually do not make good fruit and may take 20 years.

  • Ok That was great. But what time of year would one start a graft. Fall , spring or summer??. I have 100s of wild pecan trees that would make good root stock

  • Excellent Excellent Video, the best I've seen.
