In 1955 the mound of the hostages at Tara was excavated and the remains of a young adult male was found, it was carbon dated around 1350 B.C, making him a contemporary of king Tut. The remains at Tara was still wearing a necklace which was identical in style and manufacture as one found in king Tut's grave. Tut's Y-DNA Subclade is R1b1b2a, and so it mine.

Besides, the UN was the direct result of the Atlantic Charter agreed to by Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, and though they may have had ideas similar to Nicholas', they were not novel in Nicholas time. Such ideas date back at least to the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

@cholmain Nicholas' mobilisation against Austria started WWI. Germany informed Nicky that if he fought Austria Germany was bound by treaty to come to Russia's aid. Nicholas ignored that threat and declared war on Austria anyway. That obviously caused Germany to declare war on Russia in turn, which led to the further widening of the war. Nicholas could have just let Austria deal with Serbia, which wouldn't hurt Russia, but he didn't. So he is partially to blame. Peaceful guy that he is.

Germany tried restraining Austria, and Britain pressured France to restrain Russia. Russia and Austria waved their allies aside and therefore war began. To insinuate that Russia is totally innocent and that Germany planning on attacking it all along is just silly.

@LordClaremorris There was a serious arms race & danger of war for years. Nicholas proposed to "freeze" arms at the peace conference he organised, Germany rejected it. You are Irish and like linguistics. I thought you would be interested in an observation of mine:

@cholmain Indeed? Noted. I'll look into those words. As for arms races, to freeze them would be silly. Russia had far fewer cannons and ships than say Britain or Germany. It would be an unequal trade, and what if someone cheats the agreement? Just like Japan, Germany, and Italy cheated the Washington Naval Treaty. It's folly and no doubt it would never be accepted by nations who feel surrounded and threatened.

@LordClaremorris Exactly, you just proved my point, Russia proposed the freeze and had fewer arms, hence, it was to Germany's advantage. Nicholas called the world's first peace conference and received the same reaction to it then as you have now. Germany also felt that the whole thing was folly and silly. Germany was even unable to agree an attempt at peace in principle. I actually do give up now. It was a historic world first and many nobly followed. Nicholas deserves full credit for that. End.

@cholmain You misunderstand. How was it to Germany's advantage to scuttle its ships and spike its cannons when it's so much stronger than Russia? Why would Germany accept equality with Russia if it's already a lot stronger than Russia? Say you and you're friend are collecting baseball cards, and he has a lot more than you, so you say "No more collecting! Let's throw them all away!" Why would he agree to that? He loses much more than you, same with this scenario. It was only to Russia's advantage

@LordClaremorris The Kaiser was in fact irritated to distraction. "The World greeted the Tzar's appeal with nothing but skepticism and scorn." And no one was even remotely prepared for such a thing and the World also reacted with astonishment. King George V said it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. And George sure made it up to him by blocking his and his family's passage to Britain after it was approved by parliament, leading to their eventual deaths. What sort of ally was he!?
