Personally I liked the movie, my standards for movies are extraordinarily low. I don't try to break down and analyze every part of a movie, pointing out things that don't make sense or are just plain extraneous.
That said, I really enjoy your movie reviews because it gives me an insight on the perspective of someone whose knowledge and wisdom I truly commend. Anxious to see them all.

I would give all video game based movies 1/10 they are all lame this movie,Double Dragon,Mortal Kombat,Resident Evil,Bloodrayne,they have nothing to do with the game except for character names,Its bad when a CG game based movie is better then the one with real people not counting the shit piles Final Fantasy Spirits Within and Final Fantasy VII AC

You got a lot of points wrong in reviewing the film, though that's understandable since not every element of the film is easily understood. I at least appreciate that you acknowledged the good acting and special effects, which were revolutionary for their time.

Otherwise, the personality of the directors were snobbish and its likely that it led to the film being meta over being a VG film, rather doing it like say, a normal comic/toy line film adaptation of before. that means its not to character at all.
The story could be better had it been based more on the first's manual synopsis as a basis, as it feels more children's book-esque. If done right, they could have made something good for a lot of people, and maybe add bits of humor.
@SmackersLP You know as I was doing this feature, I quizzed a bunch of people I know about what they felt the best and worst video game movies were, and most of them listed super mario bros as the most. I can only conclude that they just haven't seen that many because oh man...it gets so...so much worse.

Agreed when it first came out i thought it would be like the videogame but wasn't. they need to make another mario movie but done the right way either cgi or live action it could kick ass.
My problem with this film is that they altered its fantasy theme, which wouldn't have any impact on the story in any bad way at all. A 48M dollar budget would be given more justice, as I mean, BatMan89 had a 30M dollar budget and look at Highlander 2 with its huge seamless city set.
TMNT was already out and kids would be psyched, with parents just waiting to take their kids to see it. In fact, some people still being in the spirit of that is the only reason it made 20M anyhow.
What about Cloak & Dagger, does that count? It was based off an arcade game. It came out in 1984.
