Great Lessons Benny but the music carrying over into the lesson is very distracting while listening for proper enunciation. And when viewing many lessons back to back the Jackson Five gets old VERY quick. im not the dude who made this video but im taking chinese as of now in highschool and there is no specific alphabet. there are however tone marks, pinyin (which is how to say a character in like, english sounds) and the charcters which is very difficult. chinese is a lvl 4 language so what it takes people who are taking lvl 1 languages like spanish only a year to learn ( basics ) takes us 4 years. by the end of year one you should have over 200 charcters memorized which is kinda depressing lol

i thought "to want" was xiang. at least that is what they taught us in high school. we would say " Wo bu xiang na ge, wo xiang zhe ge" or does it really matter

i'm not sure what those marks are called so i'll call them tone markers.

in ZHE GE and NA GE they all have tone markers pointing the same way but how come the GE tone is different in sound from ZHA and NA? same with WO.. some WO (I) sounds different in some sentences. this is what confuses me about chinese.

They are part of the pinyin and they indicate tones.

1st tone is the flat tone such as huān in xi huan.

2nd tone is the rising tone, indicated as a diagonal mark rising towards the right

3rd tone is the falling/rising such as wǒ

4th tone is the falling tone, such as bù.
