  • I got nothing against country music, really, but this is so White, Oh my Gawd, i can hardly understand that it got to #2 in the country. i think there must be a lot of CM fans in the country that pushed it up the charts, just like all the faceless CBS watchers that kept "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" on the air for years despite no one ever admiting they watched that show!!

  • @TheMacgrurry My mom never missed "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", and I still have this original 45 rpm by Freddy Weller, I don't have to play it anymore because of this video.

  • Old memories!

  • love it. thanks for sharing

  • Ironically I first Heard this on American Bandstand Freddt was also in Paul Revere and The Raiders

  • Great song! Thanks for posting. I must have been 14 0r 15 when I first heard this. Brings back memories.

  • @NanMarTren I was only 3 when it came out but my mom use 2 play it all the x on her stereo as I grew up. It's the only version I like. Only version I'm use 2, really.

  • Better Than Joe South's Version

  • Joe South wrote it, and did it justice. This is a lot more country, more twang, well done, but just understand who wrote it.

  • KTYN 1430 Minot

  • i grew up on the farm listening to ktcr all the time--great music

  • Freddy actually wrote this song for Joe South, then recorded it himself. Also wrote other hits such as Indian Lake, Lonely Women Make Good Lovers and many other big hits for other singers. Great songwriter and very talented singer.

  • @JHaml100 Joe South wrote it.

  • @JHaml100 If that's true somebody better tell the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences they gave the Grammy to the wrong guy for Song of the Year for 1969 LOL, (it was given to Joe South as Songwriter for this song that year).

  • Best version of a great original!

  • I like this version a lot. :) Although I like Joe South's original and Conway Twitty's cover as well. I guess it would be hard to make a bad version of a song this good. :)

  • This is the perfect rendition that's number one in my book

  • Yes indeed, I too remember this on KTCR-FM! Thanks for posting!

  • On Sept. 9,1947 Freddy Weller was born, this is Sept. 9, 2010 so Happy Birthday Freddy!!!

  • best version ive heard, love you Freddy Weller.

  • my favourite version of a great song.as an artist i used to sing his song "good old fashioned music is the answer"--have only got it on vinyl--when will i get a "clean" version.also what about his spine tingling "i'll get over you, getting over me"

  • i had this song on a cd, but lost it. I've been looking for this version for a while thank you!

  • it is very good but I do prefer Joe South's version

  • @ProgressiveJoeWest In my opinion this version is weak rip off and should be destroyed and never played again Joe South is the best and on one should ever sing this but him. This is as weak as The Dixie Chicks cover of "Landslid."

  • Very good version!!!

  • He was a great singer!!!

  • Great song from my youth!

  • I bought this album back in 1969 while the tune was still hot on the charts. Great album, which includes "These Are Not My People." The pedal steel playing of the late, great, Red Rhodes is all over the record with some of the best playing ever. I remember how my dad thought I'd bought "hippy music" when I came in the house with the record, due to Freddy's long hair. He liked the music though.

  • I still have this on the original 45 rpm. This is the ONLY version as far as I'm concerned. The sweetest pedal steel line I've ever heard.

  • @clintonearlwalker You & me both. Joe South is good but, like you, that pedal sound is just sweet :)

  • CadillacL I'm not very familiar with the Joe South version, I may have heard it a couple of times. My dad bought the single by Weller in about 1969. I would have been about 8. I compare any steel line I hear to this one. Another good song I remember from this period is "Sweet Pea" by Tommy Roe. Cheers!!

  • Being raised on country, the first version for me was Freeddy's. I heard Joe's version latter. :)

  • this is good but i like joe south`s version better

  • Great!

  • WOW this guy is GREAT thanks for bringing this out. I hope I hear more from him in the future. BTW I loved the Raiders but only knew the 2 main characters.

  • Another goodun* Thanks Wilbur keep um coming!

  • WOW! I use to have a copy of this on tape, hadn't heard this in years. This is my fav. version :) Thanks for posting! I

  • ,mmkmkmmk

  • KTCR-FM in Minneapolis played this in 1969 and I never knew who sang this version UNTIL NOW!! Thanks so much for posting. Love it!

  • Joe South Wrote it, and Played it back then.

  • Freddie Weller's "Games People Play" album was released in 1969. Thanks.

  • Wilbur--

you're The Man! I am so glad someone (YOU) posted this version, the Original versus one of those horrible re-recordings.

    Really, a ton of thanks!

  • @RedneckBeatnik The original? Wasn't this song written and performed by Joe South in 1968? Weller's cover came out in 1969.

  • Love it! thanks for sharing with us.

  • wow..that was old & good.

Remember years ago, mybee middle -70 ?
