Ronnie's Yorkville recording from around 1966 is a much better version. Re-recording it in this style wasn't necessary and doesn't do the song justice. But I gather that original version isn't available anywhere. I bought it on a 1967 compilation album called "Yorkville Evolution." If you like this song you will love that one, if you can find or if I can figure out how to post it.
I like the slower cadence of this version of Gordy's song. Usually Ronnie's style is a bit wilder and crazier but this song shows he has a gentler side to his nature.
I like Ronnie...but this song is more country than rock and roll. I watched him on 'Last Waltz' movie with The Band and there he was more rock.....!!!!!!!!!
The best version of this song is on Yorkville YVS 33002 album.
It was recorded at Bay Studios....not sure what year.
