Ah yes...back in 77/78 Getting Stoned with Janie, listening to this song. Never forget you, you were a little fireplug and I should have jumped your bones, but I knew the chemistry wasn't there for the long term. I also didn't want to be a rebound guy when you were thinking about your ex. Still, you were an important part of my life. Thanks for all the good weed and conversation!
I saw him live with the then-new love of my life at the Universal Ampitheater(before it had a roof)on August 9, 1977. Security told me, "TWO photos, and that's it." The photos are long gone, but the memory is lifelong. A totally unique genre of music(I've BEEN to the "blue-tiled walls near the market stalls") with one of the greatest women who ever lived. ;])
I think that this is just one of those songs that is just a pleasure to listen to. It's just so well crafted and arranged, and Al Stewart's voice is just so great to listen to.
I think that's why this song is still a favorite of mine after all these years.
I love love love love this song no more like that today, bad times thank God for this music no more like this in this world. The world is to wicked. Thank God for the memories, Thank God. Love and pease and soul forever. Love you Al Steward love you forever may God bless you..
In the '76 I was 14 and I was in love, was so long ago but this song ring through my ears and push my heart as if it were yesterday. Thanks to post this video.
@VincentVega8111 in 1976 I was 5 going on 6, but I still remember these classic songs while with my mom going to school, great music even though being a teen in the 80s era, still great 20th century music.
Classic piano intro. Kudos to the band ! ! Cool video. Thanks for posting it. It's ALWAYS neat to see the song performed instead of still photos & an album cover. Al Stewart ROCKS ! ! !
On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat
OlimpoMarcelo 1 day ago
She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat
OlimpoMarcelo 1 day ago
Well, she looks at you so coolly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat
OlimpoMarcelo 1 day ago
Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice and lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drumbeat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat
