Whenever I hear the "no atheists in foxholes", I think of how someone can admit themselves to be an atheist in the army when they're treated like crap by the army :| It also makes me wonder who would fight for a country where not even seen as second class citizens. I think I remember a quote from a black guy who said something along the lines "why should a negro join the army to defend a country which treats him horribly?".
It is horrible that you did not have access to the same benefits as all other soldiers simply because the guys in charge didn't like your world view. You are not the only person I have heard speak about this. We, as taxpayers, should speak out loudly and often about this. And by the way, thank you for serving!

I still got strange looks when I didn't stand and prey at dinner etc but my life was never in the balance thankfully. That NCO woman should have been reprimanded. On remembrance day we the unit go to church but that is being fazes out and thou there are still preys at the parade for remembrance day I look at it this way the people we are remembering were for the most part religious and would want the preys.
I wish you luck. When I joined the Canadian Army seventeen years ago if you didn't go to the servives you did work so I would go and sleep in church. They didn't like that but the preist was cool and called the dogs off me. Things changed very quickly in the canadan forces and religious belief is no problem and being an atheist is just fine mostly
