Just thought I'd let you all know that Edan also samples "I'm in Great Shape" by The Beach Boys" on this song. The hammering and drill sounds come from this rarity from the "Smile" Album recordings. Edan dug pretty deep on his samples for this song!
Years later i still get that tingle up my spine with the build up to Lif's part. You hear the saws and hammers like hes literally building the beat as he records it. So organic. This whole album is amazing.
@mynameisnotalfredo I could see where you would suggest that, but Edan comes in real smooth and shit with the ill bassline...then handed off the best part of the beat after all that build-up to Lif... I think they really shared the workload 50/50 on this.
Best song on the album. I first heard edan about 7 or 8 months ago just fooling around on youtube. I love old rock and jazz and shit like that and I always wondered what it would sound to just take raw cuts and rap over them....looks like somebody be me too it. :)
sooo good! Edan keeps it so real and lif tearz it up! I saw edan live once, and his turntable malfunctioned so he did the whole set acoustic with one deck going. Doesnt get betta than that! This is also possibly the best hip hop cd cover ever.
Often hoppin out of coffins steady rockin while you rottin!!! Mr Lif a madman, just like Edan. I do not fucking see what the fuck all the tuff guys and thugs and most of everybody sees in mainstream bullshit garbage music. This is quality I am proud to own, and will never part with.
@Windfall32 I question this. Edan lays it up and sets the premise for all the guests he gets on board, Lif's verse on this is mega dope no doubt, always gets additional notches on the volume when it hits, but what makes it shine so hard is in part Edan's genius production. Lyrically it's a little loaded and awkward in spots.
@bympy I'm pretty sure most of the song is the bass line or at least a very similar chord progression of Hey Joe - Hendrix. So i guess it was a collaboration that made this beat :P. Pretty slick.

@ilovelincecum That's from the original track, Water, by Michael Greer.

Is it just me or does Lif just overshadow Edan's rhymes on this track?
mynameisnotalfredo 1 year ago
@mynameisnotalfredo Nah I think he does too, but I think Edan was going for that since it is one of the only songs he has Mr Lif spit on.
But I could be wrong. Trust no one.

The main sample behind Edan's part is from The Music Machine's terrible cover of Hey Joe. The beat behind Lif's part is Michael Greer - Water
