  • Wow ! (Sobbing!) I remember seeing this movie more than 20 years ago I have never forgot it, this story has been passed verbally to my kids and hope they pass it on to their kids !!

My point is, for people to be most receptive to the message, given how much Christmas is a per-requisite of the plot, it'll have to be around that time. Otherwise it can be like "Ughh, Christmas? Don't depress, me, that's still 6 months away!".

It's a double-edge sword attaching a film to a holiday, on the one hand you can freely associate your picture with the good feelings that tend to surround it, on the other, people tend not to want to watch them at any other time.

  • @Alaskaslim I don't really understand why some people take Christmas as that expensive time of year. You don't have to buy something for everyone you and their dog too..People go way overboard at Christmas and spend the next 6 months paying for it. Christmas has and always will be my favorite time of year. I always put the lights up outside on my dads house. It was fun and I enjoyed it every year to stand out on the street and look at them all lite up. December 25th is also my birthday.

^ Feel kind of sorry for you then, not because of presents then being what you get for both, but in that you're birthday is supposed to be YOUR day, when people give you attention, but your day is actually Christ's, Can't exactly grab the spotlight away from him (pretty sure that's a sin).

My B-day is March 31st, which every so often falls on Easter, or more to the point, Good Friday. Now THAT can get awkward "I'm a year older, YAY! And my Savior died today! Uh... booh?"

  • @Alaskaslim I never got special attention on my birthday. My parents tried to seperate Christmas and my birthday. I never had birthday cake because of the season with all the baking of cookies and pies. You might say that my birthday cake was birthday pie. My mother always tried to give me a birthday party but before Christmas vaction began. This way my classmates could celebrate my birthday with me but early. Don't feel sorry for me. My parents made sure my sisters and I had good Christmas's.

  • I saw this Picture when I was real little..My sister and I cried many times. I was a projectionist in a small town theatre for 17 years, collected film and looked for this picture many times but never found it available. I would like to have run a special free feature around Christmas time to show it on the big screen for those who wanted to see it. Something like this would have brought a few family values back into the lives of those who would have seen it.

While I like this film, it's also rather... manipulative. The dark elements come up so often and have such a strangle-hold on the plot, that modern audiences would be strained not to see it from a dark-humor perspective.

For a film that taught values while refraining from beating you over the head with sadness, I liked "I Remember Mama" far more. That film also directly addressed the concern of lost tradition, and isn't seasonal, you can screen it any time of year.

  • @Alaskaslim Do you know when "Miracle On 34th Street" was released? So called seasonal pictures shouldn't be limited to the times they are watched. If you enjoy a certain picture, why can't you watch it any time of the year..I've even watched "White Christmas" in July.."I Remember Mama", yes, it was very good and I enjoyed it too.

  • Cameron Mitchell puts me in the mind of Tom Jones quite a bit. I've never seen this movie but so far it's really good. Good cast. I'm settling back and ready to enjoy it. Thanks for the uploads!
