your vibro champ sounds no were near as nice as mine, mine sounds better than both of these amps, not sure the vibro champ was set up right here, it comes across with a lot less bass than the 600, and as the 600 does not have a knob for this, U should be setting the vibro bass to 10, to make it even out, I have played the 600, and it is no were near as nice as my vibro champ, do U agree ? vibro champs are better amps, if they made them today, they would be in the £850 price bracket, 4times a 600
@slpplexi1969 I understand that, but the 600 is no match for the vibrochamp IMO, we hooked a 600 up to a 2*12 cab, and it still sounded avarage, we did the same with the vibrochamp and it sounded like a bassman, it was as good as my 1971 bassman 50, the circuit on the vibrochamp is far better than the 600, if U had to compair it to an amp today, the vibrochamp would stand along side a princeton amp, with no reverb, which they don't make anymore, but if they did, that is what range it would be in
@slpplexi1969 the vibrochamp did not have the bass my bassman had through it's cab, I must stress that, but that is due to how much my bassman can put out, with the bigger transformer ect, but it's tone was their, and the natural tube overdrive of the vibrochamp sounds amazing through a 2*12, even through it's 8" it sounds good, thinking of boxing the original speaker up, and sticking a weber in mine, not alnico tho, I am looking for headroom, have U tried any other speaker ? results ?
Most of what you're hearing is the difference in speakers. I don't know why they saddled the Champion 600 with a tiny 6" speaker. It's a real tone killer. I see a lot of expensive mods around that involve swapping out the transformer etc. But if you simply run into a 12" speaker the sound is improved more and is cheaper to do. Put a tube screamer in front, and it's great. On the other hand, for the money you've now spent you could buy a used Classic 30 and have something big enough to gig with.
Yes - the champs are going through their own speakers - I am using effects in front of the amps. What is funny - with my recorder a 12" speaker sound horrible - however, the little 8" and 6" speaker sound great. In the Vibro Champ I have a Jensen MOD and in Champion 600 I have a Weber Alnico.
I would like to rent out that room please. : ) Squater's Rights!!! Man, they both sound great. I really want to build a Vibro Champ with Reverb, I have the schematics but I haven't figured out how to do it yet? Plus no time. Triode has a great kit, after seeing this vid, I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger! Thanks again for this vid!!
I agree.

They both sound good, but I prefer the slightly warmer tube tone on the Champion 600. The Vibro sounds more like a modern hybrid, still good tho.

@UKToneKing I hope you realize that it would sound much better if you were in the room with them. This wasn't recorded in a studio.

I rebuilt the amp myself. You can get most of the parts from places like Mojotone or Tube Depot.

You can hear the mid cut in the champion 600. It still baffles me why they didn't think it worthwhile to make that switchable.

I have since added a bright cap - for lowever volumes and a nice Weber Alnico speaker. Much Better.

are we listening the champ through its own speaker? or are you using a cabinet?

Champ 600 with verb - how you do it?
EricDMyers 3 years ago
I have a Fender Tube Reverb. It was a 62 reissue, however, I removed the printed Cuircit Board and installed a Point to point cuircut,

You should have done a before and after, with the reverb, and posted it!

why so much gear in your room? are you a studio musician?
stymye 3 years ago
No - I just like using vintage gear. Live - it sounds better. If I am playing somewheer I usally hit all the area music stores.
