  • Under-rehearsed... Phil Collins should never have been playing on this if he didn't know the song well enough... Plant not accepting the fact that his voice isn't what it had once been... Page out of tune, sloppy, stoned, and spitting all over himself... not the Zeppelin I want to remember...

  • I must say Led Zeppelin is very good

    but Queen owned this gig

  • @geodati To be fair, Bonzo wasn't playing the drums. It's been rumored, even though Phil Collins and the rest of the living members of the band are friends, that they were disgusted in the way the drums were played by both Collins and Tony Thompson. Queen, on the other hand, had a complete line up.

  • page looks like hes having a goood time

  • I can tell you why Jimmy sound does not sound like his normal sound...The amp...He his playing through a Marshall JCM800 and this is why. Probably straight out of the box and not configured for him. I know this from my own experience. I have Marshall Super Lead 100's and the 50 watter of the same type as Jimmy used. Big difference! I had the same kind of amp he is playing here, and for years I could not get the same sound as my others. If out of box, they did not have the real deal of tubes in USA.

  • @intothearena1 ...It's kind of like using a not so manufactured part for your car and a substitute..It will run,but not run as good... But the funny thing,I had this same amp exactly like this!!! Terrible! I fixed it myself...It had 3 trips to 3 different techs and I never heard a change.I fixed it myself and it quickly sounded like Jimmy's tone with more push! So,that explained it,an "out of box" amp. In them days, the tubes they used in their amps ran out,so they used substitutes.Real bad....

  • I actually like it...Just remember, this is really"LED ZEPPELIN & FRIENDS"!!!,NOT: "LED ZEPPELIN"...John Bonham had passed, so they probably figured do it for the people who needed it for their health. I also like the bass guitar here. I always loved this song live and everyone of them sounded different especially in the solo section. Yeah, I must agree with shows past the Physical Graffiti(75-76 tour)are in a little disarray. But the In Though The Out Door concerts are real sad...

  • @intothearena1....If anyone has the Knebworth show from 79, Jimmy is sweating only past the 1st song and just looks so frail. It was sad and definitely not funny. I have been a fan forever in my lifetime. This song sounds better here than Knebworth. At least Page is playing good. There are timing issues and I heard Phil start to count with his sticks 1 verse before the start. This gig should be considered for fun and charity to help the ultra ill people, not about the performance....continued..

  • @intothearena1 ...About Phil talking about this gig...Terrible..Only thinking of himself. Jimmy can say that because he wrote the stuff and Phil should have got together to discuss how to do the show. Obviously, Tony(the other drummer who held it together) already seemed like he knew how Zeppelin played. Phil stops in sections..He just stops!!! He should just say"I really have not listened to them much"or"I listen to them, but never played to the music"..Let's put it on Jimmy..Nope,lets not!!!

  • @intothearena1 ...This was arranged fast I believe..Whole Lotta Love:Phil stops and don't know what to do. Jimmy's mistake was to have him play. They were probably friends then and he asked him to play, but it turned into a "let's blame the other guy". Clearly, I Jimmy is playing clean and Plant is trying to sing it like the studio recording. About the bass...I love the live versions to death, but there was no bass just keys making bass=hollow. Here it sounds fuller. But John is missed:Bonham IS #1

  • Phill Collins is great! But it's not zep without bonham but still a awesome performance!

  • the keyboarding wasn't that good

  • An Oboma policy in reverse.

  • 7:21 a piece of Plants tamborine goes flying off

  • 45 seconds in Jimmy gives a nod of appreciation.

  • zeppelin didnt choke of course it sounds shitty with that drummer lol and the crowd doesnt rage to a slower song like stairway so they didnt choke like i said queen stole the show

  • queen stole the live aid 1985

  • they needed 2 drummers to replace Bonzo...

  • Why did EVERY girl @ the Jr. High & High School dance always shriek

"OH MY GAWD THIS IS MY SONG!!!" every single time Stairway to Heaven began to play??? (circa 1976,77,78,79,80, etc.) lol

  • @IsItEarthYet because it was the mojo keep on rising soza

  • @passingpoor When you can control people in two opposite sides of the world, in different continents... Let's just e glad Freddie was in music & not in politics cos that's crowd control for you there if I'd ever seen one.

  • @passingpoor I don't think they choked it's just that the mood or feel wasn't there. It just wasn't the same. Queen on the other hand was just brilliant, they could do no wrong. They were so good that during their set on "radio gaga" when everyone did the clapping thing the wembley crowd did it & 90,000 people in RFK stadium clapped as well in unison with England because at that same time there was a satellite hook up enabling them to see it.

  • Plant didn't kill it, these guys choked........bad

  • crap.....where does the time go?

  • one of the most greates moments in rock history cannot top that!!!!!

  • Best song ever :D

  • but this was the only jimi page that speechless disgust

  • 7:20 a piece flys off Roberts muraka

  • Is plant wearing jimmys shirt from the knebworth concert

  • John Bonham is the greatest drummer rock and roll will ever have, no one could have ever replaced him.

  • Robert's smile at 1:15 is priceless..

  • I was there. It was hot. We waited all day for Zeppelin. It sounded like a trainwreck that day and it still does!

  • I remember this day. I hurried home from work to watch this live. Led Zeppelin live together again. WOW what a day. Thank you for this :) Means so much to me and my love ones.

  • According to Wikipedia Phil Collins also performed in London the same day??? On another continent???

  • @queenville yes via Concorde, if I remember right the plane flew over the stadium, those were the days !

  • @queenville He performed in london first, then after he was done he hopped on the Concorde to Philadelphia.

  • Plant was almost warming up by this number!

  • Comment removed

  • at 0:29 wtf was jimmy doing haha?

  • @NathanThompsonMusic LOL"S it looks like he wants his guitar sound a bit higher.

  • you cock ,john bonham had been dead 4 years by now lol ,

  • the dogs bollocks

  • Phill collins as adrumer ?

  • @bing1769 yes phil as a drummer, ive played for 27 years and i regard bonham as the best recorded drummer, collins comes real close, listen to some of his 70's stuff with genesis, the problem with collins he broke the 'rules' and went pop, still a hell of a drummer though

  • @bing1769 Nope, The drumer are john bonham , The Best Drumer of History!

  • @bing1769 yes, in the end

  • @bing1769

man....who cares? see him as a drummer, not as some "easy-listening-jerk"

  • @bing1769 Apparently the song went brilliantly until Phil kicked his drums

  • @bing1769 you can see by the look on plant and pages faces - that it aint right

  • @bing1769

    Yes :)

  • @bing1769 phil collins is a drummer...he started with drums...

  • @bing1769 err....Genesis?

  • @bing1769 he was the drummer for Genesis.

  • It's time for a Live Aid Reunion Concert. Led Zeppelin can be the final act, and this can be the final song. Then our lives will be complete.

  • @top20modernrock The only thing missing would be John Bonham and Freddie Mercury RIP

  • @Queen4Ever21 Don't forget Jam Master Jay. RIP.

  • @Queen4Ever21 ...and by the way, nothing has changed in Somalia, which was the cause and point of Live Aid. Perhaps they can get it right this time?

  • @top20modernrock I agree in 100%.

  • @JuliansGuitarCovers

I'm afraid you're mistaken about the Beatles. They weren't even the best of their era. Have you forgotten about the Stones?

  • @silly0arse and the beach boys? you can't deny the genius of brian wilson!

  • @silly0arse

Maybe you are the mistaken one. Nobody tops the oooh sooo mighty Beatles, not in my estimation, nor that of the gen pub. I love the Stones, the Who, the Kinks, Dylan & CCR, to name but a few other '60s bands, but no one ever came close to the aforementioned best.

  • @bodsnvimto

Thank you for your clearly considered reply. Such a shame it only amounts to something beginning with 'B'... But, at the risk of picking an argument for the sake of picking an argument, that's the trouble with opinions: other people's seldom cut it, rather like replies on Youtube (!)

  • @silly0arse

You make good points. I enjoy good, healthy, fiery debate but the problem with the anonymous format such as this - as I'm sure you are aware - is that it too quickly leads to personal insults & vile nastiness of a sort you wouldn't see in real life. Or to put it another way: cowards quickly become bullies.

    Cheers.

  • amazing song

  • is page high?

  • @CalebePriester

    Is grass green?

  • @hooragood are you a joker?

  • @CalebePriester

    nah, a midnight toker

  • 24 dislikes? 24 that will never understand.

  • I wish i were born earlierer, to see them there -.-

  • @JuliansGuitarCovers so paul has most talent in bass than john paul jones?

  • fantastic!

  • @JuliansGuitarCovers : I think they're all lengendaries. It's difficult to choose which band is the best.

Thanks God for bringing them tos us, thanks them for their great music.

  • Why Phil Collins +1 on drums?

  • @SteveO11990 it's because it takes two to do the job of one John Bonham, my friend.

  • Anyway you look at this, it's Epic!!

  • La plus belle chanson du monde. Le plus grand groupe du monde.... Que la magie continue pour l'éternité.....

  • Who is the drummer?

  • @TheGemShoot phil collins

  • @TheGemShoot Tony Thompson from Power Station played drums during the Zeppelin set, Phil Collins joined in for a couple of songs if I remember correctly.

  • huge mistake having that bass guitar there...Stairway didn't have bass guitar, just Fender Rhodes piano bass.

  • 7:20 robert loses piece of his tambourine lol

  • They needed two drummers to almost recreate Bonham's sound...

  • about 7.20 any one see the tamberine brake ?

  • Why there are only 856 likes? It's too few for a lengend.

  • kinda like having sex but didn't copulate...where was that epic ending! I would think like after about ten yars from the original cut he could have still been able to deliver on the end of the song ..but maybe he wanted to save the voice for more sets later...

  • It's kind of funny that Page dropped his pick and somebody handed it to him in the middle of the song.

  • Comment removed

  • Page wasn't high or drunk in this that was just something they said to mask his playing. I've seen him play this solo & SIBLY solo in the mid to late 70's stoned out of his mind & drunk & he still nailed it. This was just a poor performance.

  • @fairyfellermaster do you think they may have choked? and was Queens performance the final nail.

  • There were 2 drummers because Phil Collins wasn't ready to play any Zeppelin Music. He had just flown in from NY on the Concorde to play with Zeppelin after appearing on the NY Live Aid stage. He had never practiced with Zeppelin and didnot know the music; However, Collins was a superstar at the time, and he had been advertised as Zeppelin's fill-in Drummer so they put him back there and turned the mikes on his drums off, letting the other studio drummer keep the beat.

  • why 2 drummers ?!?

  • as much as i love zepellin...queen nailed this show....

  • @lilolay1970 you got that right. By all accounts when Queen took the stage & started playing people were like "shit, they're stealing the show". Their set was named the greatest performance in history, that says it all.

  • Not so bad until the guitar solo - terrible! That's what happens when you try to play the guitar when you're completely drunk and stoned - out of time, and out of tune!

  • @LeoLiar905: Awesome clip! Great job cleaning it up too.

  • is that phil collens on the drum?

  • @mynorthensoul yeah...special collaboration...

  • 8:47 my pick just melted gimme a new one

  • Oh wow it's so crappy and depressing! It's like a counter revolution, messy and mean.

  • who's on bass? kinda ruins everything...

  • @N10BASS Paul Martinez. He played in the Vasco Rossi Band in Italy in the 90's too.

  • I think Jason Boham should have been on the kit,he was 19 in 85 and he play's drum's..just thought it would have made John(R.I.P) proud! Still a great job!

  • I remember when Phil Colins said: I have a friend, he is singing very good and his name is Robert Plant :)) Merry Christmas from Serbia !

  • I think the band were wrong to blame Phil Collins for the poor performance. A lot of the comments below are correct, but I'm glad somebody captured this cos it's not on the DVD of the concert (in fact it doesn't even mention Led Zep were there). They were the greatest band of all time IMHO and one of the top live bands too, but sometimes their perfectionism went too far.

Guys, even on a bad day, you're still brilliant.

  • Robert Plant....the finest rock vocalist of all time - Daltrey, Gillan, Rodgers, Coverdale, Marriott and were unbelievable but Robert takes the Crown!

  • Led Zeppelin thought this performance was below their standard - THAT is why they became the finest LIVE ROCK Band of all!

  • THEY ARE WASTED

  • I will never forget the day i seen this and Jimmy looked completely out of it with the way he flutters his lips and as always tries his best and still manages to get it done. What i really wanted when they were to go on stage was to be there long before many other bands.U can see the frustration while Page is trying to make his sound like a concert from the past.I was disapointed but not that tuned out and i was feeling very smashed while i waited for them. Can't be perfect all the time

  • This is Jimmy Page's least favorite performance. He called it "shambolic". I still think and many of us agree that it is still brilliant!

  • @Rainbowsixoperator1 Atlantic reunion is worse by a large margin.

  • hahahahha melting mess i think there all high and drunk u said it shredmaster

  • page begins to melt at the end ha ha

  • greatest led zepp performance of all time page wasted and smoking a joint plant missing his notes phil collins falling asleep the only one who know where he is here is john paul jones but u hardly see him as hes playing keyboard any way i like it i think its good to see musicians on stage in front of a billion people and not giving a fuck about it

  • @shredmaster100 he isint smoking a joint hes holding the plectrum in his mouth

  • led zepp r legends but u have 2 admit this is 1 of the worst performances of stairway they did robert messes up and comes in too early before jimmys finished jimmys so out of it hed have played forever phil collins is jet lagged and the only one who seems ok is john paul jones the end made me laugh u can c the look on plants face he wanted to get off that stage fast

  • 2 words. Car Crash.

Out of tune and out of time.

Page wasted. Plant missing can't hit his notes and is coming in too early. Collins doesn't know where the fu*k he is.

  • Rock n Roll is dead

  • in the 80,s it was but we did have metallica and guns n roses 2 look forward 2

  • Page is the whole problem! any musician can hear that he isnt keeping time AT ALL!

  • It seems that Jimmy Page is high as a madda fakker here, ha,ha!!!!

  • I agree with swearymary1967. There wasn't much effort put into this song. Robert started to loose his chops around this time. Today he sounds like total shit.

  • yeah i agree and plant went into pop music and producing weird 80,s videos at this time page went back into hios heroin habit god bless him and john paul jones vanished from planet earth i think he was abducted by aliens but seriously today plant page and jones are shadows of there former selves but no ones young forever except cliff richard but he has a deal with god where as led zepp were the first satanic rock band

  • I was crying watching this. John Bonham. Just, why, God, why? And also, why wasn't I born in the 50s or 60s so I could enjoy this music at its finest? Zeppelin forever. RIP BONZO.<3

  • Thats not John Paul Jones is it?

  • are you nuts? this is the worst effort on this song by them ever!!!!!!!

  • This is the best interpretation of Led Zeppelin. Stairs to heaven.

  • Ésta, es la mejor interpretación de Led Zeppelin.

  • to be the best

    you must beat the best

and no one has beating them ...............

  • @caperatlarge Actually the best to this day are still the Beatles. They come in at #1 in hundreds of countdowns, topped many polls & have been classified as such by most professional musicians & people in the business as such. Zeppelin is an awesome band but they're not THE best, pretty close though.

  • @caperatlarge yeah...eric clapton sure is a hard one to beat >:D

  • 6:58 .... holy shit thats alot of people

  • rispetto per phil collins, ma...in questo pezzo se ne va per i cazzi suoi

  • fantástico

  • Chuck Norris , cry now...

  • Grandi!!!!! x sempre!!!!!

  • good skill

  • Sloppy, drunk, wasted, out of tune..loose and raw...Page at his best!! Excellent classic..!

  • @MrFerdell ummm hes not out of tone at all lol

  • @zxc892 Compared to his usual singing it's below standard

  • @MrFerdell dont forget that the where in a hard time here;-)

  • Led Zeppelin....................FOREVER GODS!

  • queen pissed on everyone, the older acts were tired@out of date QUEEN ROOL

  • Robert Plant left his job at Best Buy to do this gig.

  • tune up that guitar man

  • jimi page looks like the texas chain saw massacre

  • C'mon Robert Plant, you can do something better than that...

  • rob, get out of the cacks and back to the leather man. you face says you miss the days

  • @ everyone.........get over it hes a sloppy player!!!!

  • Granted, this may not have been their finest hour. But you cant tell me you werent in tears just seein them together again.

  • More pot, less alcohol! Jimmy can have some coke too, none for me though :D

  • Epic!

  • @ichidabawm007 he's playing bass so JPJ could stay on epiano ;-)

  • @mister..shes been a dead a few years that might explain it

  • Is it just me or is Jimmy Page a sloppy player?

  • @LLB61959 Page is well known for "sloppy" playing - and I put that in quotes on purpose, because other guitarists can only hope to play that well

  • @fasterhorses

    what? LOL
