I use Zinc based batteries from Rayovac for things that lay around too long or from little use. I mean they are great for flashlights and such. 1 dollar for 2 d cells/c cells, or 4 AA/AAA for 1 dollar as well from Walmart. I dont mess with Rechargeable except for my wireless gaming headset. Alkalines have ruined my electronics for the last time.
I agree with this scam, the battery companys dont want you to save more money by buying there recharge batterys. This is how they make up the differance in there profits. They want your money as much of it. And notice its not a green, green color, its a neon color so its hard to notice. Thats how they scam. Great Review
Ouch, that capacity is way to low.......My rechargeable D batts are rated for 10,000 mah @ 1.2 volts. They also weigh a bit more than my standard alkaline D cells. There was another user on here with your same energizer cells that took it apart. Inside it's not exactly a AA cell, but some sort of shorter / fatter type cell.
Like the Knob Creek cough medicine there. I have been telling folks for years that they are wasting money on D cell stuff when you can get C or AA products.
For ArtisanTony: The composition of the battery determines the voltage, not the mAh capacity. Alkalines and Nickel Metal Hydrides (NMIH) run at a nominal 1.5 Volts until they lose the charge. Lithium Ion batteries run at 1.2 Volts. The voltages apply across all sizes given they are the same composition. The current capacity in milliampere hours is not the same for every battery, size, compositon, or manufacturer. Buyer beware. hnobleh
found the Energizer rechargeables don't hold a charge for mor than a few days after they've been used a few times , which I don't understand why , when they were new they would hold for about 6-8 weeks now there down to about 2-3 days
Unless you need a club in your line of work, you don't want to be hauling around huge flashlights with huge D-cells in them. There is just no need anymore if all you require is a bright long lasting light. Food for thought indeed. Thanks again Fred. We don't need the fancy music, we appreciate the useful info just as well. ;-)
I think that is the same bottle of Knob Creek in the background on several of your past videos. I am sensing it feels neglected. Send it my way and I will send it on its way this week!
The alkaline versions of these batteries do indeed have more power. You bought RECHARGEABLE batteries, they don't, and won't, "last as long" as alkaline batteries. You've done nothing here. The rechargeable, although its charge won't last as long, is built to drain at 200 mAh, whereas the AA is built to drain at 50mAh. The product that you have that needs a D battery expects a drain rate of 200 mAh, not the mere 50 mAh that you'll be at with your "trick". Your AAs will not last as long.
biggest thing about recharge batts is the mah rating ... the higher the better storage it has.. I buy generic ones on ebay.. I have some purple AA that are 2800 or 3200 and they last ok but they are from hong kong :).. but they are cheap as hell and they do work ok..
I guess I'm surprised you didn't notice the two pack of rechargeable D batteries were on the light side when you grabbed them. Anyway if you want a great set of rechargeable D size batteries search for Maha Energy. They make a set in their Powerex line that are 11,000mAh. Order online or find them local at a Batteries Plus.
This is why I love watching your vids. You always seem to find that product everyone needs but not have to pay out the ass for it just because big corporation knows we need it. Another GREAT job.
That's insane.. Very good eyes, Fred. I could hardly believe that the rechargeable D Cell weighed half of the normal one until you put them on the scale.. That is crazy! I consider that a scam.. They know exactly what they're doing, they just want people to buy their disposable batteries over and over and are willing to sell crappy rechargeable ones to "sway you" into buying the normal ones.
@sniper4usmc I did saw they were made cheaply but they simple work. Or just look for a better made version, I think there are several makers of products like this.
I really don't see it as a scam. The battery companies are just supplying battery sizes based on existing equipment. I thought the AA were 1.5 volts where the D were 1.2 volts so this could possibly affect some electronics. It would not affect flashlights but may affect something like a calculator or radio. I will give this a try though. Nice video fred!
@ArtisanTony Regular non-rechargeable D batteries are 1.5 Volts so it's the Energizer Rechargeable that is lower than the standard. This is another reason to say away from them.

I probably would have been curious enough to have cut open the D battery to see why it was so much lighter.
