  • Staple TV viewing as a kid in NYC in the 60' - 70's. Ask any NY'er and you'll that "Slip Mahoney" is how he's more often remembered.

  • Those Bowery Boys films may have been silly, and low-budget, but they were fun, and a staple for years on the old WPIX-TV (channel 11) in NYC on Sunday afternoons during the 60's and early 70's, when they aired under the banner "East Side Comedy."

Leo Gorcey's fate was a sad one. After his father's sudden death in 1956, he quit the series (Stosh Clements replaced him as "Duke"), took to the booze and was never able to stop. His liver blown, he died in '69, the day before his 52nd birthday.

  • Mugs forever!

  • Muggs McGinnis was Leo at his best. Slip with the Bowery Boys was more silly comedy, but Muggs with the East Side Kids was more hard edged, but still cool and funny.

  • Muggs McGinnis is better-remembered than Slip Mahoney?

    Fuggedaboutit.

  • There's a photo here..where Leo's character is being

threatened by Tony Caruso. While Miss.Chris MacIntyre is watching.

  • You are SLIP MAHONEY dude.

    And no one else.

And I should know. After all, I'm...

    Big Daddy

  • Great! I liked it. ANGELO

  • Great to hear Gorcey, Huntz Hall etc talk about their movie years. Man, they made lots of films and probably not a lot of money. I loved the Bowery Boys series when I was a kid. Thanks for posting, Gregg30!

  • Are you kidding? Leo made tons of money.

  • These vids are so well done. Thanks for posting them! Greg
