@TPS996 mmm, i don't think so. not entirely sure on this response, i should know considering i'm actually helping people get to the commercial ratings, but uhm, as far as i know, you NEED to have the Multi-Engine Ratings,
davister, What happenned to me was flying the Cessna caravan on a UPS feeder route for Airnow. It's as easy as flying a Cessna 172. When it's empty, it can even use the same fields. You can dive it! I felt better knowing that in the highly unlikely event my engine did fail, there was more metal between me and the treetrunks.
eclipse is not that good, i went with my dad to test it (yes my dad is ATP, CFI and i am a pilot also) and it was a complete failure talking about what they promised, we couldnt go up above FL18 and the thing barely got to 210 kts (indicated) and it took it almost 20 minutes to climb to 18000 feet and conditions were just above standard... i was expecting something better but if u are thinking about a VLJ dont go for the eclipse...
True, its cheaper at 900k even with twins and with optional whole plane parachute, personally I would prefer the Maverick smart jet then most VLJ coming on the market.
To be honest and not made mad by other people with poor comments; I dont like the exterior design of this plane. Maybe its because it doesnt have a paint job, but this peticular one I dont like...But it was a test plane(Maiden)
In ten years time, D-Jet is one of the best selling single engine Jet aircraft in the market.Look's like this aircraft is designed by a highly experienced aeronautic engineering team.
Unlike other aircrafts, the cockpit is well designed to move the pilot's legs around and it feel's comfortable. The Steering wheel is better and will give the pilot a good flying feeling then the joystick
We're looking at the end of the light twins people. These jets are safer and easier to fly than light twins. As far as failure of the single engine goes, they can glide better and land as slowly as any high performance single plus in an emergency, you don't have to worry about the prop. Also, these new jet engines are much less complicated than piston engines and much less likely to fail.
I completely agree, VLJs truly are the next generation of airplane. However, they won't become mainstream until the prices can be significantly lowered.
What will people use to train for multiengine flight? The Seminole and even the Diamond Twin Star are used extensively for that purpose at many of the major aviation universities. Plus, with the Twin Star using diesel engines, it'll survive the transition from 100LL much easier.
@davister5213 Good point. I got my multi in a Cessna 310. You will need the multi for airline and corporate flying, so light twins still have a market in the training role. I just don't see why you'd pay a million bucks for a light twin for private use when you can get a single engine turboprop or VLJ. If you can't afford to fuel a turbine, you're better off in a single anyway.
@Bill1275w does flying on this account for Multi-Engine and twin turbine flying hours though?
i mean me looking to become a commercial pilot after my active duty military career, those Multi-Engine and TT hours are extremely crucial to get into the majors, ME time only for regionals.
@Sharod101 You're right. You need ME hours. This jet isn't just for the pros. That's the breakthrough! A jet for the rest of us! I strugggled for 4 years as a CFI and in 135 cargo. I soloed at 16 and got my private at 17. If I was smart, I'd have gone into the medical field. The "glamor" of aviation is not worth the poverty and risk. You can be a nurse in 2 years and make more than most airline pilots. Don't waste a penny on an "aviation career". It's a total jip!
@Bill1275w yea i know all the harsher sides of aviation, but as your seniority increases, things get better, i mean i've spent at least 2 hours configuring all monthly and yearly salaries in addition to hours garunteed per month/year, for all regional airlines, and yea its pretty rough. it gets better as you go up.
my plan is to fly in the army first after hopefully accomplishing 4 years at Westpoint, do my flying career, drop to the reserves and fly my way up to majors. more on my page.
@Sharod101 I know the love and how strong it is. I've felt it for most of my life. I was a Civil Air Patrol cadet and the kid that spent all weekend hanging out at the airport. Go through the military if you must fly pro. Go to the PBS Frontline website and watch a report on the regionals from May 25. I hope you can avoid them.
@Bill1275w: I'm going to get in a partnership in a couple of years myself or maybe fly skydivers on weekends.
JM: What's the matter with you? You aren't listening. The future is talking to you, and telling you to don't go down the wrong path. Here, I'll say it again, The "glamor" of aviation is not worth the poverty and risk. You can be a nurse in 2 years and make more than most airline pilots. Don't waste a penny on an "aviation career". It's a total jip! There, OK?
These are my questions: When does the D-Jet go on sale to the public? Are they going to be like the Cerrus and offer pilot training with each purchase? What will the cost be, and, finally, what is the gph at cruising speed? Send me those answers. Thanks.
well, you figure if you run a small business - partner with a few other small businesses to buy one and it would cost about as much as an employee does a year...anyway not a hopeless dream and that's amazing for a JET! :)
whack on 4 under wing pylons for some hot ordinance a mil paint job and i'll take 4!

Technology is there but my God, this is probably the most ugly jet ever built.
They could not come with something more sexy after a half of century of jet designs? Pffff.

and the Citation Mustang and... possibly but unlikely the Hondajet and Piper will be the best VLJs...
The Cirrus and D-Jet are not fast enough, fuel efficient enough and will not have the same kind of range.
The Eclipse is also fantastic and is probably the best value VLJ.
This is all just my opinion though... we will have to wait and see.

I think the best VLJs will be:
1. D-jet
2. Eclipse 500
3. Citation Mustang
4. Piper Jet
5. HondaJet

wayner lol there is a press release on diamonds website talking about assembly lines in china :)
I truly hope not, but your CEO's, like everyone else are looking at cheap manufacturing and profits.
I will never consider buying any aircraft made in that country. It's bad enough alot of components already are.
