HOW CAN YOU GIVE CREDIT TO PEOPLE WHO SAY BEING INVENTORS OF THE AIRPLANE 1st (LAUNCHED BY propel), THAT BEING SAID IN YEARS BEFORE STEPPING ON THE MOON, WHICH IS WHY FANTASY WITH ALL MOUNTING STRUCTURE WILL NOT EVERY DAY?
There are also other people [...] claiming that they did it first, but, well, talk is cheap, and it's very easy after a solution is announced, to claim that you did it earlier.” - Elonka Dunin
If you look at the records you will see that the first few flights did not use the catapult at all The Wright Flyer took off directly under its own power. The catapult was a later refinement. Fact. In any case, before Santos Dumont really got his act together the Wrights were carrying passengers. Santos Dumont was indeed a great man but he was not the first to achieve powered controlled and sustained flight.
@spitfireJEJ My friend, which record? Please post the webpage or place I can check this suppose record. There are pictures or movies or somenthing to prove? I really want to believe... Come on help out here.
@mablus Try "The papers of Wilbur and Orville Wright" as held and published by the Smithsonian. Also, the famous photo of the first flight shows the trolley but not the none existent catapult. The letters written by the Wrights to Chanute outline the catapult development and its timing. It was all well documented from several sources. Take your pick my friend.
@jrlueken Dumont had the whole Paris as witnesses, and his plane flew by its own power. Also Dumont was the most famous man in the early 20th century and a real inventor. He invented the wrist watch! In the same year a Romanian called Traian Vuia also flew a heavier than air. But is difficult to compete with the American propaganda machine. BTW The replica of the 14 Bis flew in 2006, while the replica of the "Flyer" did not actually "fly" even after the US1.2 million spent on it!
@junglemanlawyer1 The wrist watch was invented by Monsieur Cartier after Santos Dumont had mentioned the difficulty of using a pocket watch in flight. Several replicas of the Wrights' first Flyer have flown successfully over the years as well as replicas of their preceding gliders and subsequent designs. The anniversary event you are doubtless referring to took place in conditions which were far from optimal for flight and if you look again you will see the engine is merely ticking over.
@jrlueken Hi brother of the North! No, a Brazilian did it self powered and officially, inventions & patents holds when officially dated. Most would say as Bill Clinton "I haven't inhaled" (no one is perfect, I really liked that your president anyway!), but that is not the way, or anyone could skip all your other cool inventors too and flag the same all over the world. Anyway, WE AMERICANS (you, the Canadians, the Central and we, the South Americans) did it, glad to share such glory with you!
Ainda não temos um DVD do filme, em breve pretendo lancar!

So sorry amigo. The Wright Bros. beat you to real heavier than air powered flight by THREE YEARS !!!
jrlueken 2 years ago
Hey man! Officially not, cause even if the Wrigth Bros. flew 3 years before, the propulsion to take off was external (catapult). So sorry my friend!

@jrlueken The Wright Bros. beated Dumont by 3 years with a picture of 1903 (?) and no audience.
The Brothers could fly really well thru courts.

Santos Dumont é para mim, um dos maiores gênios que passaram por nosso planeta. Belas imagens, e recomposição de época.
