Besides on TV I've never even seen someone on a snowmobile...but if that's a qualification for being a 'real person' more power to'em. ebay'ing snowmobiles they range from $1500 to $8000 USED! I consider myself a 'real person' and none of my hobbies or sports (if you consider this a sport, no offense to snowmobilers out there)require gear that is in the price range of a reliable used car; but then again I could'nt afford the $7000 trailer to go along with it either(ebay aswell).

Actually the sport is a lot cheaper than many like drag racing, yacht racing, horse racing, sports involving airplanes, etc. Even the overall expenses of maintaining a team and running the Iditarod can cost much more.

A trailer does not cost $7,000 either.
