@7477238 Yes, there are many traits the 500e has that an e500 doesn't, unless its an e500 W124 (94-95 models).
The 500e was hand built, the newer E500s were not.
I would much rather have the 500e. Its got more character and is probably a more fun overall driving experience. Also, nothing beats the experience of being in a 20 year old luxury car that can run side by side with some modern day performance cars.
As long as it jumps up to 3 when you give it some gas its fine. If you're giving it a decent amount of gas and its not at 3 is when you need an immediate change.
Yeah only 160, thats not that fast for an 18 year old sedan. Not to mention, the way this 18 year old sedan gets up to that speed (Acceleration wise), isn't amazing either, huh?
Also, they're speed limited to 155mph from the factory, and rev limited to around 165 mph.
Yes, it does look pretty fast for a 500e. It looks like it does 0-125MPH in 19 seconds which is about 2 seconds faster than a "normal" 500e
But his gauge says 15 Celsius which is 59 Fahrenheit. Also, as i do, he may live at sea level or below. You can use corrected time slips to see the different elevation can make.
If a normal 500e does 0-125 in 70 degree temps and at 3000ft elevation it would make sense for it to be much faster in 59 degree weather at say 400 ft below sea level
Wer bei dem Wagen auf den Spritverbrauch achten muss, sollte ihn sich nicht kaufen.
Bei sachter Fahrweise und deiner 50/50 sollten 13L drin sein.
Bei kostant 90Km/h braucht er sogar knapp unter 10L. Erstaunlich ist auch das der Wagen selbst bei konstant scharfer Fahrweise kaum über 16-17L braucht. Bei einer kürzlichen Probefahrt sind wir mit 15L 80km weit gekommen - Vollgas!
Ein tipp ist auch Spritmonitor punkt de, dort sind einige 500E und E500 der Baureihe W124 vertreten.
Vielen Dank, mir sind direkte Meinungen und Infos immer lieber als Spritmonitor, manche Werte dort klingen auch komisch.
Der Verbrauch klingt aber toll, ich hatte mir als Obergrenze 15l gesetzt was ja sehr gut zu passen scheint, mich haben nur Horrorverbrauchsangaben von über 20l (bei ruhiger fahrweise) abgeschreckt.

Durch den deutlich niedrigeren Preis des Mercedes-Benz 400 E wurde darüber hinaus das Budget geschont. Die Heckflügel waren bei beiden Modellen nicht serienmäßig.
der geht ja wie hölle....vor allem in den ersten gängen....auch später. liegt son w124 eigentlich serienmäßig gut in der kurve?? das würde mich sehr interessieren. mein vater hat den w210 c200cdi (automatik :D) und der liegt sowas von scheisse auf der strasse, man kann damit gaaaar nicht schnell um kurven fahren und der hat auch eine ätzend lange lenkübersetzung, man ist bei geringsten einlenkmanövern so heftig am lenkraddrehen....ist es beim w124 ähnlich? ich hoffe nicht!
@Chriso310 Der 500E und mein 600SEL liegen sehr gut auf der Straße. Der 500er ist aber sportlicher (leichter und abgestimmt für sportliches fahren) der 600er ist eine S-Klasse aber für 2.2 Tonnen hält er sich sehr gut.
Schon mal eine Kawa gefahren? Da ist das alles ein Schneckentempo. Ich brauche gerade mal 1o oder 11 Sek. bis 200. Könner machen das sogar unter 8 Sek.

@Chriso310 der w210 ist eine e-klasse also kann es kein c200cdi sein und bis auf den 500er w124 liegt normalerweise keiner gut auf der straße also alle sehr schwammig, was ich als sehr angenehm empfinde ;)
Mir ist sogar mal nach einer zügigen kurvenfahrt das rad vorne rechts "abgebrochen", aber es war schon sehr rostig da unten.
Also ich fahre den w124 als 200D und kann nur sagen, dass der das Beste Fahrwerk hat, was ich mir vorstellen kann. Sehr direkte, feinfühlige LEnkung, und in Kurven einfach nicht aus der Spur zu bringen. Dabei immer ein Hammer-Komfort, aber es bleibt immer alles so, das du merkst auf welchem Untegrund du unterwegs bist, und was für ein Auto du fährst, nichts synthetisches. ICh find die Dinger liegen wie n Brett:D
The W124 500 E is one of my all time favorite Mercedes. I work for Mercedes as a mechanic/service technician and even though I have to work on and test drive AMGs, nothing quite brings a smile to my face as when I have the pleasure of working on and test driving a well maintained 500 E.
the mercedes has 400 cc more then the mustang cobra, but dont forget the mercedes has the pig of a old 4 speed hydraulic tranny that significant power lost through it.

Hatten den 500E damals mehrfach als Leihwagen von MB Düsseldorf. Die Beschleunigung 0-200 war phantastisch, die Beschleunigung ab 200km/h dann aber erst richtig atemberaubend. Kein Motorrad konnte damals >200km/h mithalten...
ps: Ein Fahrzeug haben wir damals direkt nach 2 Stunden geschafft...bin bei 200 Sachen aus Versehen in Fahrstufe 2 gekommen...kein Problem, mit letzter Kraft zurück zu MB und den nächsten 500E geholt :-D

@Timx4 I have a W124 200TD built 1991 and 180km/h is no problem... with wind from the back of course. :D You're engine won't blow up. W124 is known to be overconstructed.
@Timx4 you should´nt be too worried - my w124 - 200 from 1986 has driven 100.000miles since I bought it in 2006 - Mainly on the freeway in high speed - it seems to love it - so if your w124 260E is in good working order there should be no problems :)

der geht ja wie hölle....vor allem in den ersten gängen....auch später. liegt son w124 eigentlich serienmäßig gut in der kurve?? das würde mich sehr interessieren. mein vater hat den w210 c200cdi (automatik :D) und der liegt sowas von scheisse auf der strasse, man kann damit gaaaar nicht schnell um kurven fahren und der hat auch eine ätzend lange lenkübersetzung, man ist bei geringsten einlenkmanövern so heftig am lenkraddrehen....ist es beim w124 ähnlich? ich hoffe nicht!

@Chriso310 Der 500E und mein 600SEL liegen sehr gut auf der Straße. Der 500er ist aber sportlicher (leichter und abgestimmt für sportliches fahren) der 600er ist eine S-Klasse aber für 2.2 Tonnen hält er sich sehr gut.

@Chriso310 Die meisten Mercedes - unter anderem auch der W124 - sind keine Kurvenräuber. Es sind Langstreckenfahrzeuge die auf Komfort abgestimmt sind. Da ist Mercedes Weltklasse!
Wer sportlich fahren will ist mit anderen Marken besser bedient.

@Chriso310 der w210 ist eine e-klasse also kann es kein c200cdi sein und bis auf den 500er w124 liegt normalerweise keiner gut auf der straße also alle sehr schwammig, was ich als sehr angenehm empfinde ;)
Mir ist sogar mal nach einer zügigen kurvenfahrt das rad vorne rechts "abgebrochen", aber es war schon sehr rostig da unten.

Also ich fahre den w124 als 200D und kann nur sagen, dass der das Beste Fahrwerk hat, was ich mir vorstellen kann. Sehr direkte, feinfühlige LEnkung, und in Kurven einfach nicht aus der Spur zu bringen. Dabei immer ein Hammer-Komfort, aber es bleibt immer alles so, das du merkst auf welchem Untegrund du unterwegs bist, und was für ein Auto du fährst, nichts synthetisches. ICh find die Dinger liegen wie n Brett:D

The W124 500 E is one of my all time favorite Mercedes. I work for Mercedes as a mechanic/service technician and even though I have to work on and test drive AMGs, nothing quite brings a smile to my face as when I have the pleasure of working on and test driving a well maintained 500 E.

500E can do 0-200 kmh (0-124 mph) in a mere 21 seconds.
Stock they do 0-60 in 5.8-6.0 seconds..Which means it can do 60-124 MPH in an amazing 15 seconds
Now take a 2003 Mustang Cobra, 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds
0-120 MPH in 18.5 seconds, so i'd say a good 20seconds for 0-124 mph
That means a Mustang cobra takes 15.5 seconds to go 60-124mph vs the 15 seconds for the 500E!
Now look at the stats
Mustang Cobra: 400+hp stock.Weight: 3400 lbs
500E: 322 HP.Weight: 3900
Thats called engineering!

the mercedes has 400 cc more then the mustang cobra, but dont forget the mercedes has the pig of a old 4 speed hydraulic tranny that significant power lost through it.

Yes the 500e has 400cc's more than the cobra, but the cobra is stock with an eaton supercharger.
I think the 4.6L supercharged 6 speed has a slight advantage over the 5L, 4 speed.
And the cobra stock I think has 390 HP 390 TQ and a curb weight of 3600 lbs (in my last post i accidently got the weight of a GT).
The 500e is around 320HP and 354 TQ with a curb weight of 3900 lbs.

Actually it depends, Ive got a 300e and I have the owners manual in there. It quotes the 1993 500e (American spec) as 315 hp.

hes got in a way right,it is not an E500,cause u got the 260 KM/h speedometer,the real E500 has it to 300 Km/h, didnt know that? Just search and speak with workers from Mercedes. This Modell is an E420,my Brother had it (but it was installed with E500 Speedometer,so it means, speedometer to 300 Km/h)

@andykirner das stimmt DEFINITIV nicht! ausnahmslos ALLE fahrzeuge der baureihe w 124 mit dem achtzylinder m 119 haben tachometer bis 260 km/h.
lediglich fahrzeuge, die bei amg einem tuning unterzogen wurden oder der spätere e 60 amg haben tachometer bis 300 km/h.
jeder, der einmal in einem solchen serienmäßigen auto saß, wird dem zustimmen müssen ...

Kenne den 300 Km/h tacho sowohl mit AMG logo drauf als auch ohne, jedoch habe ich den 260 Km/h tacho nur im 420 gesehen,mein Bruder hatte ebenfalls zwei 420er W124,jedoch dort wurde vom Vorbesitzer ein 300 Km/h tacho eingebaut statt dem 260 km/h tacho eingesetzt, und beim anderen war ein 260 km/h tacho drinnen,arbeitet zufällig jemand bei Mercedes Benz der dies Bestätigen kann?

Hatten den 500E damals mehrfach als Leihwagen von MB Düsseldorf. Die Beschleunigung 0-200 war phantastisch, die Beschleunigung ab 200km/h dann aber erst richtig atemberaubend. Kein Motorrad konnte damals >200km/h mithalten...
ps: Ein Fahrzeug haben wir damals direkt nach 2 Stunden geschafft...bin bei 200 Sachen aus Versehen in Fahrstufe 2 gekommen...kein Problem, mit letzter Kraft zurück zu MB und den nächsten 500E geholt :-D

@Timx4 I have a W124 200TD built 1991 and 180km/h is no problem... with wind from the back of course. :D You're engine won't blow up. W124 is known to be overconstructed.

@Timx4 you should´nt be too worried - my w124 - 200 from 1986 has driven 100.000miles since I bought it in 2006 - Mainly on the freeway in high speed - it seems to love it - so if your w124 260E is in good working order there should be no problems :)
