  • simply the greatest guitarist

  • can't wait for the new album!

  • @Rhamsody You can download the first 2 songs free at his site, and amazon has samples of all of the songs from the record, which sales June 21. Thus far, it sounds amazing, extremely heavy, and definitely classic Mac but also very different

  • @rmsolympic1 thanks! i d/l them a while ago, so far i like the second track a lil more...

  • @Rhamsody Haha, I liked Oluendiz a lil more, too, though I like the solo in Serpens Cauda slightly more than the one in Oludeniz.

  • No one Incorporates such a wide range of musical Ideas into a single song and gets away with it Except for the Master Himself, Mr. Via take a back seat TMAC!

  • Tony MacAlpine = Scary monstor

  • I literally can't stop laughing from 3:15-3:36. Amazing alternate picking, legato, economy picking, string skipping, sweep picking, sweep tap outs, all while just enjoying the moment. Look at his face and tell me he's not playing with feeling. Tony you're the best!

  • @SndwchRvrShrddr does lift the spirits a little doesn't it??

  • @SndwchRvrShrddr

yeh aye he has a wide range of technique and its amazing! probs one of the more diverse players out there- my fave part is the sweeping progression at about 3:54 is brilliant especially cos he sneaks in the tapped notes too

  • @SndwchRvrShrddr Absolutely! AND without the aid of a hair tie! Say it isn't possible!!

  • that is me in a few years to come

  • @Acecombatgamer Same here dude, I'm getting my shit together and studying classical guitar at college as well.

  • where can I find the full video, please? Thank you!

  • wow... this has to be the best thing I have ever heard!!

  • Quienes son los que lo acompañan?

  • licheal is only good because he has an amazing technic and way of playing, but he don't really have a sense of music like tony mcalpine...

  • Three Bad Ass Genius!!!!!!Tony's pretty lucky by having MT on the drums(love his drumming) & the Bass player is pretty good.I love the performance more than the song!!!!

    MC

  • I have this video. Tony is nothing short of amazing. In the video, there are two segments where he does little-solo-improv type things after two of the songs about 50 seconds of him just melodically noodling and shredding, its quite inspiring. Skippyjj20 is right, TMAC is a genius!!

  • ya i heard tony inprovising and at first i thought he was messin up, but then i realised that it sounded good and he improvised i love improvisation. it brings out the greatness in the player

  • tony rulesssssss , this is real music.

  • nice quality;D

  • EXCELLENT !!!! I was hearing that song when I was younger and now, seeing Tony playing it in real....so much good memories on that one :-)

  • Tony is a pure musical GENIUS!!

  • One of the greatest musicians I have ever heard - I grew up listening to the man,

    Still blows me away)))

  • This fuckin rocks...great job.

  • I totally agree with the boys down there all of mabs songs sound the same and to ears get old before the song is even over.

  • hmmmm i loved the drummer Mr. MIke terrana (ex drumer of malmsteen the album 7th sign

  • steve vai le robo a tony macalpine,,,hasta los acordes de bajo

  • for a secind there i thought he looked like tom morrello

  • Tony rocks. I can't understand how he's not more famous.

  • yeah he's way better than yngwie.

  • yeeh man! and michael angelo (H)

  • michael angelo's music is fucking horrible. its not even music.

  • yeah, i just hate when ppl say, michael angelo is the greatest !!!! ...tony's one of the greatest

  • Killer tune.Great job Tony both on the playing & composing....awsome!!.

    Drummer gets A++++++

    Bass gett A++++++ too:)

    Good Job Guys!!

  • It's Mike Terrana on the drums, not sure about the bass.

  • Best part is from 0:00 - 4:31 :>

  • who's the bassist? is he Sean Malone?

  • don't think so, but that'd be awesome.

  • Kevin Chown

  • mike mounster of the drums

  • It's good to see Tony still shredding.

In my opinion Edge of Insanity remains the

best album he put out. It was not only his

creativity and virtuosity. But the fact that

he was backed by two of the best musicians

on earth. Steve Smith on drums and Billy

    Sheehan on Bass.

  • One of the best rock guitarists of all time.

  • totaly agree. the most underrated guitar player of all time

  • Amayzing!!!!

  • What an awesome version of this song.

  • One of the best TM songs of all time. He is so good at melodies and hooks. How many guitarists has he actually guided? He is like the president of the united shred.

  • I have 7 MACALPINE Albumns, 3 - V, MOORE. 10 MALMSTEEN. 5 - SATRIANI. 20 G, MOORE. 1 -V, VINCENT. 1 JOHN NORUM. + PURPLE/RAINBOW - M.S.G, AND HEAPS OF PROG/ALT. So 4 all you ROCKERS who want to hear some new bands. Then come on in 4 a visit and stay a while, you will be blowen away.

  • This is why I have every CD that TMAC is on... A pure genius...

  • Yea Tony is the man alright. He is my fav AXE player for speed only next to - MALMSTEEN. But for feel you should check out - STEVEN ROTHERY From - MARILLION oh yea he's my fav. I have 20 Marillion CD'S and as well as records dvd's an tapes. Early MARILLION is better. Also check out - ALDO NOVA, he is worth a listen.

  • sounds like quite an amazing collection, i might have to consider some similar purchases :D

    Jo

  • Check out - RING OF FIRE - someone told me about this band. With yours truely on AXE.

  • wherever tony is at... CAB, Ring Of Fire, G3... everything is just amazing

  • I dress like a bumb.

  • wow, this is seriously awesome

  • he's only second to joe satriani in my book. i love his jazz, classical, shred combination

  • he's superior to satch.

  • Oh my! He has the same clothes as my brothers and I wear when we work at the farm.

Go Tony! You're the best! btw, is it Mike Terrana on drums?

  • I think it is mike, that guy jammed with yngwie at the budakon and he sounded awsome he seems to have the same feel to his drumming dosent he

  • It's Mike Terrana.

  • yea he got some simmon phillips in him

  • Tony is a musician, he can dress like a hobo and care less. hes all about the music

  • Indeed, who cares if he dresses like a bum... could go naked under the spotlight, couldn't care less.

Btw this is my favourite song out of Freedom To Fly, that album has many many great hits.

  • this is one of the best tony songs and my favorite..its done REALLY well live..shows the TRUE power of the guitar..this is teh way the guitar is meant to be played.

  • Awesome!!

  • sad how many music fans just want to bitch at each other over youtube about whos the best. WTF why do you idiots always have to shoot someone down because you think your idol is so much better? How does it matter?

  • one of the best comments on youtube ever

  • by muschi753

  • Haha they should let you 'favourite' comments. That'd be cool.

Oh and MacAlpine's music is like sex on the beach x10.

  • Tony for me is the best

  • Haha, I see a lot of hate here. But I think as music lovers we should stop killing each other. Vai and Mac are great great guitarists. Sure, both can play really fast, but their music is stylistically very different, and they have very different strengths. Mac has great technique, very clean picking, and fantastic melodies, with a sharp neoclassical edge. Vai is a little more unconventional, probably not as technically complex but more creative and adventurous. Both are a joy to listen to

  • holy shit!!! tony rocks!!!

  • macalpine is in your face with straight melody and skill, ive listened to vai for awhile and got extremely bored of it but i can always listen to macalpine, so please man before you say something retarded like that make sure you know what your talking about, and oh yeah check out tears of sahara by macalpine the vids on youtube somewhere, if you think thats nothing compared to tender surrender then you deserve to get shot.

  • fuck you fuck you, im from compton so u shouldnt even be talking about getting shot, secondly, if u think my comment was retarded then ur retarded. comparing vai and tony isnt unreasonable like say comparing him to malmsteen or kirk hammet, thirdly, ive seen tears of sahara more than 100 times and it is equaly a great song, but tender surrender is more innovative.

  • Please elaborate innovative because to me its just a regular vai song, obviously if your from compton that could explain alot since you dont know much about music, just stick to your gangsta rap and 50 cent, alright??,peace DAWG

  • aahhhh hellll no! ill have u know that i am not even into this type of music escept paul gilbert, im a metal head with way more metal knowledge than ull ever have, i hate that rap stuff so dont be frontin

  • You seem like such an intellgent person.

  • i dont know if thats an insult or what but i find ur comment funny so ill laugh. thanks...i guess

  • He's very good, but I get a bit bored for some reason. Vai's my Guy...

  • It sounds like I'm playing "Sonic" or "Megaman"

  • It sounds like I'm playing "Sonic" or "Megaman".

  • Tony MacAlpine can do it all, keyboards or guitar.

  • ya are all right. Tony is simply one of a kind. i think his music is the best in classical, jazz, metal, and fusion put together.

  • Simply a brilliant musician, anyone can learn to play a guitar well .. only the gifted can compose as good as tony

  • he has a dream theaterish album out with him singing on it,you hear the run he does at 2:25 seconds and his soloing?, hes really, really good

  • up there with petrucci

  • definitely good, but I prefer Petrucci myself, next to Stevie Vai. Oh My!

  • petrucci ftw imo :o

  • My ex turned me onto Dream Theater and they are totally awesome. I've seen them three times but the last time was the best show for Petrucci. He really got into the audiance more than the first two times. Portnoy is always astonishing in my opinion. Even if he does spit!

  • His tone is so easy on the ears that I hardly mind all the overt wanking. Really a top-shelf player.

  • Vai, Satch, Yngwie are all just as crazy talented. I really really like Tony becuase he's not/never been in the major lime light like the prior three. There's soooo many gifted guitar players out there.. Paul Gilbert, Lynch, eric johnson, dimeola, petrucci, halen, timmons, metheny ect.. the list goes on and on.

There's ALWAYS some crazy axe slinger out there regardless of rock, jazz, metal, fusion, shread, ect.. It's the great debate and it's all personal opinion.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself!

  • AMEN!! I'm so sick of people throwing apples against oranges..

  • This is really great playing. I went threw a Satch/Vai phase a few years ago but grew out of it because i found it too sterile sounding. This guy has got all the techniques but with way more feeling or soul in it, thats so great. I have to say i also enjoyed the drumming and bass playing on this track. Kudos.

  • ok, whos better tony or yngvee?

  • tmac is definitely better, yngwie's playing is absolutely boring, yngwie plays at super speeds but his tunes are dull and have absolutely no feeling in my opinion. tmac has learned to fuse technical dificulty with overall feel for the music

  • Tough one! Yngwie has better tone but Tony is more diverse,(fusion, rock, instrumental music) plus the piano skills. Yngwie plays with a real anger inhis playing and Tony sounds like he's floating inthe clouds. The mark against Yngwie is that he has been rehashing the same lame metal for the last 20 years.

  • Tony simply changed my life. He showed me with dedication and never-ending practice, I can be as good as possibly want to be. He is simply the greatest musician on this planet.

  • i agree

  • Tony is easily more skilled than vai.

  • in what, u think he can write a song like tender surrender? i think not. he is good though, but not better than vai

  • I agree whole heartedly. Like I always say "There's just something extremely special about little Stevie Vai."

  • very true, its just some kind of mojo that his songs have

  • HAHAHA wow you are a fucking dumb guy, listen to his freedom to fly album and maximum security, Tender surrender is a boring song, im sorry but macalpine has shred ability aswell as melody dont say hes got no feeling because thats just bs, Vai always plays the same shit with his tone drenched in effects,

  • one of my guitar mentors..

  • An amazing guitarist. It is ironic that with his distinguished career, he is now being known as Vai's keyboardist. Oh well, at least he's out there doing his thing to some extent.

  • People who've only heard him with Vai will be blown away if they hear assorted tracks from CAB, Ring Of Fire, Planet X, and his diverse solo albums, and realise just how multi-faceted his playing is. This song is from my favourite MacAlpine album, and also the first album of his I purchased.

  • i just love all the people who say tony is nothing but a shredder without melodic sense. granted i havn't heard that in awhile, now it's just "hey that guy played with Vai".

  • I love how he's not about playing 23049 notes per second.
