@Rhamsody You can download the first 2 songs free at his site, and amazon has samples of all of the songs from the record, which sales June 21. Thus far, it sounds amazing, extremely heavy, and definitely classic Mac but also very different
No one Incorporates such a wide range of musical Ideas into a single song and gets away with it Except for the Master Himself, Mr. Via take a back seat TMAC!
I literally can't stop laughing from 3:15-3:36. Amazing alternate picking, legato, economy picking, string skipping, sweep picking, sweep tap outs, all while just enjoying the moment. Look at his face and tell me he's not playing with feeling. Tony you're the best!
yeh aye he has a wide range of technique and its amazing! probs one of the more diverse players out there- my fave part is the sweeping progression at about 3:54 is brilliant especially cos he sneaks in the tapped notes too
Three Bad Ass Genius!!!!!!Tony's pretty lucky by having MT on the drums(love his drumming) & the Bass player is pretty good.I love the performance more than the song!!!!
I have this video. Tony is nothing short of amazing. In the video, there are two segments where he does little-solo-improv type things after two of the songs about 50 seconds of him just melodically noodling and shredding, its quite inspiring. Skippyjj20 is right, TMAC is a genius!!
ya i heard tony inprovising and at first i thought he was messin up, but then i realised that it sounded good and he improvised i love improvisation. it brings out the greatness in the player
I had a question I have a Ltd/esp F-200 I believe I payed 400-450 for it about 4 years ago I like the way it plays I have the action really low on it , It has a liscened floyd rose on it one of the locking nuts on the bridge to hold the strings stripped out on me I'm thinking about buying a Original floyd rose for it Do you think its worth investing in and are these problems common on both liscened and original floyd rose systems? any advice would be great
One of the best TM songs of all time. He is so good at melodies and hooks. How many guitarists has he actually guided? He is like the president of the united shred.
I have 7 MACALPINE Albumns, 3 - V, MOORE. 10 MALMSTEEN. 5 - SATRIANI. 20 G, MOORE. 1 -V, VINCENT. 1 JOHN NORUM. + PURPLE/RAINBOW - M.S.G, AND HEAPS OF PROG/ALT. So 4 all you ROCKERS who want to hear some new bands. Then come on in 4 a visit and stay a while, you will be blowen away.
Yea Tony is the man alright. He is my fav AXE player for speed only next to - MALMSTEEN. But for feel you should check out - STEVEN ROTHERY From - MARILLION oh yea he's my fav. I have 20 Marillion CD'S and as well as records dvd's an tapes. Early MARILLION is better. Also check out - ALDO NOVA, he is worth a listen.
this is one of the best tony songs and my favorite..its done REALLY well live..shows the TRUE power of the guitar..this is teh way the guitar is meant to be played.
sad how many music fans just want to bitch at each other over youtube about whos the best. WTF why do you idiots always have to shoot someone down because you think your idol is so much better? How does it matter?
Haha, I see a lot of hate here. But I think as music lovers we should stop killing each other. Vai and Mac are great great guitarists. Sure, both can play really fast, but their music is stylistically very different, and they have very different strengths. Mac has great technique, very clean picking, and fantastic melodies, with a sharp neoclassical edge. Vai is a little more unconventional, probably not as technically complex but more creative and adventurous. Both are a joy to listen to
macalpine is in your face with straight melody and skill, ive listened to vai for awhile and got extremely bored of it but i can always listen to macalpine, so please man before you say something retarded like that make sure you know what your talking about, and oh yeah check out tears of sahara by macalpine the vids on youtube somewhere, if you think thats nothing compared to tender surrender then you deserve to get shot.
fuck you fuck you, im from compton so u shouldnt even be talking about getting shot, secondly, if u think my comment was retarded then ur retarded. comparing vai and tony isnt unreasonable like say comparing him to malmsteen or kirk hammet, thirdly, ive seen tears of sahara more than 100 times and it is equaly a great song, but tender surrender is more innovative.
Please elaborate innovative because to me its just a regular vai song, obviously if your from compton that could explain alot since you dont know much about music, just stick to your gangsta rap and 50 cent, alright??,peace DAWG
aahhhh hellll no! ill have u know that i am not even into this type of music escept paul gilbert, im a metal head with way more metal knowledge than ull ever have, i hate that rap stuff so dont be frontin
My ex turned me onto Dream Theater and they are totally awesome. I've seen them three times but the last time was the best show for Petrucci. He really got into the audiance more than the first two times. Portnoy is always astonishing in my opinion. Even if he does spit!
Vai, Satch, Yngwie are all just as crazy talented. I really really like Tony becuase he's not/never been in the major lime light like the prior three. There's soooo many gifted guitar players out there.. Paul Gilbert, Lynch, eric johnson, dimeola, petrucci, halen, timmons, metheny ect.. the list goes on and on.
There's ALWAYS some crazy axe slinger out there regardless of rock, jazz, metal, fusion, shread, ect.. It's the great debate and it's all personal opinion.
This is really great playing. I went threw a Satch/Vai phase a few years ago but grew out of it because i found it too sterile sounding. This guy has got all the techniques but with way more feeling or soul in it, thats so great. I have to say i also enjoyed the drumming and bass playing on this track. Kudos.
tmac is definitely better, yngwie's playing is absolutely boring, yngwie plays at super speeds but his tunes are dull and have absolutely no feeling in my opinion. tmac has learned to fuse technical dificulty with overall feel for the music
Tough one! Yngwie has better tone but Tony is more diverse,(fusion, rock, instrumental music) plus the piano skills. Yngwie plays with a real anger inhis playing and Tony sounds like he's floating inthe clouds. The mark against Yngwie is that he has been rehashing the same lame metal for the last 20 years.
Tony simply changed my life. He showed me with dedication and never-ending practice, I can be as good as possibly want to be. He is simply the greatest musician on this planet.
HAHAHA wow you are a fucking dumb guy, listen to his freedom to fly album and maximum security, Tender surrender is a boring song, im sorry but macalpine has shred ability aswell as melody dont say hes got no feeling because thats just bs, Vai always plays the same shit with his tone drenched in effects,
An amazing guitarist. It is ironic that with his distinguished career, he is now being known as Vai's keyboardist. Oh well, at least he's out there doing his thing to some extent.
People who've only heard him with Vai will be blown away if they hear assorted tracks from CAB, Ring Of Fire, Planet X, and his diverse solo albums, and realise just how multi-faceted his playing is. This song is from my favourite MacAlpine album, and also the first album of his I purchased.
i just love all the people who say tony is nothing but a shredder without melodic sense. granted i havn't heard that in awhile, now it's just "hey that guy played with Vai".
simply the greatest guitarist
