they usually use cameras that have 3ccd's or aka a 3chip. You can get a used one for like 1000 bucks. Trust me ive wanted one for years!!!

i picked up a JVC everio hd3 for 400 with 2 lenses (fisheye and some other one). it looks real bomb esp the still shots. had to go thru a couple headaches getting it compatible with my imac tho.
