this song really just hit me for the first time. I'm in my first year of college and living away from home for the first time. I sang this song just now, and it just occurred to me how blessed I am to have my mom. She's given me everything on a silver platter, and yet I've taken her for granted. I don't know why people hate Metallica's lighter and softer songs. It shows a nice contrast, besides they are very good at what they do, which is build up for the songs that will cause the crowd to blow up.

Playing Mama Said directly before Master Of Puppets gives the crowd time to recuperate, regen and most importantly, rest their throats to chant: "MASTER! MASTER!". It's practicality.

This entire album is very underrated and I kinda understand it, all the fans of the band were used to getting top quality thrash metal from Metallica and suddendly they made an album full of southern rock-ish mix of country and traditional heavy metal so that gave the fans a shock. But because I love many kinds of music I really think that this is actually a pretty good album.

I don't really understand it to be honest. I mean I do, because I get what you're saying, but to be honest this albums not exactly in a-whole-nother genre of music altogether. It's not as in your face thrashy as some of their old stuff but that doesn't make it worse. And I'm a complete metal head, I only like Metal and my favorite genre is Death Metal at the moment but I still love this stuff. And for anyone else I'm not a "fanboy" I have tried other types of music. Just never liked them.
