Tongues speaking was described in the Bible as an ability to speak the word of God to foreigners who didnt understand the languages the Disciples spoke. It is not gibberish. I have a friend (brother in the Lord) who is in his 60's who tells the story of one time when he and another brother were persuaded to go to a certain Pentecostal meeting. The other brother was Japanese. When they were in the meeting, and the tongues eventually started, the Japanese brother turned WHITE and was standing, stunned and practically in shock! My friend asked him what was wrong, and he said he was hearing someone blaspheming God in Japanese.

I joined a Catholic retreat in high school where we were ceremoniously baptized in the holy spirit. That evening a mass was held in the chapel. A woman began to speak uncontrollably in tongues. One of the priests grabbed a bible and began to recite from it. She persisted for a while, then passed out. The church service ended. Later a few of us went out back where a fire was burning. We saw they had taken her to a trailer and began an exorcism, spitting alchohol around her semi unconcious body.
Brother, I see many of the tongue speaking contingent is taking you to task. It seems as is no amount of correction or evidence will dissuade them from their folly. All the evidence from Dr Koch, Andrew Strom and so many others citing demonic involvement in this activity will get them to stop. Just look at those who propagate tongue speaking. Tongues was a gift of the Holy Spirit so that the apostles could spread the Gospel to people of other languages which they had not previously spoken! @SophiaStewartNews There is no evidence of anyone speaking "angelic" languages in the Bible. Paul mentions it HYPOTHETICALLY in 1Cor.13:1, but never suggested that he himself spoke it. Angels always talked in the native language of the hearer in the Bible.
"Diverse tongues" refers to languages, and the modern mis-translation is the result of people forcing their own beliefs into the Biblical text.
As a miraculous gift, real Biblical "tongues" could be verified. Modern "tongues" cannot.

Jesus Himself said that saying that the work of the Holy Spirit is actually of the devil's is pretty much the only unforgivable sin. Please be very careful about what you say. I do believe that there are some people who may fake spiritual gifts, but the Holy Spirit is still around and God is the same God. Unlike us, He never changes. He is still mighty and powerful. Watch your words and what you teach others.

Jesus was responding to the pharisees who were rejecting the miraculous signs of the Holy Spirit in their midst. This "unforgiveable sin" was a continual rejection of the Holy Spirit by the Jewish leaders.
Furthermore, this "unforgiveable " act was possible only in their time when confronted by Jesus Himself.
The bible does not confirm this reality for us today.
Spirit-filled Christians have always known that there are counterfeit tongues. I agree that we must be careful with those false imitations of the real experience. Actually the real gift of tongues cannot be faked. No instance in Acts has anyone asserting that the tongues speaking was faked. What happens is that this gift is redefined and then practised according to the redefining. This is what happened in Corinth and this is what happens today.

@quandryron You are right friend. I don't speak in tongues myself, so I have nothing to defend. I studied 1cor.14. It is so clear that what Paul is talking about is something other than the natural language people use to communicate. I suggest to this brother to go and study this chapter again...
(1) The word UNKNOWN was added by the translators and that is why it is in ITALICS.
(2) Corinth was a major Roman port city with at least 25 languages. Paul is addressing the use of a language and if no one knew that language then it would be a mystery because no one would have any idea of what was being said.
(3) If you read the full context it would be obvious that Paul is not exhorting the practice, in fact he is telling them DO NOT do it.
This is how they were to go to all nations. By the gift of the Holy Spirit to speak other languages. Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: You can't go to China and speak Greek to them. They won't understand, but being given the gift you will have the ability to speak other languages.
Speaking in tongues was the ability to speak other languages.

Paul could have told them, "okay we got it, you are saved & there is no more need for you to speak in tongues", but he didn't. He told them, "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues" (1Cor14:39).
The typical argument comes from 1Cor13:10 in which some say the Bible is the perfect thing to come & thus nullifies tongues, etc. That is a hard sale if it is read in context.

I have a friend (brother in the Lord) who is in his 60's who tells the story of one time when he and another brother were persuaded to go to a certain Pentecostal meeting. The other brother was Japanese. When they were in the meeting, and the tongues eventually started, the Japanese brother turned WHITE and was standing, stunned and practically in shock! My friend asked him what was wrong, and he said he was hearing someone blaspheming God in Japanese.

I joined a Catholic retreat in high school where we were ceremoniously baptized in the holy spirit. That evening a mass was held in the chapel. A woman began to speak uncontrollably in tongues. One of the priests grabbed a bible and began to recite from it. She persisted for a while, then passed out. The church service ended. Later a few of us went out back where a fire was burning. We saw they had taken her to a trailer and began an exorcism, spitting alchohol around her semi unconcious body.

Satan can imitate a saved person and a holy ghost filled person, he can speak the language, remember he came from heaven, BUT, he can not imitate a Sanctified person. This is how we as Saved, Sanctified and Holy Ghost filled people can tell the difference.

Tongues was a gift of the Holy Spirit so that the apostles could spread the Gospel to people of other languages which they had not previously spoken! The apostles would instantly be able to communicate with whomever they met. Babbling incoherently is dangerous because you are probably being driven by demonic spirits! I agree modern "tongues" is not of the Lord. Many well-meaning Christian folks are caught up in the "experience" of tongues, and yet few things in the church have cause so much division.
Would God want Christians to "experience" this unverifiable "gift" without there being any benefit to the church as a whole? I don't think so.

"Diverse tongues" refers to languages, and the modern mis-translation is the result of people forcing their own beliefs into the Biblical text.
As a miraculous gift, real Biblical "tongues" could be verified. Modern "tongues" cannot.

Jesus was responding to the pharisees who were rejecting the miraculous signs of the Holy Spirit in their midst. This "unforgiveable sin" was a continual rejection of the Holy Spirit by the Jewish leaders.
Furthermore, this "unforgiveable " act was possible only in their time when confronted by Jesus Himself.
The bible does not confirm this reality for us today.

(1) The word UNKNOWN was added by the translators and that is why it is in ITALICS.
(2) Corinth was a major Roman port city with at least 25 languages. Paul is addressing the use of a language and if no one knew that language then it would be a mystery because no one would have any idea of what was being said.
(3) If you read the full context it would be obvious that Paul is not exhorting the practice, in fact he is telling them DO NOT do it.

You gotta watch out though cause speaking in tongues is a work of the spirit (God) and if blaspheme the Holy Spirit, you'll not be forgiven. Watch when you atribbute speaking in tongues to the devil!

I always laugh at this. My mom started to take us to churches for a while that people said to be saved, you had to "speak in tongues".
So they blurted out nonsense and ran around the isles barking like dogs.
That is NOT what the Bible said! LOL!
When the Bible mentions "speaking in tongues" the person speaking spoke a particular tongue (language) not gibberish.
One scripture mentions a mass of people listening to preaching and each HEARD it in their own tongue!

Im sorry but just because there are counterfeits does not mean there is not the real thing. In fact why counterfeit something that is not real.
1 Cor 13 says that Tongues will cease only at the Second Coming not the Bible. That is the Perfect mentioned.
You are calling a movement that you have no real knowledge about. TV is NOT real Pentecostalism. I have the gift of tongues and the Holy Spirit led me out of occultism into the study of Gods Word and trying to live a holy life.

Thanks for the information. There is a problem with what you just presented. You mostly used sources outside of the scripture to attempt to prove your point. I use a number of secular sources to prove things, but the Bible is the authority. Paul told the Corinthian church that he was thankful he spoke in tongues more than they did (1Cor14:18). then why did they need instructions about continuing in it? The sign was given, then why continue giving the sign? Then I guess we can conclude that it must have been for a little more than confirmation to the Apostles or Jews. I Cor 14:22 "Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not". Paul could have told them, "okay we got it, you are saved & there is no more need for you to speak in tongues", but he didn't. He told them, "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues" (1Cor14:39).
The typical argument comes from 1Cor13:10 in which some say the Bible is the perfect thing to come & thus nullifies tongues, etc. That is a hard sale if it is read in context.
I agree, there are DEMONIC tongues, but all are not demonic; TEST them (1John4:1).

@JTTNMinistries They havent ceased because the minute you are baptised in the body of christ you become a new creature , you then will go out and speak in a new language and prophecy about what God has done for you. You got to becareful when you dealing with the charismatic movement. A devil will jump on your back and you wont know it till you get home

This was never in the Church. Catholics never spoke of the "Spirit", Speaking in Tongues--This is Not Of God? There are no New Movements in the Real Church-- And Necer Have Been Excepting Heretical Ones!. The resurgance of diabolic disorientation in these end-times gets more away from the Real Church & into HELL.

I believe that there is counterfeit out there but i disagree that it is ALL counterfeit and ONLY from demonic spirits. Please read 1 Corinthians chapters 12,13, & 14.
1 Corinthians 14:22....So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. This scripture clearly states that it is not for just theJews and that speaking in tongues would still be for today because there are still unbelievers.

friend:) i am pentecostal, i used to think that it was the same as charismatic, but it is not the same they dont really preach the same at all, i kinda think that the prophetic and giftings become a focus when the crossand self denial isnt, but I still thought that Paul spoke in toungues later then the pentacost, anyway there is a video from bh cleneden trojan horse that explains it well, that true pentecost was invaded by a counterfeit :) thanks!

My great grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher. My grandparents are still Pentecostal and my mother was raised in that church as well.
I am aware that the Charismatic movement is far more radical than old-time Pentacostalism. But I am still not for the Pentecostal movement.
Pentecost was and is a Jewish feast day. It is mentioned in Acts 2:1, 20:16, and 1 Cor. 16:8.
I'm not trying to attack you. I just would like to warn you about the allegiance to a denominational name thing.

yeah, i hear that, Im not so into the title deal but after coming to the Lord and seeing so many things that i took a while to disagree with like prosperity, emergent, and prophetic, I didnt realize how different they were , but its easy as i find i cant agree with them on real topics. no i appreciate your vid and the warning :) love to chat down the line
