aarossell . . . wtf! Your comment borders on insane irony! Rodrigo COMPOSED THIS masterpiece to express his tortured soul at the stillborn birth of his first son. Tell me you didn't know!?!? or do you speak as a prophet??
I only noticed something. Joaquín Rodrigo Vidre was born 1901,a year after the century started and died 1999, a year before it ended. That was HIS century, i guess. he just made me love the acoustic guitar even more.
You see all these young (and not so young) guitarists flashing their fingers over the fretboard as if they're creating some sort of magic - and then you watch this. Just watch JW's fingers - for some runs he's all over the fretboard as well, but this is just so damn musical! Brilliant.
@AlanSturgess Because John Williams is about the MUSIC, all those so - called "shredders" are about the flash and hey look how fast I can play. They don't give a damn about the music. Give one of them a nylon string acoustic and they won't know where to begin.
@filbertflange I totally agree. I've heard maybe 3 or 4 of shredders who also make a truly musical sound, but there's such a lack of feeling involved on the part of almost all the others ... 'Look at me. Aren't I clever? I can play ever fret in 2 nanoseconds ..'
Many guitarists can play fast AND project genuine emotion and musicality, but sheer speed is not any kind of standard by which they should be judged apart from speed itself. Fast or slow, players like JW set the benchmark of genius.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Every part says something - there are no disposeable parts. John Williams' technique is a joy to watch. Such tone. A true master of the instrument.
@andla20 : That's correct. It's the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez was recorded on the Waldbuehne in Berlin, on 21 June 1998.
BTW: 3 dislikes? - They should be hanged using John Williams' guitar strings! How can one possibly dislike such a masterpiece of music?

The soul of Spain is not in the cathedrals, the fountains, the castles, or the bull rings, but in Rodrigo's melody. ---O'Ross

Well, this was recorded with an old Soviet turnip... but who cares, the sound is allright, and the music is FANTASTIC! Truly, heavenly...
