this is most likely a distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedal, which oversaturates the frequencies so you hear the crunchy sound. there is a pretty decent website with all the gear radiohead and other artists have (i dont know it's name though) maybe you can check wikipedia/thom yorke for more

@37taupwn Muse has admitted to being influenced by Radiohead many times.
In an interview in 2008 Christopher Wolstenholme from Muse was asked "Who are your musical influences?" He responded with the following:
Chris:"Around the time we got into the band we were listening to things like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine you know...all that kind of stuff"

@37taupwn the Muse guy's voice, and his vocal stylings kinda sounds like Thom Yorke's....that's really where the comparisons end. Muse's overblown, over-dramatic guitar riffs define their sound. Radiohead's sound can't be defined.

ugh the muse comparisons again? Their first album sounds like The Bends era b-sides. Everything else muse is totally different from any other Radiohead music. That's how it is.

Everytime I listen this song I feel like Im going on a rollercoaster, it`s amazing. It starts paceful and goes into a exciting finale.

Its really weird my friend dispisses Radiohead for no reason, but the only song he likes by them is this and he loves it. Its nothing compared to about top 50 RH songs.

Could you all please stop dissing Muse? It's one of the greatest bands ever, just like this one. They're creative enough to make their one style, they don't need to steal it from Radiohead. And even if a few songs remind you of Radiohead, then so What?? You can't say that the other 95% sounds like them...

Thom Yorke didn't invent falsetto singing guys.. and Pablo Honey sounds so much like The Pixies and i'm pretty sure Radiohead are open minded about this influence.. Radiohead have benefitted from so much influence as well people and you should all stop trying to put down bands like Muse.

@13lissss the difference is, radiohead combine many influences: R.E.M., pixies, queen, nirvana, neil young, later on in ok computer, they combine still dj shadow (in airbag's cut up drums) , miles davis (in subteranean homesick alien) and basically created their own sound. Even still they evolved into the experimental Kid A sound and ....what do muse sound like? radiohead, maybe a little queen and a little metal?? gimme a break. Muse is completely unoriginal

@coruptgovt No need to hate on Muse..they have their own sound too its not completely unoriginal. It's hard to be original because basically everything has been done before..Radiohead and Muse both have their respective niches and are both fucking tight bands that have a sick sound.
