I love acoustic soul. I have many musician friends that give the impression that soul music should be more elaborate with horns, backup singers, so on. Bill Withers of course set the tone for acoustic soul 40 years ago. My belief is that most soul songs would benefit from simple accompaniment of the acoustic guitar, at least as an alternative version. In this format the vocal and lyrics are the centerpiece. This song is chilling. It certainly is one of Al Green`s BEST!

He's just playing power chords the entire song. Basically, play a power "E" chord at the 2nd, 4th, and 7th frets. He varies the fingerings so just listen and follow along. It isnt to hard. Remember though, he has a backup playing and hitting those subtle notes you hear. Don't know how experienced you are but look up Tomi Paldanius to learn how to combine the lead and bass chords. Good luck man.
