Conan 3D: I went in expecting a Summer popcorn action fantasy flick and I got just what I paid for. It's an average movie with some cool moments, but I'd watch it again. It wasn't really as horrible as many of the reviews suggest.

what i remember from the first movie, was conan's woman. the blonde. her performance really made the firm for me. her acting was very good and her swordplay was very graceful since the actress was a dancer. dancers make very good fighters in movies because they are so graceful.

If you really sit down and watch the full uncut version of the first Conan, it is surprisingly a pretty awesome movie. Even after all of the bad stuff I've heard about this version of Conan, I still want to see it.
IMO the Arnold Conan the Barbarian was better. However, I'm reluctant to say this was a bad movie. As usual they totally butchered Conan's backstory, but they did a fairly good job grasping the feel of the setting and Jason Momoa did an excellent job portraying a young (20s) Conan. If more attention to characterization would have been given I think he would have easily surpassed Arnold's Conan.
I like the movie for what it was: Conan! The story was simple, yes: Conan the barbarian adventurer tracked down the guys who murdered his village. Throw in alot of sword fighting, bloodshed, half naked women, an evil sorceress, & a giant creature. It was everything you expect or could want from a Conan movie; & it delivered. If you went in expecting something else then you went to the wrong movie! Jason Momoa made an excellent transition from Ronan to Conan!
I still wanna see it as a Conan fan. Even if people say it's awful. It can't be worse than the Arnold versions. Besides, Jason is defintely eye candy...

I wish I didn't agree with them (and I'm not sure I buy Christy's idea that campy would've been better), but as is usually the case, I do. Even one of Conan's signature lines from one of the best short stories ("I live, l love, I slay..."), while delivered well (Momoa is a good Conan, and would be a great one with a better script and director), had lousy framing. World looked right, cast was solid, but no story worth speaking of. We didn't need an origin, just a bloodbath.
I liked it, but it was not at all as good as the original, and ya the 3D kinda was lame, Steven Lang was pretty awesome, and they forgot that part of what made the first movie so awesome was the Score, the music in this one was not at all impressive, but over all it look really good had good imagery, I like that they showed the pirate side of the conan character, the dialog was week however in alot of places
I never listen to critics. Critics love that gay shit of romance and homosexual love. I'd rather listen to friends who actually seen it and say if it is good or bad.
Those were devastating review numbers. From the trailer alone, you can tell the action sequences should at least knock the scores a little higher. I'm not planning to see this until much later, but I doubt it is AS BAD as some of the films they've pretentiously given >7 in the past. I enjoy this review program because it offers so many opinions, but frankly those opinions fall short when they are out of their comfort zone, as here reviewing a comic book to movie conversion.
@dafttool Conan isn't a "comic book to movie conversion." Conan was a character in a series of books and short stories that dated many years before the comic book adaptations.

But the fact remains that despite Conan's literary origins, Conan is a cartoonish character in much the same way Tarzan is, even though both aren't your 'typical" comic book characters, both originating in literature.

And I am not sure how a character limit made you write something that I suppose from what you write you knew was wrong before you entered it (i.e. Conan being a comic book character).
In any case, I haven't seen this either but I'd be surprised if I find it be any good considering who the director is and how bad his remake of Friday the 13th was.
Atchity is really off on his game here. If he really did read the original Howard books why does he not mention that the first Conan movie was not accurate whatsoever to the books? Why does he talk about Arnold in that movie as if he was a great Conan when he looked nor acted in anyway how Conan was in the books? And Conan is not Arnold's "signature role". His signature role is clearly the Terminator. And why does he bash this movie for telling an origin if that's also what the first Conan did?
This remake reminds me of The Scorpion King . . . which reminds me of The Mummy Returns . . . all of which reminds me of a Hot Pocket frozen in the middle.
The sad thing about shitty remakes like this is that people who have not seen the originals will never give a damn about them. If someone is to make a remake it has to be done with love and respect, If all you care about is a cheap cash in on someone else's success it defiantly shows.

I'm such a Robert E Howard nerd I still want to go see this movie. The Conan movies with Arnold were horrible also but I still enjoyed them on a fanboi level. The 3D seems unnecessary though. (This part is to the WTF crew... It's just a dude with long hair... get over it...)

A critic who read the Robert E. Howard stories? Awesome. If only someone would be true to the originals. Conan doesn't do kung fu kicks or fancy sword moves, he wins because he's relentless.

I wish I didn't agree with them (and I'm not sure I buy Christy's idea that campy would've been better), but as is usually the case, I do. Even one of Conan's signature lines from one of the best short stories ("I live, l love, I slay..."), while delivered well (Momoa is a good Conan, and would be a great one with a better script and director), had lousy framing. World looked right, cast was solid, but no story worth speaking of. We didn't need an origin, just a bloodbath.

I liked it, but it was not at all as good as the original, and ya the 3D kinda was lame, Steven Lang was pretty awesome, and they forgot that part of what made the first movie so awesome was the Score, the music in this one was not at all impressive, but over all it look really good had good imagery, I like that they showed the pirate side of the conan character, the dialog was week however in alot of places

I never listen to critics. Critics love that gay shit of romance and homosexual love. I'd rather listen to friends who actually seen it and say if it is good or bad.

Those were devastating review numbers. From the trailer alone, you can tell the action sequences should at least knock the scores a little higher. I'm not planning to see this until much later, but I doubt it is AS BAD as some of the films they've pretentiously given >7 in the past. I enjoy this review program because it offers so many opinions, but frankly those opinions fall short when they are out of their comfort zone, as here reviewing a comic book to movie conversion.

@DaRunningMan I KNEW somebody would jump on me for saying that & it only took 5 minutes. I was running into a character limit and tried to cut short my statement. But the fact remains that despite Conan's literary origins, Conan is a cartoonish character in much the same way Tarzan is, even though both aren't your 'typical" comic book characters, both originating in literature.

@dafttool I don't know what you thinking that Conan is a "cartoonish character" has to do with the fact that Conan isn't a comic book character. And I am not sure how a character limit made you write something that I suppose from what you write you knew was wrong before you entered it (i.e. Conan being a comic book character).
In any case, I haven't seen this either but I'd be surprised if I find it be any good considering who the director is and how bad his remake of Friday the 13th was.

Atchity is really off on his game here. If he really did read the original Howard books why does he not mention that the first Conan movie was not accurate whatsoever to the books? Why does he talk about Arnold in that movie as if he was a great Conan when he looked nor acted in anyway how Conan was in the books? And Conan is not Arnold's "signature role". His signature role is clearly the Terminator. And why does he bash this movie for telling an origin if that's also what the first Conan did?

The sad thing about shitty remakes like this is that people who have not seen the originals will never give a damn about them. If someone is to make a remake it has to be done with love and respect, If all you care about is a cheap cash in on someone else's success it defiantly shows.

Why is Lemire still on here? She already has her show on TV and she writes reviews for a paper. Aside from that, she has a real pessimistic attitude that is too much considering Mankiewicz is already a negative individual. Plus she isn't as learned in film as she thinks. She can't decipher film styles to save her life and her "opinions" are always a reflection of the consensus not what she arrived by her own conclusion. She is a total hack.

This film cost $80 million to $90 million, so it is certainly not cheap. It might look cheap, but it cost a lot to make.

@eagles980 More. This film got hit with a shitty director, a terrible score, budget issues that led to many scenes that would've helped the pacing and continuity.
After watching Momoa in Game of Thrones I thought this would be the ultimate vehicle for him, but they obviously didn't go about it properly.
