  • I know that old recordings of CNY songs tend to be slow, but this one sounded especially mellow. Must be because this record came out just after the war, huh?

  • I find it for a long time.

  • Who is theman, Mr. You Lee?

  • Are you referring to Yao Min 姚敏? 姚莉 is Yao Lee.

  • Yao Min ( 姚敏1917-1967) was a great Chinese popular music songwriter and singer and brother of Yao Lee (姚莉).

  • Yao Ming (or Yao Min, 姚敏) was a Chinese Shidaiqu singer and composer. Yao was born in Shanghai in or around 1919. He had a sister Yao Lee (姚莉). He showed special talents in music. He could play Erhu, violin and piano at his early age before learn playing any musical instruments. Yao Min and Yao Lee followed their uncle to perform at some radio stations. They gained thunderous applause and a lot of praises. Zhou Xuan (周璇) and Yan Hua even introduced them to Pathe Records.

  • They are great.

  • Yes, it is .

Kung Hay Fat Choi. hope you have a great year of Tiger.

  • Thankg you.

    Whaytis meaning of "琥珀"?

    Where are you?

    You use simplified character?

Amber is fossilized tree resin (not sap) and has been appreciated for its colour and natural beauty. Good quality amber is used for the manufacture of ornamental objects and jewellery.

Mainland China and Singapore generally use simplified characters.

  • Where do you come from, Singapore or Mainland China?

    I am from HK.

  • Singapore

  • Oh, you are on line. I am happy that you can hear me immediately. I am on leave today.

You are on leave also. How about the chinese new Year of Singapore? is ait happy?

  • Yes. Just on web for a while. Same jubilation as HK !

  • @fhlew It is a year. Do you remember me/

I hope to have a girl-friend this year with me to the flower market. I do not have. I am not happty.

  • @JIANGTG me too, I was P).3 when first time to hear this song. I was 10 yrs. old. I hope to fly back to this time. I was un-happy at work.

  • @JIANGTG Thank You, today is "last day of Year of Tiger". I am at home, where are you? Flower market/

I will not go this year, I just eat dinner. No friend accompany me.

  • like Russian folk song which mixed with happiness and sorrow; this original lyrics, orchestration, interpretaion different from what usually in TV which with superficial smiling face saying "happy fxxking new years"stupidly, it descibed the deepest feeling of mixed of happiness and sorrow that we all experienced in our mortal body in this earth; what a aesthetics in context and form; good artpiece! introduced it to your friends when they get tired orf cliches of "happy new year stuffs"!

  • because when it was first sung, it was not a New Year Song, but rather a song to celebrate the end of WWII--end of the Japanese invasion.

When I was young, I didn't understand why the lyrics of this song bare so much heaviness--it talks about a dreadful, dark winter, and all the hardship, etc, which in fact does make the happiness of the New Year more intensely delightful, but it is strange for a happy new year song do that... until I read about the song's history.

  • Are you in France, how come you are a French but can read Chinese and understand the lyricss? or Are you a Chinese, ---just find it interesting, Would you tell me?

  • and btw, Chinese happy songs aren't actually like what you have pointed out. I guess this is a particular. What you mentioned like mixed with happiness and sorrow, I do see that a lot in Russian songs, but I don't recall much of that sort in Chinese music. Usually Chinese happy songs are just happy (and shallow, haha).

  • like russian

  • fhlew: Thank you very much for posting this timeless Lunar New Year song, a song that I grew up with. I never get tired of it.

May the Year of Ox be all that you hope for.

  • It sounds so refreshing! Thank you sooooo much for sharing this with us.

    Happy Lunar New Year!!!
