  • LOL RES5

  • Nice poetry!! very unusual

  • Is it just me or does any body else get a Jack Nicholson vibe comming from this?

  • Malthus0: Ha ha... I get that sometimes... but I think it is more my widows peak and balding head more than my voice. If you listen to the youtube poet IraqIsWhack -- HE really sounds like a cross between Jack Nicholson and Christian Slater.... Peace! :P

  • :o) Excellent!

  • I hope you're happy, feeding a million cases of arachnaphobia! But seriously, there's a tension to this piece that matches the speaker's measured pacing, which then adds up to the tedium many of us feel during bouts of melancholia and depression that amounts to Understanding.

As such, this is off-the-charts good.

Thanks always, sir, for your good work.

  • wow...you are a beautiful man for reciting these prose....just what I needed...of course I am mad for delaying seeing this...you rock player!

  • love it... i adore anne sexton

  • 9926arch: thank you. so do I. and she had a voice to DIE for--there is a great video on youtube where is interviewed at her house. anyway, thanks for the comment.

  • I get it and love it, scary though. 5+*

  • wow... that injured me

  • swivelingchairguy: Well, I hope you'll be okay. And please don't sue me for causing it! :p -- thanks very much for taking the time to comment!

  • I like this one very good stuff *****stars; )

  • Creative name choice - combining Sylvia and Sexton. Possibly your best work. Really, really good!

  • How can I describe this poem, it is nothing less than brilliant. It filled my imagination with dark brooding thoughts of creepy eight legged creatures and sad poetesses. I am glad Sylvia Sexton no longer resides with you; otherwise, after a bad day at the office, the temptation to embrace an arachnid might prove too great.

    A fine piece of work.

    Regards, Peter

  • very very very cool

ur bringing me back to the tube DRC

    THANKS

    i needed this one!

  • miss sexton doesn't sound much like a cuddler.....

  • Brilliant delivery and writing and I always like the care taken in setting up the shot - this one looked superb too :)

    5 stars!

I confess I was given shivers from the spider imagery - I am one of those ridiculous people who is irrationally un-fond of such creatures. I think it's all those legs..no maybe all those eyes, or no maybe the spinning of webbed traps to ensnare its prey - ugh, how I've survived in Australia of all places is beyond me, lol!

  • Awesome. It's always in the back of my mind too.

    Peace.

  • Depth, depth and more depth. If you ever needed the proof here it is in this poem and the others...

Objects on a light table throw no shadows, like ghosts!

  • brilliant brilliant brilliant. love it to pieces!!!

  • Now this is the darkness I was on about, yes yes, yes! U just made a lethal spider sexy. The alluring kiss of an arachnid suicide.

  • great ending!

  • Very well written and delivered as always. Well woven Web of Words!

  • This is terrific. I love it.

  • Terrific poem, David--I love the line:

"Sometimes, its hard to keep living

when in the back of my mind

there is always a way out..."

    (Ain't it the truth.)

    Roy

  • Dear David Thanks for the invite you are such a good poet and performer of poetry I always enjoy your videos. Poor sad Sylvia Plath alas how tragic that her son also committed suicide recently. I have videoed her beautiful talented daughter Freda Hughes performing poetry at the British library.

    5 Stars..

    Kind Regards

    Jim Clark

  • Man you have so much swag and your poems is always at it's best 5 stars

  • :-)

Did you see my shoutout the other day? You might like that channel.

  • I love it. Sylvia Plath is buried near to where I live. I'll take it and read it to her :)

    Lets Skype soon! :)

  • I like this, a lot. That's all I can say. 5*/fav

  • MsWriteNow: Thank you so much! But... why don't you skype me

    I'm out in the jungle

I'm hungry to hear you! :p

  • nice it has been a while since we have heard from you. Have you been talking to my wife?? sylvia sounds quite familiar for some reason.

  • AntaresInScorpius: No! I haven't been talking to your wife.... but... take my wife...

...Please!!! (rimshot!) - thank you thank

    you ladies and germs!

    thanx for the comment :P

  • Oh, I am incredibly envious of your talent. I forgot the amazing sound of your voice. XD Your delivery is really one of the best parts of your poetry.

  • man David, you are a dark one. I like that. I'm a dark one too. this is a fantastic poem that I will fave!!

    thank you for this work.

    5 spiders for you

    Paul

ps: you have a light table! I haven't seen one of those in quite some time. are you a graphic artist or photographer?

  • Ok. Thanks for share. I have nothing profound to say. Some of these videos are beyond my understanding. I think most people suffer from depression, and some people try in vain to find simple pleasures in life.

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

  • I like this a lot... nice play with Sexton and crucifixion.... Good job! 5+ stars...

  • Powerful poem! I found two in my house. The first one I was able to capture and released to my garden. Another day, the second one unfortunately triggered my reflexes by waking me while running across my bed. Splat! A goner! David, a word of warning: things started with a kiss can lead to sex. You know what they do to their mates afterward? Be fast David, if you kiss her, be fast my friend. But what a way to go!

  • I loveeeee this poem.

  • ninapoetry: Thanks a lot! Maybe your spider and my spider can do collab someday! :p

  • Darkly beautiful David. Surreally real. :)

  • This poem is just infectious--subtle, dark, and human.

What's with the light table? Are you in the cafeteria of the starship Enterprise? :P (that's a capitol "P" tongue in that emoticon)

  • Great! Love the images, love the dark metaphor. Always better for your poetry, thank you Mr Curtis.

  • another brilliant performance

  • you olways serve the subject matter so beautifully! the ending lines captured the feelings of a suicidal patient perfectly, this poen can only be written by some one who has dealt in that experiance (suicide hotline refference) 5*

I checked out sylvia plath, AND SHE IS A GODDES!!!!

I mean, god damn that women realy knows how to blow your mind! lol.

she realy demenstrates brilliantly what we were skyping about on life experiance.

I'll half to check out the sexton sisters later

  • You did it! cool.

    And long live Cowpox!

  • I find it hard to express my love of this poem without utilising a comicesque interjection like 'wow'. That ending is perfect, '--dangling.' If Emil Cioran wrote poems and had even more of a sense of humour than he did and was still alive he would write something like this. Five stars and favourite.

Now I am going to sub blechhh666 without delay. Long live Cowpox!

  • "miss sexton's skin is darker... than guilty pleasure"....

un, un, un, i dig you mr. curtis. i really really do.

yo, do you memorize ALL of these poems you do for us? if so, that's awesome! I've been practicing my new piece for the stage tomorrow for a week and I'm still nervous that I might forget the words..

  • MzSkribble: Thanks for the comment! And I hope your show goes well. Yeah, every video poem I've done is memorised. I find it helps with re-writing when one memorises.... Peace!!!

  • ahh yes! wicked temptation!! ^_^..very cool spoken words ....

oh by the way David, is that my lil coffin?..i've been looking for that thing all day!!=/

  • My up-all-night-and-still-awake-at-dawn brain did not allow me to fully appreciate this the first time around, beloved. Tis truly excellent. Delivery 5*. I'll massage your ego more re this anon! ;-)

    Pam x

  • That was great, if a little chilling! Makes me think I should write a paean to the railroad crossing. It would end with "kissing" a train!

    5/5 . . . of course!

  • well, that was a really wonderful poem, and i really like the way you recited it..peace..patrick

  • You've been making very good use of light, lately.

1 * for the poem though.

    Psyche !

5 ***** for the reference from Shir Ha Shirim/Song of Songs.Bllack IS beautiful

  • AuroraKismet: You are the only one that got that! I thought more people would. It just goes to show you are smart as well as cool! :P

  • Yes,I'm so smart I spelled"Black" as "Bllack". You're too kind.

    Dyslexia has been bad lately.....

  • I'm actually reading "The Bell Jar" right now. Fascinating book. Plath is one of my favorite poets.

  • Greatness as always. Dru

  • MessiahChaos: Thanks -- that means a lot coming from you.

  • Nice.

    Like Really Good.

    A true poet.

  • ozjthomas: Thanks a lot! Speaking of true poets--any ideas on how we can con WrittenInWord into posting again?

  • Absolutely sublime. Sadly I can only dream of delivery like Saint David ;-)

  • Nigelcf: Thank you for FINALLY granting me Sainthood! How long can I have it for? :p -- thanks for the comment and your delvery is great--what are ya talking about!

  • Sainthoods granted by Pope Nigel XXIII are for life, though my Popehood is extremely suspect sadly ;}

  • nah, a spider bite would take too long, I'm already going by slow rot as it is ... lol 5*

  • perhaps his idea of a twisted joke.

  • seethepatterns: Twisted jokes are the best ones! :p -- thanks for commenting and for the comment on my main page ;)

  • nice1

  • I guess a black widow kiss would do the trick.

  • Brilliant. I've always thought that, if you don't like the show, you can turn it off. I think it's a control issue. ;) Happiness is; holding the remote.

  • When truth dangles before you, the will to live is tested..lol - 5 stars

  • magnificent.

  • heatherlynblue: Thank you very much! :)
