I was looking on wikipedia but there was not very much on it about Joe Clark. And yeah he took hold of things. They all became like family. He got them to that point. They needed that kind of person to get the place back into shape, and become a school again. I LOVED this movie. I guess I have such passion for it because, well this was so real. And it's hard to stop talking about it. My dad was a Spanish teacher his whole life. He gave me passion for life. And that's what Joe Clark had. PASSION.

Actually Joe Clark removed cable TV from the juvenile detention facility, so the kids would have to focus on their schoolwork. A tough measure but necessary if ill-educated juveniles who can barely read are going to have any chance of catching up with their peers.

You should take the time to watch Freedom Writers again. You dismiss it's impact by saying "it was all right". The reality is it is a TRUE story and many of the students portrayed were the first in their family to graduate high school and go to college.

The real Joe Clark was a bit rougher than this. He was widely criticized for expelling all those kids, and they all wound up in Rahway Prison, but in some ways it was tough love.

Joe Clark later became head of a juvenile prison, and did much better. His first action was to remove all the TV's and pool tables. When a kid asked why, he said "you can't watch TV or play pool because you're in jail."

Yes, I get it...the movie is good. I heard the word "like" so many times! I cannot imagine having the trouble of stringing a sentence together. Morgan Freeman was interviewed in Germany by my husband's co-worker. My husband turned down the chance since he isn't interested in Hollywood films. Challenge: Read the book TRANCEformation of America by Cathy O'Brien and Mark Phillips. You can learn about them over youtube. The library should be able to get this book for you! She is a whistleblower!

Today, Paterson schools are still having an outcome situation with violence, school drop outs, and gang relation. However, the real Joe Clark used to teach in Newark (And I think he still does today, I've met him before), and he spoke that this movie about him was "purely bullshit". Guess he just didn't agree most of the movie, but most of it did happen.

well anyhow. I do love this movie as-well. Also one of my favorite inspirational school movies. Though the lean on me song is kinda corny I do like the Everybody is somebody and Time dont wait. I'm looking for those two songs but cannot seem to find them from this movie.

Lean on Me is much better than Freedom Writers. Lean on Me is hardcore, Freedom Writers is more about reaching out the students individually rather than the whole school
