  • Evonne's fluid play reminds me of Federer's. In this match, she said she played her best match of that year. She was inspired to play the greatest clay-courter in history, just as many of the guys are inspired to notch a win against Federer now (with his great GS record).

It was incredibly sultry and hot on court that day, and the rallies were very long. With Evonne's non-pattern play, it's no wonder how difficult it was for Chris to play her. Their matches were often beautiful. No walkabout...

  • @preciousjey Yes, they're still very much together! My Daughter attends her camps with their Daughter Kelly every year!

  • Who won the final?

  • I never get tired of watching Chrissie play after all these years. She constructed points better than anybody in the history of tennis. Chrissie deserves much more credit for being a complete player because she was never afraid to finish points off at the net and volleyed extremely well. While the women's game has evolved, not all the changes are for the better. Sharapova made 60 unforced errors in her lst round USO match! Modern players could learn a lot from watching Evert play.

  • It seems that beating Evonne took a lot of Chris than losing to her.

  • @thadxxx Well you shouldn't be surprised. Evonne was a great player, now if Chris was using graphite by this point, it would have been a biit different I am sure, but she still has the wood.

  • when did chris and john lloyd split? is evonne still married to roger cawley?

  • What gem of a match, must rate as one of the best

  • thanks for posting- what a great match at a time when Evonne was near retirement- she could still mix it with the best - if only she could have stayed injury free in the 82/83 years she could have done very well-

  • i was surprised that Evonne gave Chris so much trouble in this match. By 1982, Evonne was way past her prime. But, the history of their rivarly most have brought out the best in Evonne's game. I love all these posts.

  • @thadxxx I wasn't surprised. Evonne's always been a tough opponent for Chris.

  • @krtina455 I totally agree with you ! Now wouldn't that be a dream..... if they could...

  • What a match, thanks for the upload.

  • Wonderful... two of the true ladies of the game, and two of the classiest players ever !

Chris still plugging away with the wood racket.

  • I miss this kind of smart, friendly play. A lot of fun to watch. First-rate players: my favorites players of all time.

  • What a wonderful match, their games really bring the best out in each other.
