I think a better for this song would be "Dream Diary", Seeing as it plays when Madotsuki writes in her dream diary and all... Also, it's a sweet name and suits this sweet tune better. ^^
@goniochromism That's odd. I'm having the exact same problem. This tune was playing for me at first, but soon after playing the midi file from the folder in Windows Media Player, it stopped working in-game. Does anyone have any solutions?
@ReaperZono ahhh, i saw there was both an audio and midi version of this song. wonder why he uses the midi in the game? anyway it's probably that you need to configure your windows midi device. mine is set to midi out by default which would explain why i wouldn't hear it. on XP it's under sound in the control panel but on vista/7 i believe you have to download a separate "midi device picker" program in order to change it (no experience of this however.)
After traversing the disturbing dreamworld and painstakingly assembling all of the effects, as I finally went to save for the very last time, this song nearly brought tears to my eyes. I love Yume Nikki and Madotsuki is by far one of the most influential video game characters.
@flyingmonkeywarrior that's stupid to say. You can say Yume Nikki is influential, but Madotsuki is a viewer just like you and me. She does nothing (appart from suiciding).
@Peashant2142 I think she's influential because she guides you through all her dreams and never reacts. Personally, I think her hollowness is what makes her influential.
@AnimekerGirl She doesn't guide you... You just ride her. She never reacts because she has no role apart from being a viewer... What do you talk about hollowness? Sadness? She has no emotions, she's just a bunch of sprites for the main character without dialogs, without a side story. The strength of this game relies on the scenery of the dreams, not on the character, that's something many fans of Yume Nikki must learn.
@Peashant2142 What makes your post ironic is the fact that the entire game is based on the DREAMS OF the character. Though her sprite does not react, her emotions are plastered on every wall, every place, and everything else in the dream world. She IS the story. You don't need dialogue to show that.
In game mechanics, she does indeed exist only as a means of exploring the dream world. However, you're missing a good portion of the story if you only consider her in that aspect.
@IneedaYTaccount Maybe...but you can't definetly say she is "influential". Her dreams are just a way to create an inmersive game, but going as far as creating mad theories, or try to "understand" her and her... feelings? That's just stupid, even more when the game it's not even finished. Maybe half of the stuff is not even intended.
@Peashant2142 Well to me, Yume Nikki is immersive because of the possibilities of hidden meanings. If I just thought everything looked cool and surreal, I would find it a very boring game. It's all pop pop fizz fizz. Nothing substantial. No lore. True the developer might have just said the same thing and we're putting too much meaning into it, but considering he named the character Madotsuki, I think the developer put more thought into it thank you think. That's my interpretation.
@IneedaYTaccount Madotsuki means "windowed" it's like if she was called "sample", it's exaggerated to try to find any meaning. The game is like a chaotic canvas, with inmersive music and atmosphere... the meaning of each character is just pointless
@Peashant2142 I guess this is just where we're different. To me, the connection between windows and dreams is clear as day. You know the saying "A window to another world?" You would probably say the same for the works of PIcasso (and I do too). Ask a trade artist however and you'll get a different response. "There is order in this madness" is what I got.
@IneedaYTaccount It's not the same. You can argue with that artist about the mening and the symbology of his work, but you can't with YN. You can't ask Kikiyama wtf means that runover guy, nor there are books deeply analysing his work... Making theories won't solve this, the chances that what fans think and what the author meant are the same thing are so small. It's absurd.
Then again, you hit the nail, we, you and me, are different.
@Peashant2142 What you say is true, but you're missing my point. You actually already agreed with it. We may never truly understand the reason Kikiyama put those things in the game, but that does not make them pointless as you stated in your earlier post. Regardless if theorists are off the mark, there is an idea that Kikiyama is trying to get across to us.
@Peashant2142 (Cont.) If you're confused as to how you agreed with my point, you posted that "the chances that what fans think and what the author meant are the same thing are so small..." which means you believe that Kikiyama has a reason
@Peashant2142 (Repost) If you're confused as to how you agreed with my point, you posted that "the chances that what fans think and what the author meant are the same thing are so small..." which means you believe that Kikiyama put things in the game because he had a particular idea in mind. just pachelbel's canon, isn't it? still, nicely done.
(I notice "Working- please wait.." appears in the japanese game as well. Did kikiyama release his own english translation or was it the work of someone like aeon genesis?)
when i say the tune IS pachelbel's canon of course i don't mean the two are one and the same. i'm just saying that the two are so similar they may as well be the same thing.
(but it's not as if it really matters that much to you, surely?)
What can I use to make theses sounds?
Do you know a synthe in particular guys?

@ultimatedream42 This isn't really hard to play. Try the main part first.
Then the background. Use both your hands. E voila, you're able to play it.
I recommend listening to the Penumbra Overture Main Theme, it's a great piece of Video Game Piano Work.
Video Games have the best music in general, i think.

Does that necessarily make it "pachelbel's canon" just because of that chord progression?
PercussionistIvan 2 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
yes, it does. that's what pacelbel's canon is.
MNc99 2 years ago
it's just some simple logic.
you see,
1) pachelbel's canon adopted the chord progression.
2) this little piece in the video used the chord progression too.
--> but it does NOT mean that this piece IS pachelbel's canon.
and btw i don't think pachelbel's canon is something that you should put the word "just" before it
