Just listened to the new single. It's a little messy in its transitioning but the solo at the end was worth it. I haven't heard Hammet shred like that since the AJFA. This one won't be the greatest Metallica album ever (thats impossible) but it will kill St. Anger and the Load albums for sure.

bass players like jason are good only for live shows, to get the big sound. in the studio, you could get anyone in there to do his parts. cliff on the other hand, he was a god listen to puppets. the bass solo in orion, and ther start of damge inc. brilliant stuff. not all bass players are irrelevent, but you have to admit that jason was no cliff. everyone judges james for being harsh on jason. the man lost one of his best friends, and he was just venting his anger on the new guy.

Another Cliff Burton mark. Cliff was good but not as fantastic as everyone makes him out to be. All he did was hook a bass guitar up to a wah pedal, that's not hard to do and it covers up any mistakes he was making while he played. Rob is overall a much better player in style, speed and just in every way. And if you don't believe me then ask yourself why was Jason able to play Burton's bass lines perfectly?

Jason was able to play the old stuff because of using a pick, Cliff played with all 5 fingers on his left hand for strumming which is very difficult and unique! bass players from Les Claypool to Rob have all said that they have a hard time playing Cliffs stuff! A pic makes it easier to play the fast stuff. Now there's no doubt that Jason was great on stage but he does not compare to Cliff or Rob! being a drummer I can play Jason's stuff but I can't begin to play Cliff's (messing around on bass)
